Background: Although a fifth of the German population has a migration background, health research regarding this population is scarce. The few existing studies on migrant health show that migrants are faced with restrictions regarding health care due to communication problems, a lack of information and distinct health literacy. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most common tumor disease in Germany.

Background/aim: One of the major problems in breast cancer treatment is pharmacoresistance. Therefore, exploration of treatment alternatives is of clinical relevance. The present work focused on tumor cell-inhibiting effects of a combination of tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) and all trans retinoic acid (ATRA) in breast cancer cells.

Risk stratification of sentinel node-positive melanoma patients defines surgical management and adjuvant therapy treatment considerations.

Background: In light of the evolving landscape of adjuvant therapy in melanoma and the recently confirmed absent survival benefit of completion lymph node dissection (CLND), it becomes important to explore possible consequences of omitting CLND, and whether it is possible to adequately stratify positive sentinel node (SN) patients solely based on information retrieved from the melanoma up to the sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB).

Methods: A retrospective cohort from nine European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Melanoma Group centres was used. Patients were staged based on SLNB and CLND result according to the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) criteria and stratified by ulceration and SN tumour burden.

The decarboxylated and deiodinated thyroid hormone (TH) derivative, 3-iodothyronamine (3-TAM), is suggested to be involved in energy metabolism and thermoregulation. G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are known as the main targets for 3-TAM; however, transient receptor potential channels (TRPs) were also recently identified as new targets of 3-TAM. This article reviews the current knowledge of a putative novel role of 3-TAM in the modulation of TRPs.

Background: Nodal staging with sentinel node biopsy (SNB) and completion lymph node dissection (CLND) provides prognostic information to patients with melanoma and their physicians. Perceived stigma of mental illness: A comparison between two metropolitan cities in India.

Purpose: An increasing number of comparative studies are conducted on the stigmatization of persons with mental illness, in particular with regard to regional and diachronic variation. So far, there have been no studies comparing stigmatization of persons with mental illness in two different regions of India. Therefore, we examined the differences in perception of stigma attached to mental illnesses in Kolkata and Chennai, with regard to cultural and geographical differences to better understand the roots and origins of this issue.

Switching to nilotinib versus imatinib dose escalation in patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia in chronic phase with suboptimal response to imatinib (LASOR): a randomised, open-label trial.

Background: Optimal management of patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia in chronic phase with suboptimal cytogenetic response remains undetermined. This study aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of switching to nilotinib vs imatinib dose escalation for patients with suboptimal cytogenetic response on imatinib.

Methods: We did a phase 3, open-label, randomised trial in patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia in chronic phase with suboptimal cytogenetic response to imatinib according to the 2009 European LeukemiaNet criteria, in Latin America, Europe, and Asia (59 hospitals and care centres in 12 countries).

Current perspectives on recommendations for BRCA genetic testing in ovarian cancer patients.

Traditionally, BRCA genetic testing has been undertaken to identify patients and family members at future risk of developing cancer and patients have been referred for testing based on family history. However, the now recognised risk of ovarian cancer (OC) patients, even those with no known family history, harbouring a mutation in BRCA1/2, together with the first poly adenosine diphosphate ribose polymerase inhibitor (PARPi; olaparib [Lynparza]) being licenced for the treatment of BRCA-mutated OC, has led to reconsideration of referral criteria for OC patients. Provided here is a review of the existing data and guidelines in the European Union, relating to recommendations, as well as considerations, for the referral of OC patients for BRCA genetic testing.

Progressive idiopathic tractional corectopia with iris thinning.

A 2-month-old boy presented with an irregular left pupil. Over the course of 3 months, progressive pupil ovalization, corectopia, and ballooning of the thinned superior iris tissue caused obstruction of the visual axis. Because of concern for deprivational amblyopia, a sectoral pupilloplasty and sphincterotomies were performed, restoring pupil shape and clearing the visual axis.

Patients And Methods: Using a non-invasive vivomeasuring system (Biozoom®; Biozoom Services GmbH, Kassel, Germany) changes in the antioxidant status (as measured by relative carotenoid concentration) of the skin prior to and after intravenous administration of paclitaxel, docetaxel and 5-fluorouracil were investigated in 42 patients with cancer.

The first year of life is an important period for emergence of fear in humans. While animal models have revealed developmental changes in amygdala circuitry accompanying emerging fear, human neural systems involved in early fear development remain poorly understood. To increase understanding of the neural foundations of human fear, it is important to consider parallel cognitive development, which may modulate associations between typical development of early fear and subsequent risk for fear-related psychopathology.

Prostate cancer detection on transrectal ultrasonography-guided random biopsy despite negative real-time magnetic resonance imaging/ultrasonography fusion-guided targeted biopsy: reasons for targeted biopsy failure.

Objective: To examine the value of additional transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS)-guided random biopsy (RB) in patients with negative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/ultrasonography (US) fusion-guided targeted biopsy (TB) and to identify possible reasons for TB failure.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a subgroup analysis of 61 men with prostate cancer (PCa) detected by 10-core RB but with a negative TB, from a cohort of 408 men with suspicious multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) between January 2012 and January 2015. A consensus re-reading of mpMRI results (using Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System [PI-RADS] versions 1 and 2) for each suspicious lesion was performed, with the image reader blinded to the biopsy results, followed by an unblinded anatomical correlation of the lesion on mpMRI to the biopsy result.

Human memory T cells from the bone marrow are resting and maintain long-lasting systemic memory.

In the bone marrow, a population of memory T cells has been described that promotes efficient secondary immune responses and has been considered to be preactivated, owing to its expression of CD69 and CD25. Here we show that human bone marrow professional memory T cells are not activated but are resting in terms of proliferation, transcription, and mobility. They are in the G0 phase of the cell cycle, and their transcriptome is that of resting T cells.
