Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive condition with an unmet need for early diagnosis, better monitoring, and risk stratification. The receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) is activated in response to hypoxia and vascular injury, and is associated with inflammation, cell proliferation and migration in PAH. For the adult cohort, we recruited 120 patients with PAH, 83 with idiopathic PAH (IPAH) and 37 with connective tissue disease-associated PAH (CTD-PAH), and 48 controls, and determined potential plasma biomarkers by enzyme-linked immunoassay.

Determinants of elevated chemerin as a novel biomarker of immunometabolism: data from a large population-based cohort.

Objective: Chemerin is a novel inflammatory biomarker suggested to play a role in the development of metabolic disorders, providing new avenues for treatment and prevention. Little is known about the factors that predispose elevated chemerin concentrations. We therefore aimed to explore a range of lifestyle-associated, dietary, and metabolic factors as potential determinants of elevated chemerin concentrations in asymptomatic adults.

Three Novel Variants Causing Tufting Enteropathy in Three Families.

Tufting enteropathy (TE) is caused by recessive mutations, and is characterized by intractable diarrhea of congenital onset and disorganization of enterocytes. TE generally requires parenteral nutrition (PN) during childhood or intestinal bowel transplantation. We report three unrelated families with six children with TE.

Dysphagia in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Quantification of bulbar motor dysfunction.

Background: Dysphagia as a sequel and possible early sign of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is caused by progressive impaired bulbar motor function.

It was therefore the aim of this study to determine the influence of osteotomies around the knee on the coronal alignment of the ankle. We hypothesize that osteotomies around the knee for correction of genu varum or valgum lead to a change of the ankle orientation in the frontal plane by valgisation or varisation.

Characteristics and outcome of patients with low-/intermediate-risk acute promyelocytic leukemia treated with arsenic trioxide: an international collaborative study.

The aim of this study was to characterize a large series of 154 patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (median age, 53 years; range, 18-90 years) and evaluate real-life outcome after up-front treatment with arsenic trioxide and all-trans retinoic acid. All patients were included in the prospective NAPOLEON registry (NCT02192619) between 2013 and 2019. The acute promyelocytic leukemia was de novo in 91% (n=140) and therapy-related in 9% (n=14); 13% (n=20) of the patients were older than 70 years.

Background: The purpose of neonatal screening is the early detection of congenital metabolic and endocrine disorders that, if untreated, could lead to fatal crises or other long-term adverse sequelae. Fever range whole body hyperthermia for re-irradiation of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas: Final results of a prospective study.

Objectives: Fever-range whole body hyperthermia (FRWBH) has been shown to improve tumor oxygenation in vivo. A prospective pilot study addressed the question if addition of FRWBH to re-irradiation is feasible in recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) with unfavorable prognostic features.
