Informed consent is a cornerstone of ethical medical practice, particularly in obstetrics where procedures like labor induction carry significant risks and require clear patient understanding. Despite legal mandates for patient materials to be accessible, many consent forms remain too complex, resulting in patient confusion and dissatisfaction. This study explores the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) to simplify informed consent for labor induction with oxytocin, ensuring content is both medically accurate and comprehensible at an 8th-grade readability level.

Background: The visual performance and the optical quality of a segmental refractive extended depth-of-focus (EDoF) intraocular lens (IOL) were evaluated in a prospective, single-arm, single-center study.
Methods: A total of 20 patients (40 eyes) after bilateral implantation of the refractive segmental EDoF Acunex Vario AN6V were included. Assessment procedure: refraction outcome, monocular and binocular uncorrected (UCVA) and distance-corrected visual acuity (DCVA), defocus curve, contrast sensitivity (CS), higher-order aberrations (HOAs) and patient satisfaction were evaluated 1 and 3 months after surgery.

The 3.5 mm diameter or thicker Steinmann pins were commonly used in skeletal traction, which are so highly invasive that may result in severe complications such as pin tract infection and iatrogenic calcaneus fractures. Accordingly, Xirui Wu designed a new type of tension traction bow that can be assembled with 2.

Purpose: To assess utility, benefits, and risks of 4th-generation alumina-zirconia ceramic pairings in elective total hip arthroplasty (THA).
Methods: A comprehensive mixed-methods best-evidence synthesis using data from systematic reviews, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), prospective and retrospective cohort studies, as well as joint replacement registries, was conducted to estimate overall revision and survival rates, periprosthetic infection, bearing fractures, and noise phenomena with 4th-generation alumina-zirconia ceramic versus other tribological couplings in elective THA. The systematic review part across multiple databases was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023418076), and individual study data were extracted for statistical re-analysis.

Background: The economic crisis that began in 2008 has severely affected Southern (Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain) Western European (SWE) countries of Western Europe (WE) and may have affected ongoing efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis. This study was conducted to investigate the impact of the economic crisis on the burden of HBV and HCV disease.
Methods: Global Burden of Diseases 2019 data were used to analyse the rates of epidemiological metrics of HBV and HCV acute and chronic infections in SWE and WE.

Fracture of the lateral process of the talus (FLPT) is uncommon in clinical practice and can be easily missed or misdiagnosed. In recent years, as researchers from all over the world have further deepened their research on FLPT, there has been a breakthrough in the classification, and the methods and principles of clinical management have changed accordingly; however, there is still no standardized guideline for the diagnosis and management of FLPT, and there have been few relevant literature review articles related to this kind of fracture in the past at least 5 years. In this article, we review the clinical classification, classification-based therapeutic recommendations, and prognosis of FLPT, with the aim of providing a reference for the clinical diagnosis and management of this infrequent fracture.

Rationale: Maisonneuve fracture is a specific type of severe ankle injury. To our current knowledge, once a Maisonneuve fracture is diagnosed, the surgery is always recommended for fear of sequelae from inaccurate joint reconstruction. However, in this case, we treated a Maisonneuve fracture with a short leg cast, and the 41-month follow-up showed a favorable outcome with no post-traumatic osteoarthritis, chronic pain, and instability.

Background: The clinical appearance of acral melanoma is diverse and can cause diagnostic difficulties in individual cases.
Case Description: We present a clinical case of an 83-year-old patient with a melanoma in the heel area that was initially interpreted as a pressure ulcer, resulting in delayed and more complicated treatment.
Conclusions: Melanomas should be included in the differential diagnosis even in "typical" pressure ulcer areas.

Dysbiosis of oral microbiota is associated with the initiation and progression of periodontitis. The cause-and-effect relationship between genetics, periodontitis, and oral microbiome dysbiosis is poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate the power of the collaborative cross (CC) mice model to assess the effect of the genetic background on microbiome diversity shifts during periodontal infection and host suitability status.

Our environment is made of a myriad of stimuli present in combinations often patterned in predictable ways. For example, there is a strong association between where we are and the sounds we hear. Like many environmental patterns, sound-context associations are learned implicitly, in an unsupervised manner, and are highly informative and predictive of normality.

Selenium (Se) may help prevent breast cancer (BC) development. Owing to limited observational evidence, we investigated whether prediagnostic Se status and/or variants in the selenoprotein genes are associated with BC risk in a large European cohort. Se status was assessed by plasma measures of Se and its major circulating proteins, selenoprotein P (SELENOP) and glutathione peroxidase 3 (GPX3), in matched BC case-control pairs (2208 for SELENOP; 1785 for GPX3 and Se) nested within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC).
