SARS-CoV-2 infection has emerged as not only a pulmonary but also potentially multi-organ disease, which may cause long-term structural damage of different organ systems including the lung, heart, vasculature, brain, liver, kidney, or intestine. As a result, the current SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 pandemic will eventually yield substantially increased numbers of chronically diseased patients worldwide, particularly suffering from pulmonary fibrosis, post-myocarditis, chronic heart failure, or chronic kidney disease. Exercise recommendations for rehabilitation are complex in these patients and should follow current guidelines including standards for pre-exercise medical examinations and individually tailored exercise prescription.

Background: TNF-alpha inhibitory drugs are widely used with beneficial effect in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, such as juvenile idiopathic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Due to the complex immune regulatory function of TNF-alpha, induction of inflammation in several organs including the eye, skin, and gastrointestinal tract has been reported. This report describes the occurrence of intraocular inflammation after treatment with the TNF-alpha antagonist etanercept.

Purpose: To define the efficacy of surgical resection of ocular adnexal basal cell carcinoma and to analyse possible risk factors, we determined relapse rates on a yearly basis postintervention in a cohort of patients that were treated in our hospital under comparable conditions.
Methods: A total of 366 such cases that were admitted for treatment between 2002 and 2006 were followed prospectively once yearly and tumour size and localization, histological type, functional and cosmetical outcome and relapses were recorded. In cases when the primary resection margins were not free, further resections were performed until the resection margin was histologically assessed tumour free on the basis of paraffin-fixed tissue sections.

Aims: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of topically applied mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) for the prophylaxis of corneal graft rejection in an experimental keratoplasty model.
Methods: A total of 12 female Lewis rats received 3.5-mm MHC I/II-incompatible corneal grafts from DA donors.

Purpose: Transplant survival following penetrating keratoplasty is determined to a large extent by the course of endothelial cell density loss. Different influencing factors such as organ culture conditions, surgical trauma, exchange between donor and recipient cells, cell ageing and immune reactions can contribute to endothelial cell loss. The aim of this study was to determine the rate of endothelial cell loss in our patients and to detect dependencies on donor-and recipient-related factors.

Purpose: To present 5-year results of polyurethane stent implantation for treatment of postsaccal lacrimal duct stenoses.
Methods: Ninety-two consecutive patients admitted to our hospital for stent implantation between 1997 and 2001 were retrospectively analysed. The patients who were not re-treated in our clinic were asked by questionnaire about their satisfaction and complaints.

Clinic of Ophthalmology, Charité- University School of Medicine Berlin, Berlin, Germany.
Purpose: To present the first case of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in a Wegener's granulomatosis patient on systemic cyclosporine A (CsA) therapy.
Methods: A 41-year-old patient was treated with systemic CsA for c-ANCA positive Wegener's granulomatosis. Four weeks later he presented with blurred vision and a retinitis was diagnosed in the right eye.

Purpose: Understanding of the role of cytokines in uveitis may provide new clues to its treatment. Therefore, the purpose of our study was to evaluate systemic cytokine receptor expression in patients with noninfectious uveitis.
Method: Serum concentrations of soluble interleukin-2 receptor alpha (IL-2 s Ralpha) and soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor-1 (sTNF-R1) were measured in patients with intermediate uveitis (n = 26), posterior uveitis (n = 23) and healthy controls (n = 12) using ELISA.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of different intraocular lenses (IOLs) on lens epithelial cells (LECs) and on human capsular bags in vitro and to evaluate the transferability of this model to clinical situations.
Methods: Sham cataract surgery, including IOL-into-the-bag implantation, was performed on 38 donor eyes after removal of the cornea. The capsular bag including the IOL was removed, pinned on a culture dish, covered with medium, and incubated.
