Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) (previously called nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, NAFLD) is associated with cardiometabolic risk factors and chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, evidence is lacking regarding whether the severity of fibrosis is affected by these risk factors and diseases and to what degree. We aimed to determine the correlation between these factors and vibration-controlled transient elastography-determined liver stiffness measurements (LSMs) and controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) values in a sample of the US population.

Objective: Cholesteatoma is a hyperproliferative, pseudoneoplastic lesion of the middle ear characterized by aggressive growth and bone destruction. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α, also known as HIF1A) is a key transcription factor that enters the nucleus and upregulates many genes involved in cancer progression in the oxygen-free environment. This study is designed to explore the role and mechanism of HIF1A in the progression of cholesteatoma.

Objective: Although tirofiban and endovascular thrombectomy have been widely used in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients, the effectiveness of their combined application remains a subject of debate. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of tirofiban in direct thrombectomy for AIS with anterior circulation vessel occlusion.

Methods: A total of 204 patients undergoing direct thrombectomy between January 2020 and December 2021 for AIS with anterior circulation vessel occlusion from four hospitals were included in this study.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a heterogeneous cancer. Its treatment depends on its anatomical site and molecular features. Carcinomas of the rectosigmoid junction are frequent; however, specific data on these tumors are sparse, as they are frequently assigned to either the colon or rectum.

A Presurgical Unfavorable Prediction Scale of Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke.

Front Aging Neurosci

June 2022

Department of Neurology of Drum Tower Hospital, Medical School and the State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Nanjing University, Nanjing, China.

Objective: To develop a prognostic prediction model of endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) induced by large-vessel occlusion (LVO), this study applied machine learning classification model light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM) to construct a unique prediction model.

Methods: A total of 973 patients were enrolled, primary outcome was assessed with modified Rankin scale (mRS) at 90 days, and favorable outcome was defined using mRS 0-2 scores. Besides, LightGBM algorithm and logistic regression (LR) were used to construct a prediction model.

Gastrointestinal tract cancers have high incidence and mortality in China, but their molecular characteristics have not been fully investigated. We sequenced 432 tumor samples from the colorectum, stomach, pancreas, gallbladder, and biliary tract to investigate cancer-related mutations and detail the landscape of microsatellite instability (MSI), tumor mutation burden (TMB), and chromosomal instability (CIN). We observed the highest TMB in colorectal and gastric cancers and the lowest TMB in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs).

Impact of perlecan, a core component of basement membrane, on regeneration of cartilaginous tissues.

Acta Biomater

November 2021

Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering Laboratory, Department of Orthopaedics, West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV, United States; WVU Cancer Institute, Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV, United States. Electronic address:

As an indispensable component of the extracellular matrix, perlecan (Pln) plays an essential role in cartilaginous tissue function. Although there exist studies suggesting that Pln expressed by cartilaginous tissues is critical for chondrogenesis, few papers have discussed the potential impact Pln may have on cartilage regeneration. In this review, we delineate Pln structure, biomechanical properties, and interactive ligands-which together contribute to the effect Pln has on cartilaginous tissue development.
