Currently, intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration is believed to lead to local accumulation of lactic acid in the IVD, a decrease in pH, activation of the inflammatory pathway, and continued destruction of homeostasis of the IVD. To address these issues, the intelligent and accurate release of drugs is particularly important. In this study, acid-sensitive release methacrylated hyaluronic acid (HAMA) microspheres were constructed by using microfluidic technology, which can be used as a targeted drug delivery system for intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) through Schiff base chemical bonding on the surface of the microspheres to achieve intelligent drug release.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers have developed a copper composite antibacterial nanoparticle that triggers a cell death process called cuproptosis in aerobic bacteria, which thrive in high oxygen environments like the lungs.
  • * To enhance the effectiveness of this treatment, they incorporated manganese dioxide to reduce protective substances in bacteria and created a drug-delivery system that allows targeted release of copper ions directly to infected lung areas, minimizing systemic toxicity.

Hypertension is a common chronic disorder and a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II, causing vasoconstriction and raising blood pressure. Pharmacotherapy is the mainstay of traditional hypertension treatment, leading to various negative side effects.

Electronic address:

The regeneration of osteochondral defects is challenging due to the complex structure of the osteochondral unit. This study aimed to develop a biomimetic scaffold by loading growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) into poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles and incorporating them into polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffolds to promote synchronized osteochondral regeneration. The nanoparticles were successfully immobilized onto PCL scaffolds pre-modified with polydopamine (PDA) to enhance cell adhesion and proliferation.

Objective To investigate the effects of protein C receptor (PROCR) on the maturation and immune functions of mouse bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) induced by whole glucan particle (WGP). Methods The GSE2197 dataset was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database of the National Center of Biotechnology Information (NCBI). By analyzing the microarray data of this dataset, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified.

Article Synopsis
  • Pulmonary fibrosis is a severe lung disease that currently has no treatment apart from lung transplantation, and the study investigates the role of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) in combating this condition.
  • Researchers used a silica-induced mouse model and in vitro lung fibroblast cultures to assess the effects of the GLP-1R activator liraglutide on lung inflammation and fibrosis.
  • The findings indicate that liraglutide reduces lung fibrosis by inhibiting fibroblast activation and affecting key metabolic pathways, ultimately leading to decreased production of lactate and pro-fibrotic gene expression.

  • Tumor homing peptides (THPs) specifically target tumor cells, offering a promising method for cancer treatment and detection, but traditional detection methods are slow and costly.
  • To address these challenges, LLM4THP is introduced as a novel computational tool that leverages large language models (LLMs) to efficiently detect THPs using encoded peptide sequences and various sequence characteristics.
  • LLM4THP employs an ensemble learning strategy, combining multiple machine learning techniques for improved THP identification, and demonstrates superior performance metrics compared to current methods, with the source code available online.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists studied a protein called SLC38A7 to see how it affects stomach cancer cells and their ability to grow and spread.
  • They found that when SLC38A7 was more active in these cancer cells, the cells grew faster and were better at moving and invading other areas, meaning it helps cancer progress.
  • By figuring out how SLC38A7 works with other proteins in the body, they suggest it could be a useful target for new stomach cancer treatments.

Importance: Recurrence remains a challenge after ablation of outflow tract premature ventricular contractions (OT-PVCs). Although adding additional lesions next to the index effective ablation site is sometimes performed to reinforce the ablation, it remains uncertain whether this approach is effective.

Objective: To test the hypothesis that additional ablation lesions would reduce the recurrence rate compared with single-point ablation at the index effective site for the ablation of OT-PVCs.
