Background: To explore the efficacy of theta burst stimulation (TBS) on the negative symptoms in patients with chronic schizophrenia, and to investigate the alterations of local brain activity using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).
Methods: 100 patients with chronic schizophrenia were enrolled and divided into the real group (50 subjects) and sham group (50 subjects). The real group was given real stimulation of TBS for 4 weeks, and the sham group was sham-stimulated with the same site.

Prenatal stress exerts long-term impact on neurodevelopment in the offspring, with consequences such as increasing the offspring's risk of depression in adolescence and early adulthood. S-ketamine can produce rapid and robust antidepressant effects, but it is not clear yet whether and how S-ketamine alleviates depression in prenatally stressed offspring. The current study incestigated the preliminary anti-depression mechanism of S-ketamine in prenatally stressed offspring, particularly with regard to neuroplasticity.

Background: The n-back task is a widely used paradigm to assess working memory and is commonly applied in research on age-related cognitive decline. However, studies utilizing functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to explore this area are limited.
Objective: This study aims to investigate age-related differences in brain activation during the n-back task using fNIRS.

Background: To explore the risk factors of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among Chinese college students during the COVID-19 pandemic and the construction and validation of risk prediction models.
Methods: A total of 10,705 university students were selected for the study. The questionnaire included the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7 (GAD-7), Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9), PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), and self-designed questionnaire.

Background: Relative fat mass (RFM) is a novel indicator for measuring body fat. The relationship between RFM and depression was explored using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from 2005 to 2018.
Methods: A general statistical description of the population included in the study was performed, and logistic analyses were used to explore the association between body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), RFM and depression.

Objective: A thorough examination of the available approaches is crucial to comprehensively understand the variance among the alignment strategies employed in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). In this study, we assessed the functional outcomes during the perioperative and postoperative periods of TKA in patients using generic instruments with varus knee to compare the mechanical alignment (MA) and kinematic alignment (KA) procedures.
Methods: A total of 127 patients from the First Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical College who had undergone unilateral TKA between November 2019 and April 2021 were included.

Background: The left primary motor area (M1) stimulation has recently been revealed to promote post-stroke aphasia (PSA) recovery, of which a plausible mechanism might be the semantic and/or the mirror neuron system reorganization, but the direct evidence is still scarce. The aim of this study was to explore the functional connectivity (FC) alterations induced by the left M1 intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS), a new transcranial magnetic stimulation paradigm, in the semantic and mirror neuron systems of PSA patients.
Methods: Sixteen PSA patients accepted the left M1 iTBS and underwent a resting-state functional magnetic resonance image (fMRI) scanning before and immediately after the first session of iTBS, of which six underwent another fMRI scanning after twenty sessions of iTBS.

Objective: Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a non-invasive and promising tool to map the brain functional networks in stroke recovery. Our study mainly aimed to use fNIRS to detect the different patterns of resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) in subacute stroke patients with different degrees of upper extremity motor impairment defined by Fugl-Meyer motor assessment of upper extremity (FMA-UE). The second aim was to investigate the association between FMA-UE scores and fNIRS-RSFC among different regions of interest (ROIs) in stroke patients.

We sought to investigate age-related differences in stepping reactions to a sudden balance perturbation, focusing on muscle activity and cortical activation. A total of 18 older healthy adults (older group, OG) and 16 young healthy adults (young group, YG) were recruited into this study. A cable-pull instrument was used to induce a forward perturbation at the waist level among participants, who were required to take the right step to maintain their postural balance.

Background: Many patients undergoing PCI have been reported to suffer from psychological distress and negative emotions. Several lines of evidence have indicated that PCI patients with negative emotions are particularly vulnerable to myocardial reperfusion injury when they face psychological challenges. As proven by clinical trials and research, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has certain advantages in alleviating psychological symptoms in PCI patients.

Contralaterally controlled neuromuscular electrical stimulation (CCNMES) is an innovative therapy in stroke rehabilitation which has been verified in clinical studies. However, the underlying mechanism of CCNMES are yet to be comprehensively revealed. The main purpose of this study was to apply functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to compare CCNMES-related changes in functional connectivity (FC) within a cortical network after stroke with those induced by neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) when performing wrist extension with hemiplegic upper extremity.

Intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) is a high-efficiency transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) paradigm that has been applied to post-stroke aphasia (PSA). However, its efficacy mechanisms have not been clarified. This study aimed to explore the immediate effects of iTBS of the primary motor cortex (M1) of the affected hemisphere, on the functional activities and connectivity of the brains of PSA patients.

Methods: Patients with stroke were compared and correlated from overall and three periods (1-3 months, 4-6 months, and >6 months). Fugl-Meyer assessment for the upper extremity (FMA-UE) and action research and arm test (ARAT) were used to compare the UE motor status between patients with PSA and without PSA through a cross-sectional study among 435 patients. Then, the correlations between the evaluation scale scores of UE motor status and language function of patients with PSA were analyzed in various dimensions, and the language subfunction most closely related to UE motor function was analyzed by multiple linear regression analysis.

Background: Although numerous microRNAs (miRNAs) have been discovered to participate in the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD), they are still difficult to apply in clinical work. Thus, the identification of novel miRNAs and clarification of their clinical significance are importing for improving the diagnosis and treatment of AD. The purpose of this study was to analyze the expression of miR-128 and its diagnostic value in patients with AD.

During robot-aided motion rehabilitation training, inappropriate difficulty of the training task usually leads the subject becoming bored or frustrated; therefore, the difficulty of the training task has an important influence on the effectiveness of training. In this study, an adaptive task level strategy is proposed to intelligently serve the subject with a task of suitable difficulty. To make the training task attractive and continuously stimulate the patient's training enthusiasm, diverse training tasks based on grabbing game with visual feedback are developed.
