Department for Chronic and Non-communicable Disease Control and Prevention, Fujian Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Fuzhou350000, China.

To understand the burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its risk factors in Fujian Province during 1990-2019. Based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019, the incidence rate, mortality rate and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of CKD in Fujian from 1990 to 2019 were calculated. An age-period-cohort model was used to estimate the effects of age, period, and cohort on age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR), age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR), and age-standardized DALY rate (ASDR) of CKD.

J Med Case Rep

January 2025

Department of Pain, The Third Xiangya Hospital and Institute of Pain Medicine, Central South University, Changsha, China.

Background: Interventional therapy of trigeminal neuropathic pain has been well documented; however, intraoperative monitoring and management of pain hypersensitivity remains barely reported, which may pose a great challenge for pain physicians as well as anesthesiologists.

Case Presentation: A 77-year-old Han Chinese male, who suffered from severe craniofacial postherpetic neuralgia, underwent pulsed radiofrequency of trigeminal ganglion in the authors' department twice. The authors successfully placed a radiofrequency needle through the foramen ovale during the first procedure with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation (dexmedetomidine).

Nucleic Acid Aptamer-Based Sensors for Bacteria Detection: A Review.

Bioessays

January 2025

Department of Biology and Medicine ,college of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Central South University, Changsha, China.

Bacteria have a significant impact on human production and life, endangering human life and health, so rapid detection of infectious agents is essential to improve human health. Aptamers, which are pieces of oligonucleotides (DNA or RNA) have been applied to biosensors for bacteria detection due to their high affinity, selectivity, robust chemical stability, and their compatibility with various signal amplification and signal transduction mechanisms. In this review, we summarize the different bacterial aptamers selected in recent years using SELEX technology and discuss the differences in optical and electrochemical bacterial aptamer sensors.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a prevalent inflammatory vascular disease characterized by plaque formation, primarily composed of foam cells laden with lipids. Despite lipid-lowering therapies, effective plaque clearance remains challenging due to the overexpression of the CD47 molecule on apoptotic foam cells, inhibiting macrophage-mediated cellular efferocytosis and plaque resolution. Moreover, AS lesions are often associated with severe inflammation and oxidative stress, exacerbating disease progression.

BRD4-targeted photodegradation nanoplatform for light activatable melanoma therapy.

Biomaterials

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Advanced Medical Materials and Devices, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Biomedical Materials, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Tianjin, 300192, China. Electronic address:

The targeted protein degradation (TPD) strategy modulates tumor growth pathways by degrading proteins of interest (POIs) and has reshaped anti-tumor drug research and development. Recently, the emergence of photodegradation-targeting chimeras (PDTACs) and laser irradiation at specific sites enables precise spatiotemporal controllability of TPD. Capitalizing on the advances of PDTACs, herein, we report a nanoplatform for efficiently delivering PDTAC molecule for photodegradation of bromodomain-containing protein 4 (BRD4) proteins, the key activators of oncogenic transcription.

The process of new drug development is complex, whereas drug-disease association (DDA) prediction aims to identify new therapeutic uses for existing medications. However, existing graph contrastive learning approaches typically rely on single-view contrastive learning, which struggle to fully capture drug-disease relationships. Subsequently, we introduce a novel multi-view contrastive learning framework, named CDPMF-DDA, which enhances the model's ability to capture drug-disease associations by incorporating diverse information representations from different views.

Background: Achieving a balance between stable drug loading/delivery and on-demand drug activation/release at the target sites remains a significant challenge for nanomedicines. Carrier-free prodrug nanoassemblies, which rely on the design of prodrug molecules, offer a promising strategy to optimize both drug delivery efficiency and controlled drug release profiles.

Methods: A library of doxorubicin (DOX) prodrugs was created by linking DOX to fatty alcohols of varying chain lengths via a tumor-responsive disulfide bond.
