11C-Metomidate PET-CT versus adrenal vein sampling to subtype primary aldosteronism: a prospective clinical trial.

Objective: Adrenal vein sampling (AVS) is recommended to subtype primary aldosteronism, but it is technically challenging. We compared 11C-Metomidate-PET-computed tomography (PET-CT) and AVS for subtyping of primary aldosteronism.

Methods: Patients with confirmed primary aldosteronism underwent both AVS and 11C-Metomidate PET-CT (post-dexamethasone).

Primary Aldosteronism More Prevalent in Patients With Cardioembolic Stroke and Atrial Fibrillation.

Background: Primary aldosteronism (PA) is the most common cause of secondary hypertension, and patients are at an increased risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) and stroke. We assessed the prevalence of PA in patients with recent stroke.

Methods: We recruited 300 patients admitted to an acute stroke unit with diagnosis of cerebrovascular accident (haemorrhagic/ischaemic) or transient ischaemic attack.

Catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation in a low-volume center using contemporary technology.

Background: Catheter ablation is increasingly being performed worldwide for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, there are concerns of lower success rates and higher complications of AF ablations performed in low-volume centers. Thus, we sought to evaluate the safety and efficacy of AF catheter ablation in a low-volume center using contemporary technologies.

Effectiveness of an electronic inpatient medication record in reducing medication errors in Singapore.

This study examined the effectiveness of an inpatient electronic medication record system in reducing medication errors in Singaporean hospitals. This pre- and post-intervention study involving a control group was undertaken in two Singaporean acute care hospitals. In one hospital the inpatient electronic medication record system was implemented while in another hospital the paper-based medication record system was used.

Complications in stroke patients: a study carried out at the Rehabilitation Medicine Service, Changi General Hospital.

Aim: The aim of this study was to look at the type and frequencies of complications after an acute stroke in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. We also looked at the type of complications which required the transfer of patient care back to the primary referring physician.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective review of case notes of patients transferred to the rehabilitation team was conducted.

Prescribing psychoactive medications in nursing homes: current practice in Singapore.

Aim: To assess the prescribing practice, use and potential adverse effects of psychoactive medications in Singapore nursing homes.

Method: From a list of existing 24 voluntary welfare organisation (VWO) run nursing homes, four homes with the largest bed capacity were selected from the eastern zone of Singapore. When contacted, two homes agreed to participate in the study.
