In order to conduct surface monitoring of the three-dimensional spine morphology of the human body in daily life, a spine morphology measuring method using "single camera, multi-view" to construct stereo vision is proposed. The images of the back of the human body with landmarks of spinous process are captured from multiple angles by moving a single camera, and based on the "Zhang Zhengyou calibration method" and the triangulation principle of binocular stereo vision, the spatial conversion matrices corresponding to each other between all images and the 3D coordinates of the landmarks are calculated. Then the spine evaluation angle used to evaluate the spine morphology is further calculated.

The physical cues in the extracellular environment play important roles in cancer cell metastasis. However, how metastatic cancer cells respond to the diverse mechanical environments of metastatic sites is not fully understood. Here, substrates with different mechanical properties are prepared to simulate the extracellular mechanical environment of various human tissues.

Background: Previous studies have reported that the amplification of some genes, such as and (), may be related to hyperprogressive disease (HPD). Exploring somatic gene alterations might be an effective method to predict HPD. Herein we characterize the somatic alterations in a patient with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) who developed HPD to investigate the potential origins of HPD.

Photothermal Fenton Nanocatalysts for Synergetic Cancer Therapy in the Second Near-Infrared Window.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

July 2020

State Key Laboratory of High Performance Ceramics and Superfine Microstructure, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1295 Ding-Xi Road, Shanghai 200050, China.

Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) that utilizes endogenous hydrogen peroxide (HO) to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) to kill cancer cells has shown a promising strategy for malignant tumor treatment. Nevertheless, limited HO levels in the tumor microenvironment often compromise the therapeutic benefits of CDT, leading to cancer recurrence and metastasis. Herein, a second near-infrared (NIR-II) photothermal Fenton nanocatalyst (PFN) was developed for activatable magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided synergetic photothermal therapy (PTT) and CDT of pancreatic carcinoma.

Background: Consolidative allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is a controversial option for patients with relapsed/refractory acute lymphoblastic leukemia after chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy. We performed a multicenter retrospective study to assess whether patients can benefit from haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation after CAR-T therapy.

Methods: A total of 122 patients after CAR-T therapy were enrolled, including 67 patients without subsequent transplantation (non-transplant group) and 55 patients with subsequent haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (transplant group).

Objective: It remains unclear whether aggressive low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) management (<1.8 mmol/L) can slow the process of vein graft stenosis. This study aimed to explore the impact of baseline LDL-C levels on vein graft patency in patients on ticagrelor with or without aspirin 1 year after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).

Purpose: Standard adjuvant chemotherapy for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) includes a taxane and an anthracycline. Concomitant capecitabine may be beneficial, but robust data to support this are lacking. The efficacy and safety of the addition of capecitabine into the TNBC adjuvant treatment regimen was evaluated.

Severe cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cannot be adequately managed with mechanical ventilation alone. The role and outcome of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in the management of COVID-19 is currently unclear. Eight COVID-19 patients have received ECMO support in Shanghai with seven with venovenous (VV) ECMO support and one veno arterial (VA) ECMO during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Background: In China, no national survey has been conducted to evaluate physicians' attitudes and compliance with guidelines in the management of adult patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate physicians' awareness of the use of microbiological tests in the management of severe CAP (SCAP) and to investigate the availability of nonculture tests in China.

Methods: A nationwide electronic questionnaire survey was conducted among Chinese physicians between March and July 2018, which assessed their viewpoints concerning the issues in the management of SCAP.

To present the ligament effects on sacroiliac joint (SIJ) stability and human pelvis biomechanical characteristics in two different positions by using three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) models of pelvis. Based on the computed tomography (CT) data of human pelvis, three-dimensional FE models of human pelvis in sitting and standing positions were established, which include the bone (sacrum, ilium, and coccyx) and six ligaments (sacroiliac, sacrospinous, sacrotuberous, inguinal, superior pubic, and arcuate pubic ligaments). 600 N vertical load was applied at the upper surface of sacrum to analyze the stress and displacement distribution of pelvis and SIJ.

Deep pancreas segmentation with uncertain regions of shadowed sets.

Magn Reson Imaging

May 2020

Department of Radiology, Changhai Hospital of Shanghai, Second Military Medical University, Shanghai 200433, China.

Pancreas segmentation is a challenging task in medical image analysis especially for the patients with pancreatic cancer. First, the images often have poor contrast and blurred boundaries. Second, there exist large variations in gray scale, texture, location, shape and size among pancreas images.

Background: Ovarian cancer (OC) is the gynecologic malignancy with the highest mortality rate (70%), and it is urgent to find out a powerful prognostic marker for OC patients. LncRNAs are recently thought to be oncogenes in various cancers, and its expression levels are validated that can be inhibited by miRNAs. There are several studies indicating that sponging miRNAs will contribute to the tumorigenesis of cancers.

Background: Deep-brain stimulation targeting the subthalamic nucleus (STN) can be used to treat motor symptoms and dyskinesia in the advanced stages of Parkinson's disease (PD). High-frequency stimulation (HFS) of the STN can lead to consistent, long-term improvement of PD symptoms. However, the effects of HFS on the axial symptoms of PD, specifically freezing of gait, can be limited or cause further impairment.

Background: To investigate and compare the diagnostic performance in T staging for patients with esophagogastric junction cancer using high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR MRI), as compared with conventional MRI at 3 Tesla.

Methods: A total of 118 patients with pathologically confirmed esophagogastric junction cancer were included and underwent multiparameter HR MRI (Cohort 1, 62 patients) or conventional MRI (Cohort 2, 56 patients). T2-weighted, T1-weighted, diffusion-weighted and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images of each patient were evaluated by two radiologists who determined the preoperative T staging by consensus.

Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) plays an important role in the diagnosis of breast cancer as well as the evaluation of treatment effects. A novel technique named b-value map based on thresholded DWI images has been proposed and can achieve good contrast for demonstrating prostate lesions only by manipulating the window width and center of the images. Its application on the breast has not yet explored, so the aim of the study was to investigate the feasibility of b-value maps based on threshold DWI for detection of breast cancer.
