Chronic spinal cord compression is the result of mechanical pressure on the spinal cord, which in contrast to traumatic spinal cord injury, leads to slowly progressing nerve degeneration. These two types of spinal cord injuries may trigger similar mechanisms, including motoric nerve cell apoptosis and autophagy, however, depending on differences in the underlying injury severity, nerve reactions may predominantly involve the conservation of function or the initiation of functions for the removal of irreversibly damaged cells. p62 is a multidomain adapter protein, which is involved in apoptosis and cell survival as well as autophagy, and is a common component of protein aggregations in neurodegenerative diseases.

[Posterior partial trochanteric osteotomy for the treatment of the roof involved acetabular fractures].

Objective: To introduce a new trochanteric osteotomy,and evaluate the outcome of the procedure combined a posterior lateral approach in treating acetabular fractures which involving the roof.

Experimental study on sustained-release 5-Fluorouracil implantation in canine peritoneum and para-aortic abdominalis.

Objective: To observe local and systemic toxicity after sustained-release 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) implantation in canine peritoneum and para-aortic abdominalis and the changes of drug concentration in the local implanted tissue with time.

Methods: 300 mg sustained-release 5-Fu was implanted into canine peritoneum and para-aorta abdominalis. Samples were taken 3, 5, 7 and 10 days after implantation for assessment of changes and systemic reactions.

In this study, we used microarray analysis to investigate the biogenesis and progression of intervertebral disc degeneration. The gene expression profiles of 37 disc tissue samples obtained from patients with herniated discs and degenerative disc disease collected by the National Cancer Institute Cooperative Tissue Network were analyzed. Differentially expressed genes between more and less degenerated discs were identified by significant analysis of microarray.

However, it remains unclear if delayed treatment with a PTEN inhibitor improves long-term functional recovery after stroke. We addressed the issue in this study.

To investigate the pathogenesis of abnormal ossification of the hip ligament in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) by comparing gene expression profiles of the hip ligament in patients with AS to those in normal persons using DNA microarray technology, we studied 18 patients with AS (case group) who underwent total hip arthroplasty in our department from March 1, 2009 to January 31, 2010 and compared them with 6 patients with femoral neck fracture (control group) who underwent total hip replacement. Hip resurfacing arthroplasty for ankylosing spondylitis.

We compared the results of the metal-on-metal hip resurfacing with the ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty (THA) in 2 groups. The preoperative and postoperative ranges of motion (ROMs) were recorded. At the latest follow-up, both of the groups make satisfactory clinical and radiographic results.
