Objectives: Gut bacteria facilitate nutrient metabolism and generate small molecules that form part of the broader "metabolome". It is unclear whether these metabolites are disturbed in chronic pancreatitis (CP). This study aimed to evaluate the gut microbial-host cometabolites and their relationship in patients with CP.

Background: Preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) with CROSS regimen has been the recommended treatment for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The addition of programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitor to preoperative CRT may further improve oncologic results. Preoperative camrelizumab plus chemotherapy has been demonstrated as a promising treatment modality based on results of the phase II NICE study (ChiCTR1900026240).

Objective: We want to explore the changing law of circulating histones in the acute stage of urosepsis and to find more sensitive and specific biomarkers for diagnosing urosepsis as early as possible.
Methods: Twenty healthy male New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups ( = 5): the control group, sham group, model group of LPS 600 g/kg, and model group of LPS 1000 g/kg. Heart rate (HR), respiration rate (RR), rectal temperature (T), and mean arterial pressure (MAP) were examined at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 hours after operation.

Objective: To compare perioperative and long-term outcomes of robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE) and conventional minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) in the treatment for patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).
Summary Background Data: RAMIE has emerged as an alternative to traditional open or thoracoscopic approaches. Efficacy and safety of RAMIE and MIE in the surgical treatment for ESCC remains uncertain given the lack of high-level clinical evidence.

Background: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to exert crucial functions in regulating the progression of human cancers. However, the function and mechanism of long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 01089 (LINC01089) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have not been revealed.
Methods: The expression level of LINC01089, microRNA (miRNA, miR)-152-3p and phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted onc hromosome ten (PTEN) mRNA was detected by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR).

Objective: The topical antispasmodic agent l-menthol is commonly used for gastric peristalsis suppression during diagnostic upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of a single dose l-menthol solution in suppressing gastric peristalsis during upper GI endoscopy in Chinese patients.
Methods: In this phase III, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study (ClinicalTrials.

Articular cartilage has limited self-regenerative capacity and the therapeutic methods for cartilage defects are still dissatisfactory in clinic. Recent studies showed that exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells promoted chondrogenesis by delivering bioactive substances to the recipient cells, indicating exosomes might be a novel method for repairing cartilage defect. Herein, we investigated the role and mechanism of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells derived small extracellular vesicles (hUC-MSCs-sEVs) on cartilage regeneration.

Background: Bactericidal capacity, durable inhibition of biofilm formation, and a three-dimensional (3D) porous structure are the emphases of infected bone defect (IBD) treatment via local scaffold implantation strategy.
Purpose: In this study, silver nanoparticle (AgNP)-loaded nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA)@ reduced graphene oxide (RGO) 3D scaffolds (AHRG scaffolds) were designed to alleviate bone infection, inhibit biofilm formation, and promote bone repair through the synergistic effects of AgNPs, RGO, and nHA.
Materials And Methods: AHRGs were prepared using a one-step preparation method, to create a 3D porous scaffold to facilitate a uniform distribution of AgNPs and nHA.

Background: Proper inhaler technique is highly relevant to the effective management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The tiotropium bromide spray (TBS) (Spiriva Respimat) is a soft mist inhaler (SMI) preferred by patients to pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) and dry powder inhalers (DPIs) because of its convenience in use. However, the technique of using TBS inhaler in the real world is unclear.

Objective: To explore standardized relative thresholds of volume-based parameters on FDG PET/CT, and define the optimal prognosticator among the relative thresholds for patients with locally advanced pancreatic head cancer (LAPHC) treated by stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT).
Methods: Thirty-five patients with LAPHC were enrolled, and all underwent SBRT and baseline FDG PET/CT scan. Maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) was measured, and metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) were calculated under the relative (30%, 40%, and 50%) thresholds of SUVmax.

Background: Ghrelin (GHRL) is a polypeptide that can specifically bind to the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR). The expression of GHSR is significantly different in normal and prostate cancer (PC) tissues in humans. It is important to find an effective diagnostic method for the diagnosis and prognosis of invasive PC/neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC).

The pathophysiology of type II diabetes (T2D) in patients with normal body-mass index (BMI) remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the circulating CD4CXCR5 T cells in lean T2D patients. Compared with age-, gender-, and BMI-matched healthy controls, the lean T2D patients presented similar frequency and number of CD4CXCR5 T cells; however, the composition of CD4CXCR5 T subsets was altered.

Background: Currently, there are three main surgical approaches for resectable esophageal cancer: open transthoracic esophagectomy (OTE), conventional minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) and robot-assisted esophagectomy (RAE). Previous studies had demonstrated the better short-term outcomes in MIE or RAE when compared to OTE, respectively. However, to date, no prospective study was designed to compare these two minimally invasive approaches (MIE and RAE).

This study aimed to elucidate the effect of depression on the healing of acute wounds in rats. We hypothesized that depression would have negative effects on inflammation and wound healing and that antidepressant therapy would reverse these effects. This study included 100 rats randomly allocated into five groups: control group (CG), depression group (DG), pre-depression group (PDG), antidepressant group (AG), and pre-antidepressant group (PAG).

Blood glucose monitoring is an important part of diabetes management. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology has become an effective complement to conventional blood glucose monitoring methods and has been widely applied in clinical practice. The indications for its use, the accuracy of the generated data, the interpretation of the CGM results, and the application of the results must be standardized.
