Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has required restrictions of daily activities, which has been found to impact the lives of persons living with dementia (PLWDs) and their family caregivers, who have multiple care demands. The lack of relevant studies in Taiwan emphasized the need to explore the experiences of family caregivers of older PLWDs faced with the intensified restrictions to control the spread of COVID-19, and the impact of the availability of a smart-clothes home nursing program.
Methods: This qualitative study used semi-structured interviews with family caregivers of older PLWDs.

Background: Complications of percutaneous central venous catheters (PCVCs) include catheter-related blood stream infection (CRBSI), occlusion, leakage, and phlebitis, which may lead to sepsis or prolonged hospitalization. The primary objective of this randomized controlled trial was to determine the appropriate frequency of dressing for percutaneous central venous catheters in preventing CRBSI, every week regularly vs. non-regularly, in premature neonates in NICU.

Background: Percutaneous central venous catheters (PCVCs) are used commonly and widely in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Malposition of PCVCs may cause life-threatening complications and prolong hospitalization. In Taiwan, conventional chest-abdomen radiography (CXR) has been used widely and routinely for assessing tip location of PCVCs.

Objectives: For mortality prediction of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) in patients with cirrhosis, no direct comparisons have been made among the eight models, Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) score, model for end-stage liver disease (MELD), MELD-Na, integrated MELD (iMELD) score, MELD to sodium (MESO) index, modification of the MELD scoring system (Refit MELD), Refit MELD-Na and Albumin-Bilirubin (ALBI) score.
Materials And Methods: Between January 2005 and July 2017, 314 patients who met the criteria for liver cirrhosis with the first episode of SBP were enrolled in this retrospective study. Clinical and laboratory data were obtained at diagnosis.

Background And Aim: Hepatic decompensation is a severe on-treatment adverse event for chronic hepatitis C treated with paritaprevir/ritonavir/ombitasvir and dasabuvir (PrOD). Till now, few papers regarding on-treatment hepatic decompensation have been reported. The study aims to analyze the general feature and predictive factors of on-treatment hepatic decompensation in hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1b-infected patients with advanced fibrosis and compensated cirrhosis who receive treatment with PrOD.

Long-term data and information indicating whether minimally invasive surgery (MIS) approaches are safe and effective with total hip arthroplasty (THA) are lacking. Between 2004 and 2006, 75 patients with alcohol-related osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) who underwent 75 THAs with the two-incision approach were studied. The medical records, radiographic parameters, and functional outcomes were collected prospectively.

Background: The Russel-Taylor type 2B fractures compromised the trochanteric region and medial buttress of proximal femur. This fracture pattern limits the choice of implants and raises the risk of adverse outcomes. We aimed to (i) determine the outcome of Russel-Taylor type 2B fractures treated using reverse less invasive stabilization system plates (LISS-DF) and to (ii) learn what factors affected outcomes after osteosynthesis with reverse LISS plates.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, nonprotein-coding RNAs that negatively regulate their mRNA target genes in a sequence-specific manner. While their specific impact on biological processes and cellular functions remain largely unknown, dysregulated miRNAs have been implicated in numerous diseases, including cancers. Several large-scale profiling studies using tissue samples have revealed a consistent yet complex pattern of miRNA dysregulation in human cancer.

Objective: To report a patient presenting with Brown-Sequard syndrome due to cervical intradural disc herniation after spinal manipulation therapy.
Summary Of Background Data: Spinal manipulation therapy (SMT) is often used by people with neck pain or discomfort as an alternative therapy due to its claimed less invasiveness and comparable efficacy.

Background: Postoperative cholangitis is common after operation for biliary atresia. Empirical pulse therapy with glucocorticoid is effective in reversing some detrimental clinical manifestations, but the rationale for such a therapy still is not substantiated.
Methods: Adult male rats were divided into groups according to the treatment: sterile normal saline (NS) or Escherichia coli (EC, 1 mL containing 10(8) cells of ATCC 25922 strain), 1 mL, were infused into the proximal choledochostomy (PC) tube 2 weeks after ligation of the PC tube (bile duct ligation, BDL), then immediate tube-tube choledocho-choledochostomy (biliary drainage, BD) was constructed.
