Background: Tumor-derived exosomes are involved in tumor progression and immune invasion and might function as promising noninvasive approaches for clinical management. However, there are few reports on exosom-based markers for predicting the progression and adjuvant therapy response rate among patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

Methods: The signatures differentially expressed in exosomes from tumor and normal tissues from ccRCC patients were correspondingly deregulated in ccRCC tissues.

Chronic stress can adversely affect the female reproductive endocrine system, potentially leading to disorders and impairments in ovarian function. However, current research lacks comprehensive understanding regarding the biochemical characteristics and underlying mechanisms of ovarian damage induced by chronic stress. We established a stable chronic unpredictable stress (CUS)-induced diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) animal model.

Itaconate facilitates viral infection via alkylating GDI2 and retaining Rab GTPase on the membrane.

Signal Transduct Target Ther

December 2024

National Key Laboratory of Immunity and Inflammation, Naval Medical University, Shanghai, 200433, China.

Metabolic reprogramming of host cells plays critical roles during viral infection. Itaconate, a metabolite produced from cis-aconitate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA) by immune responsive gene 1 (IRG1), is involved in regulating innate immune response and pathogen infection. However, its involvement in viral infection and underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood.

Exogenous acetate attenuates inflammatory responses through HIF-1α-dependent glycolysis regulation in macrophage.

Cell Mol Life Sci

December 2024

Faculty of Anesthesiology, Changhai Hospital (First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University), Naval Medical University, Shanghai, 200433, China.

Cytokine storm is a hallmark for acute systemic inflammatory disease like sepsis. Intrinsic microbiome-derived short-chain fatty acid (SCFAs) like acetate modulates immune cell function and metabolism has been well studied. However, it remains poorly investigated about the effects and the underlying mechanism of exogenous acetate in acute inflammation like sepsis.

Chronic stress induces depression-like behavior in rats through affecting brain mitochondrial function and inflammation.

Psychoneuroendocrinology

December 2024

Department of Physiology, College of Basic Medical Sciences, Naval Medical University, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Chronic stress is involved in pathophysiology of depression, and causes some neurochemical alterations in brain. Both mitochondrial dysfunction and neuroinflammation are implicated in mediating the depression-like behavior. The objectives of present study were, at first, to confirm that chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) induces depression-like behavior and alters mitochondrial function and inflammatory responses within the brain, and then to explore the role of mitochondria in the development of this depression-like behavior.

Cuproptosis that utilizes copper ionophore to induce programmed cell death holds promise for enhancing the effectiveness of conventional anticancer therapies and triggering efficient adaptive immune responses. However, the non-tumor-specific release of Cu ions can induce cuproptosis and cause irreversible damage to normal tissues. To maximize the therapeutic effects of tumor-specific cuproptosis, this work reports for the first time the regulation of degradation behaviors of Cu-based nanomaterials using graphene quantum dots (GQDs) as a protection layer.

Background: Cervical canal stenosis is one of the important pathogenic factors of cervical spondylosis. The accuracy of the Pavlov ratio measurement is crucial for the diagnosis and treatment of cervical spinal stenosis. Manual measurement is influenced by observer variability, accompanied by its inefficiency, which affects clinical evaluation.

Article Synopsis
  • THBS1 is a secreted protein linked to cancer progression, with high levels found in pancreatic cancer (PC) correlating to poorer patient outcomes.
  • Functional experiments demonstrated that reducing THBS1 levels decreased PC cell growth and increased cell death, suggesting it promotes cancer cell survival and movement.
  • The study indicates that THBS1 influences cancer behavior primarily through the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway, and its suppression also slowed tumor growth in animal models.
