Oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) represents the most prevalent malignancy among head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs). Standard treatment modalities include surgical resection combined with radiation and chemotherapy. However, locoregional failure remains a critical issue affecting the prognosis of OSCC patients, largely due to tumor resistance against radiation or chemotherapy.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a significant contributor to cancer-related mortality, emphasizing the critical need for identifying biomarkers that can improve clinical management and patient outcomes. In this retrospective study, we analyzed tumor samples from 25 patients with metastatic CRC, categorized based on long-term (> 50 months) or short-term (< 10 months) survival. Employing the PanCancer Immune Profile Panel, encompassing 770 genes, in the discovery dataset, we identified 54 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) within the tumor microenvironment of metastatic CRC.

This study inspected whether calcitriol could exert a mineralization-inductive effect comparable to that of vitamin C in cultured human periodontium cells (hPDCs). The mRNA expression of the mineralization-related biomarkers core-binding factor subunit alpha-1 (Cbfa1), collagen 1 α1 (Col-I), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteopontin (OPN), bone sialoprotein (BSP), osteocalcin (OCN), vitamin D receptor (VDR), cementum protein 1 (CEMP-1), cementum attachment protein (CAP), interleukin 6 (IL-6), transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) was surveyed after incubation of hPDCs with vitamin C and calcitriol for 2 weeks. Translational expression information from ALP activity and CEMP-1 and CAP immunofluorescence assays was acquired from hPDCs at the second and third weeks.

Natural killer (NK) cells may play an important role in the pathogenesis of SLE. Interleukin(IL)-15, an NK-enhancing cytokine, is over-expressed in SLE patients. In the present study, we examined the effect of IL-15 on NK cytotoxicity of SLE patients, and the expression of various activating and inhibitory NK receptors on NK cells from SLE patients in relation to disease activity.

Prenatal dexamethasone (DEX) exposure and high-fat (HF) intake are linked to hypertension. We examined whether maternal melatonin therapy prevents programmed hypertension synergistically induced by prenatal DEX plus postnatal HF in adult offspring. We also examined whether DEX and melatonin causes renal programming using next-generation RNA sequencing (NGS) technology.

Early-life stress includes prenatal, postnatal, and adolescence stress. Early-life stress can affect the development of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, and cause cellular and molecular changes in the developing hippocampus that can result in neurobehavioral changes later in life. Epidemiological data implicate stress as a cause of seizures in both children and adults.
