Effect of Purified Resveratrol Butyrate Ester Monomers against Hypertension after Maternal High-Fructose Intake in Adult Offspring.

Background: Offspring hypertension arising from adverse maternal conditions can be mitigated through dietary nutritional supplementation, including resveratrol. Previously, we identified derivatives of resveratrol butyrate ester (RBE), specifically 3,4'-di-O-butanoylresveratrol (ED2) and 3-O-butanoylresveratrol (ED4), demonstrating their superior antioxidant capabilities compared to RBE itself. This study sought to assess the protective impact of maternal supplementation with ED2 or ED4 on offspring hypertension in a rat model subjected to a high-fructose (HF) diet during pregnancy and lactation.

Aim: Epilepsy with genetic etiology is high prevalence of DRE, which is reported responsive to ketogenic diet therapy (KDT). Our retrospective cohort study attempted to investigate the KD responsiveness between DRE with genetic and non-genetic etiology.

Method: Non-fasting gradual KD initiation protocol (GRAD-KD) and five-day diet program was implemented.

Purpose: This study enhances the efficiency of predicting complications in lung cancer patients receiving proton therapy by utilizing large language models (LLMs) and meta-analytical techniques for literature quality assessment.

Materials And Methods: We integrated systematic reviews with LLM evaluations, sourcing studies from Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus, managed via EndNote X20. Inclusion and exclusion criteria ensured literature relevance.

Comparing subjective quality of recovery between remimazolam- and propofol-based total intravenous anesthesia for surgical procedures: a meta-analysis.

Background: Remimazolam is a novel ultra-short-acting benzodiazepine that has been recently introduced as an alternative to propofol for general anesthesia. While both agents have been compared in terms of safety and efficacy, their relative effects on postoperative quality of recovery (QoR) remain unclear. Therefore, this meta-analysis aimed to compare the effects of remimazolam and propofol on subjective QoR in surgical patients who underwent general anesthesia.

Introduction: Stress-induced hyperglycemia (SIH) and malnutrition are common in trauma patients and are linked to worse outcomes. This study examined the influence of nutritional status, determined by the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), on the incidence of SIH in trauma patients.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on adult trauma patients admitted to a Level I trauma center from 1 January 2009 to December 31, 2021.

Objective: This study presents the development and validation of a nomogram aimed at predicting platinum-sensitivity and survival outcomes in women with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC).

Materials And Methods: Data from a retrospective cohort of women diagnosed with stage III/IV EOC between Jan 2011 and Dec 2021 treated at our institute were collected. Clinical and pathological characteristics were analyzed using logistic regression analysis to identify independent predictors of platinum-sensitivity.

Background: The stress index (SI), defined as the serum glucose to potassium ratio, has emerged as a potential prognostic indicator in some patient populations. This study aims to evaluate the predictive value of SI on the trauma patients sustained by all trauma causes.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 20,040 adult trauma patients admitted to a single trauma center from January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2022.

Chinese herbal medicine may reduce major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with dialysis hypotension: A taiwan nationwide cohort study.

Background: The association between Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) and the risk of developing major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with dialysis hypotension is unclear and has not yet been investigated. This study aimed to determine whether CMH intervention could reduce the risk of MACEs in patients with dialysis hypotension.

Methods: The study data from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database were analyzed to clarify this association.

Background: Progress has been observed in the pathophysiology of calcium homeostasis, localization studies, and intraoperative adjuncts in parathyroid surgery. The aim of this study is to gain a comprehensive perspective on the research landscape of parathyroid surgery over time.

Methods: A search of the Web of Science Core Collection was conducted to identify publications on parathyroid surgery from 1985 to 2024.

Pan-Asian adapted ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with biliary tract cancer.

The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Clinical Practice Guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with biliary tract cancer (BTC), published in late 2022 were adapted in December 2023, according to established standard methodology, to produce the Pan-Asian adapted (PAGA) ESMO consensus guidelines for the management of Asian patients with BTC. The adapted guidelines presented in this manuscript represent the consensus opinions reached by a panel of Asian experts in the treatment of patients with BTC representing the oncological societies of China (CSCO), Indonesia (ISHMO), India (ISMPO), Japan (JSMO), Korea (KSMO), Malaysia (MOS), the Philippines (PSMO), Singapore (SSO), Taiwan (TOS) and Thailand (TSCO), co-ordinated by ESMO and the Taiwan Oncology Society (TOS). The voting was based on scientific evidence and was independent of the current treatment practices, drug access restrictions and reimbursement decisions in the different regions of Asia.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is an irreversible, progressive disorder that profoundly impacts both motor and non-motor functions, thereby significantly diminishing the individual's quality of life. Dihydrosinularin (DHS), a natural bioactive molecule derived from soft corals, exhibits low cytotoxicity and anti-inflammatory properties. However, the therapeutic effects of DHS on neurotoxins and PD are currently unknown.

Background: Emergency medicine (EM) is a growing specialty both clinically and academically. Academic EM development can be measured by number of scientific publications. This study aimed to evaluate the academic international cooperation trend of Taiwan emergency departments (EDs) in the past two decades using social network analysis (SNA).

Review of pharmacogenetics of antiseizure medications: focusing on genetic variants of mechanistic targets.

Antiseizure medications (ASMs) play a central role in seizure management, however, unpredictability in the response to treatment persists, even among patients with similar seizure manifestations and clinical backgrounds. An objective biomarker capable of reliably predicting the response to ASMs would profoundly impact epilepsy treatment. Presently, clinicians rely on a trial-and-error approach when selecting ASMs, a time-consuming process that can result in delays in receiving alternative non-pharmacological therapies such as a ketogenetic diet, epilepsy surgery, and neuromodulation therapies.

Appetite hormones, neuropsychological function and methylphenidate use in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

Appetite hormones may play a significant role in neuronal excitability and synaptic plasticity and may also affect brain function development. This study aimed to explore the role of appetite hormones in attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), including aspects of pathophysiology, pharmacotherapy, and side effects. We recruited 119 patients with ADHD who were undergoing methylphenidate treatment (ADHD+MPH), 77 unmedicated ADHD patients (ADHD-MPH), and 87 healthy controls.

Real-World Study of Lanreotide Autogel in Routine Practice in Patients with Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors (GEP-NETs) in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Introduction: There is a lack of data on the efficacy, effectiveness, and safety of lanreotide autogel in patients with gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) of Chinese ethnicity. This noninterventional, retrospective study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of lanreotide autogel in patients of Chinese ethnicity with GEP-NETs in clinical practice.

Methods: Patients' charts were abstracted from five hospitals in Hong Kong and Taiwan (July-September 2021), where lanreotide autogel is approved for treating GEP-NETs.
