Objective: This cohort study identified patterns/classes of surrogates' assessment of their relative's quality of dying and death (QODD) and to evaluate their associations with family satisfaction with intensive care unit (ICU) care.
Methods: We identified QODD classes through latent class analysis of the frequency component of the QODD questionnaire and examined their differences in summary questions on the QODD and scores of the Family Satisfaction in the ICU questionnaire among 309 bereaved surrogates of ICU decedents.
Results: Four distinct classes (prevalence) were identified: high (41.

Background: Herpes zoster (HZ), which is caused by reactivation of the latent varicella zoster virus, was not listed as a side effect of any vaccines until the introduction of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine. This study used a nationwide population database to examine whether the HZ risk is increased after receiving the influenza vaccination.
Methods: This population-based retrospective self-controlled case series evaluated the association between influenza vaccine exposure and HZ risk.

Background: The titration pressure of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is important in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This study aimed to understand the difference between drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE)-guided CPAP titration and conventional sleep center (CSC) CPAP titration in patients with OSA.
Methods: In this randomized, controlled, and single-blind crossover trial, we compared the effects of 1-month CPAP treatment in patients with OSA with either DISE-guided CPAP titration or CSC CPAP titration.

Objective: May-Thurner syndrome (MTS) is an anatomic stenotic variation associated with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the left leg. The classical DVT treatment strategy is medical treatment without thrombus removal. This study was performed to assess the clinical outcomes of the combination of AngioJet™ rheolytic thrombectomy and stenting for treatment of MTS-related DVT.

Background: The extent of interstitial fibrosis in the kidney not only correlates with renal function at the time of biopsy but also predicts future renal outcome. However, its assessment by pathologists lacks good agreement. The aim of this study is to construct a machine learning-based model that enables automatic and reliable assessment of interstitial fibrosis in human kidney biopsies.

Acromegaly is a systemic disease that requires multidisciplinary treatment to achieve the best clinical outcome. This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of the endoscopic transsphenoidal approach (TSA) as the primary treatment for somatotroph adenomas and further investigate patients who had suboptimal surgical results. This retrospective study included 83 patients with somatotroph adenomas treated by TSA at our institution from 1999 to 2010.

Background/aim: Clinically, some cancer patients develop drug resistance after receiving a few courses of chemotherapy, or even worse, completely lack therapeutic response. Prediction of treatment response before administration is of value to oncologists. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of drug sensitivity tests for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) isolated from patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Background: A regimen of once-weekly rifapentine plus isoniazid for 3 months (3HP) is an effective treatment for subjects with latent tuberculosis infection; however, no reliable biomarker exists for predicting systemic adverse reactions (SARs) to 3HP treatment.
Methods: This prospective, multi-center study evaluated the plasma concentrations of soluble triggering receptors expressed on myeloid cells (sTREM)-1 and sTREM-2 in subjects undergoing 3HP treatment and examined the associations between these biomarkers and SARs.
Results: This study enrolled 80 consecutive subjects receiving 3HP treatment, 25 of whom had SARs and 55 of whom did not.

Various treatments are available for auricular keloids, but none has an absolute advantage. A practical and safe therapy to optimize the surgical outcome for auricular keloids is needed. We adopted a multimodal treatment of surgical enucleation, core fillet flap reconstruction, intraoperative corticosteroid injection, and immediate postoperative radiotherapy.

Background: Dengue virus (DENV) infection may be associated with increased risks of major adverse cardiovascular effect (MACE), but a large-scale study evaluating the association between DENV infection and MACEs is still lacking.
Methods And Findings: All laboratory confirmed dengue cases in Taiwan during 2009 and 2015 were included by CDC notifiable database. The self-controlled case-series design was used to evaluate the association between DENV infection and MACE (including acute myocardial infarction [AMI], heart failure and stroke).

Statement Of Problem: Data on the shrinkage of free gingival grafts (FGGs) vary. Most studies have analyzed grafts in nonmolar sites because of measurement limitations and have addressed the changes in grafts and keratinized mucosa width (KMW) only in the early healing phase.
Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective clinical study was to assess the dimensional changes of an FGG in the posterior regions and their influencing factors, with the aim of obtaining sufficient and stable KMW after restoration.

Background/aims: Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN) induced by cold medicine (CM) may result in severe ocular complications (SOCs). The purpose of this study was to investigate the human leucocyte antigen (HLA) polymorphism pattern in CM-induced patients with SJS/TEN developing SOCs.
Methods: All participants, including patients with SJS/TEN (n=33) and control patients (n=98), were enrolled through visits to the clinic from 2016 to 2017.

In this retrospective study, we aim to assess the safety and feasibility of adapting subtalar arthroereisis (SA) for type I osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) patients with symptomatic flatfoot. From December 2013 to January 2018, six type I OI patients (five girls and one boy, 12 feet) with symptomatic flexible flatfoot were treated with SA and the Vulpius procedure. All the patients were ambulatory and skeletally immature with failed conservative treatment and unsatisfactory life quality.

Left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) decreases global cerebral blood flow and predisposes to hypoperfusion. We evaluated the relationship between LVSD, as measured by LV ejection fraction (LVEF), and clinical outcomes in patients with anterior cerebral circulation LVO who underwent ET.

Background: Feedback is an effective pedagogical tool in clinical teaching and learning, but the actual perception by learners of clinical feedback is often described as unsatisfactory. Unlike assessment feedback or teaching sessions, which often happen within protected time and space, clinical feedback is influenced by numerous clinical factors. Little is known about clinical teachers' motivations to provide feedback in busy clinical settings.
