Introduction: Pelvic fractures often result in life-threatening bleeding and hemodynamic instability. Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) has emerged as a promising strategy for patients with severe pelvic fractures, facilitating subsequent hemostatic interventions. Transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) is a well-established procedure for managing pelvic fractures accompanied by hemorrhage.

Objective: To estimate the prevalence of organ damage (damage) and flare and to examine longitudinal associations between flares and subsequent damage accrual, in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
Methods: Patients enrolled in the Asia Pacific Lupus Collaboration cohort with ≥3 years of prospectively captured data were studied. Flares were assessed at routine visits, while damage ((Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics/American College of Rheumatology) Damage Index) was assessed annually.

Pseudogene-derived long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have become crucial regulators in cancer progression. Extensive research highlights the pivotal role of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) in promoting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression. As a result, targeting aberrant STAT3 activation presents a promising therapeutic strategy for HCC.

Study Objectives: Epiglottic collapse can obstruct the airway in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients in an anteroposterior (E-ap) or lateral direction (E-lat). The present study investigates the concept that lateral or concentric pharyngeal collapse patterns may remodel the epiglottis and predispose it to lateral collapse. To do so, we hypothesized that the presence of-any form of laterally directed pharyngeal collapse, e.

Importance: Mouth breathing is associated with increased airway resistance, pharyngeal collapsibility, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) severity. The common belief is that closing the mouth can mitigate the negative effects of mouth breathing during sleep. However, mouth breathing may serve as an essential route to bypassing obstruction along the nasal route (eg, the velopharynx).

Background: Reactivation of the latent varicella-zoster virus can cause herpes zoster (HZ) infection, and renal transplant recipients undergoing immunosuppressive therapy are particularly susceptible to this condition. This study aims to evaluate the potential increase in HZ incidence following influenza vaccination among this specific patient population.
Methods: This study was a population-based, retrospective, self-controlled case series.

Background: Antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) often leads to chronic kidney allograft damage and is a critical cause of allograft failure. The Banff classification, used to diagnose AMR, has become complex and challenging for clinicians. A Banff-based histologic chronicity index (CI) was recently proposed as a simplified prognostic indicator.

Background And Aim: Colonoscopy is a useful method for the diagnosis and management of colorectal diseases. Many computer-aided systems have been developed to assist clinicians in detecting colorectal lesions by analyzing colonoscopy images. However, fisheye-lens distortion and light reflection in colonoscopy images can substantially affect the clarity of these images and their utility in detecting polyps.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by persistent airflow limitations, occurring mainly in the small airways. Weakness in the respiratory muscles contributes to dyspnea and a decreased exercise capacity in COPD patients. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of home-based inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on small airway function and symptoms in COPD patients.

Interstitial fibrosis assessment by renal pathologists lacks good agreement, and we aimed to investigate its hidden properties and infer possible clinical impact. Fifty kidney biopsies were assessed by 9 renal pathologists and evaluated by intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and kappa statistics. Probabilities of pathologists' assessments that would deviate far from true values were derived from quadratic regression and multilayer perceptron nonlinear regression.

Importance: Annual administration of the influenza vaccine (fluVc) is currently the most effective method of preventing the influenza virus in older adults. However, half of adults older than 65 years remain unvaccinated in Taiwan, possibly because of concern about adverse events, such as Bell palsy (BP). Currently, studies on the association between fluVc and risk of BP are inconsistent.

Interstitial inflammation scoring is incorporated into the Banff Classification of Renal Allograft Pathology and is essential for the diagnosis of T-cell mediated rejection. However, its reproducibility, including inter-rater and intra-rater reliabilities, has not been carefully investigated. In this study, eight renal pathologists from different hospitals independently scored 45 kidney allograft biopsies with varying extents of interstitial inflammation.

The response rate among patients treated with I/T/DIN/GM-CSF in the initial cohort (n=17) was 53%; additional patients were enrolled to permit further evaluation of this chemoimmunotherapy regimen. Potential associations between immune-related biomarkers and clinical outcomes including response and survival were evaluated.
