Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS), characterized by central obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and hypertension, affects 20-25% of the global population. The creatinine-to-cystatin C ratio (CCR) is an indicator of skeletal muscle mass. While CCR may play a role in MetS development, sex differences in these associations are not fully understood.

Metformin modifies plasma microbial-derived extracellular vesicles in polycystic ovary syndrome with insulin resistance.

Introduction: This study investigated changes in plasma microbial-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome and insulin resistance (PCOS-IR) before and after metformin treatment, and aimed to identify bacterial taxa within EVs that were biologically and statistically significant for diagnosis and treatment.

Methods: The case-control study was conducted at Xiamen Chang Gung Hospital, Hua Qiao University. Plasma samples were collected from five PCOS-IR patients of childbearing age before and after 3 months of metformin treatment, and the samples were sequenced.

Empty nose syndrome (ENS) is a complex condition characterized by symptoms such as dyspnea, nasal discomfort, and emotional challenges. This study aimed to evaluate functional exercise capacity and perceived exertion in patients with ENS. Patients with ENS who presented with a range of severe symptoms were prospectively enrolled.

Background: Given the rising prevalence of depression among older adults and the associated increase in caregiving responsibilities, understanding factors influencing caregiver burden is crucial. We used Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the relationship between gut microbiota and DN using two different publicly available DN databases. The results were also summarized using five mainstream MR analysis methods.

Method: Exosomes were isolated from the serum of cholecystitis patients through centrifugation and identified and characterized using transmission electron microscopy and nano-flow cytometry. Microbiota analysis was performed using 16S rRNA sequencing.

Introduction: Health2Sync (H2S) is a digital health technology platform that provides coaching and titration support to patients with diabetes. The Mallya cap converts a conventional insulin pen into a smart connected device that can automatically synchronize dose values and associated timestamps (upon injection) to the H2S platform. This single-arm real-world study evaluated the effectiveness of insulin glargine 300 U/mL (Gla-300) combined with H2S and Mallya cap (Gla-300 + Cap + App program) on clinical outcomes among users with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Taiwan.

Dynamic RGD ligands derived from highly mobile cyclodextrins regulate spreading and proliferation of endothelial cells to promote vasculogenesis.

A thiolated RGD was incorporated into the threaded allyl-β-cyclodextrins (Allyl-β-CDs) of the polyrotaxane (PR) through a thiol-ene click reaction, resulting in the formation of dynamic RGD ligands on the PR surface (dRGD-PR). When maintaining consistent RGD density and other physical properties, endothelial cells (ECs) cultured on dRGD-PR exhibited significantly increased cell proliferation and a larger cell spreading area compared to those on the non-dynamic RGD (nRGD-PCL). Furthermore, ECs on dRGD-PR demonstrated elevated expression levels of FAK, p-FAK, and p-AKT, along with a larger population of cells in the G2/M stage during cell cycle analysis, in contrast to cells on nRGD-PCL.

This meta-analysis aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of the soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 to placental growth factor ratio in distinguishing cases with preeclampsia in twin pregnancies from healthy controls.
