The association between blood metals and cardiovascular diseases: findings from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011-2020.

Objectives: Previous studies have examined the relationship between cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and blood metal levels. However, fewer studies have investigated the role of the combinations of blood metals on CVDs. In the current study, our aim is to explore the roles of specific blood metals and further develop a model to differentiate between healthy participants and CVD patients using database from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

Immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced severe epidermal necrolysis mediated by macrophage-derived CXCL10 and abated by TNF blockade.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) represent new anticancer agents and have been used worldwide. However, ICI can potentially induce life-threatening severe cutaneous adverse reaction (SCAR), such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN), hindering continuous ICI therapy. We examine 6 cohorts including 25 ICI-induced SJS/TEN patients and conduct single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis, which shows overexpression of macrophage-derived CXCL10 that recruits CXCR3 cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) in blister cells from ICI-SJS/TEN skin lesions.

Inhibition of HIF-1α ameliorates pulmonary fibrosis by suppressing M2 macrophage polarization through PRMT1/STAT6 signals.

Objective: Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a chronic, progressive, and irreversible lung interstitial disease of unknown etiology with a fatal outcome. M2 macrophages have been recognized to play a significant role in PF pathogenesis. The role of protein hypoxia-inducible factor 1-α (HIF-1α) in M2 macrophage polarization in PF is largely unknown.

Generalized pustular psoriasis: immunological mechanisms, genetics, and emerging therapeutics.

Generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) is a rare human autoinflammatory disorder with life-threatening systemic effects. Keratinocyte-derived interleukin (IL)-36 signaling has been identified as a key mediator of immune response in the skin of affected individuals. Recognition of various mutations along the IL-36 axis and the downstream nuclear transcription factor κB (NF-κB) signaling have established GPP as genetically, immunologically, and histopathologically distinct and amenable to immunomodulation, which is epitomized by the recent success of IL-36 antagonism.

Superficial Serrated Adenoma: A Rare Case of Sigmoid Polyp With Malignant Potential.

We present the case of a 68-year-old woman who underwent complete endoscopic resection of a superficial serrated adenoma (SuSA). Due to its rarity and limited case reports, SuSA is often misdiagnosed as a hyperplastic lesion without malignant potential, leading to missed diagnoses. A polypoid lesion was identified in the sigmoid colon during the initial endoscopic evaluation, where it was initially classified as a sessile serrated lesion (SSL).

Post-irradiation Sinus Mucosa Disease in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Patients Treated With Proton Therapy.

Objective: Post-irradiation sinonasal mucosa disease (SMD) is observed in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated with radiotherapy (RT), leading to a detrimental impact on quality of life. This study aimed to assess the incidence, severity, and regression of the post-irradiation SMD among patients with NPC treated with proton therapy.

Methods: NPC patients treated with proton therapy were retrospectively enrolled.

Introduction: Both cellular and humoral responses are important for vaccine protection, but recommendations on immunosuppressants in dermatology are largely based on pre-pandemic experiences. This study aimed to investigate the impacts of immunosuppressants on humoral and cellular immunogenicity to COVID-19 vaccinations in pemphigus patients.

Methods: SARS-CoV-2-naïve pemphigus patients and age-, and sex-matched healthy controls were recruited from multiple tertiary medical centers during 2021-2023.

Despite gut microbiota-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) serving as pivotal mediators in bacteria-host cell interactions, their potential role in modulating skin inflammation remains poorly understood. Here, we developed strategies for mass production of Parabacteroides goldsteinii-derived outer membrane vesicles (Pg OMVs), commonly known as EVs. We found that orally administered Pg OMVs can reach the colon, traverse the intestinal barrier, and circulate to the inflamed skin of psoriasis-like mice, resulting in reduced epidermal hyperplasia, suppressed infiltration of inflammatory cells in the skin lesions, and effective amelioration of both skin and systemic inflammation.

Background: Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) play a pivotal role in immunosuppression and tumor progression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
