January 2025

Department of Neurology, Chang'An Hospital, Economic and Technological Development District, Xi'an, China.

The effect of ferroptosis-related long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in predicting immunotherapy response to glioblastoma (GBM) remains obscure. This study established a 11-lncRNAs prognostic signature. Differential gene expression analysis, univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression algorithm were used to identify prognostic ferroptosis-related genes and establish a nomogram model of risk score.

New insights into SUMOylation and NEDDylation in fibrosis.

Northwest University Chang An Hospital, Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine, Northwest University, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China.

Fibrosis is the outcome of any abnormal tissue repair process that results in normal tissue replacement with scar tissue, leading to persistent tissue damage and cellular injury. During the process of fibrosis, many cytokines and chemokines are involved, and their activities are controlled by post-translational modifications, especially SUMOylation and NEDDylation. Both these modifications entail a three-step process of activation, conjugation, and ligation that involves three kinds of enzymes, namely, E1 activating, E2 conjugating, and E3 ligase enzymes.

Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) and schizophrenia (SCH) are common and severe mental disorders that are mainly diagnosed depending on the subjective identification by psychiatrists. Finding potential objective biomarkers that can distinguish these two diseases is still meaningful.

Methods: In the present study, we investigate the differences in plasma inflammatory cytokines and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) among patients with MDD (n = 24) and SCH (n = 24), and gender- and age-matched healthy controls (HC, n = 27) and identify potential plasma biomarkers.

Article Synopsis
  • Bilateral repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (B-rTMS) is being studied for its effectiveness in treating major depressive disorder (MDD) when combined with antidepressants, but research on its impact on plasma fatty acids is limited.
  • A study involving 27 adults with MDD and 27 healthy controls measured plasma fatty acid levels at the start of treatment and after 2 weeks, finding low levels of certain short-chain fatty acids in the MDD groups that correlated with depression severity.
  • The results showed that the MDD-2w group had higher levels of medium-and long-chain fatty acids compared to healthy controls, and developed effective panels for differentiating between MDD and healthy individuals, suggesting a strong link between plasma fatty

Objective: The objective of this study is to elucidate the influence of MCU on the clinical pathological features of GC patients, to investigate the function and mechanism of the mitochondrial calcium uptake transporter MCU in the initiation and progression of GC, and to explore its impact on the metabolic pathways and biosynthesis of mitochondria. The ultimate goal is to identify novel targets and strategies for the clinical management of GC patients.

Methods: Tumor and adjacent tissue specimens were obtained from 205 patients with gastric cancer, and immunohistochemical tests were performed to assess the expression of MCU and its correlation with clinical pathological characteristics and prognosis.

Background: To compare glycemic control in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) whose blood glucose levels were inadequately controlled with oral antidiabetic drugs after beinaglutide alone or combined with insulin glargine (IGlar).

Methods: In this 16-week multicenter, randomized clinical trial, 68 participants randomly received beinaglutide or IGlar for 8 weeks, then the two drugs in combination for 8 weeks. The primary outcomes were the proportion of individuals achieving their glycemic target and the change in glucose variability as measured with a continuous glucose monitoring system from baseline to 8 and 16 weeks.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has been widely used in treating schizophrenia (SCH). However, the effects of the low frequency of rTMS combined with antipsychotics on the gut microbiome in chronic SCH have been poorly investigated. In the present study, psychiatric symptoms were assessed and the stool samples obtained from 33 adult patients with chronic SCH (at baselinephase), 27 after 2 weeks of treatment (rTMS combined with risperidone, SCH-2W), and 37 healthy controls (HC) were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing.

State Key Laboratory of Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering, School of Life Sciences, Hubei University, Wuhan 430062, Hubei, China.

The rapid screening of tumor markers is a challenging task for early diagnosis of cancer. This study aims to use highly sensitive chemiluminescent protein microarray technology to efficiently screen a variety of low abundance tumor related markers. A new material, termed integrated polydimethylsiloxane modified silica gel (iPDMS), was obtained by adding a surface polymerization initiator with olefin end to the conventional polydimethylsiloxane, and fixing into the three-dimensional structure of polydimethylsiloxane by thermal crosslinking through silicon hydrogen bonding.
