Background The Hp (haptoglobin)2-2 phenotype (~40% of people) is associated with dysfunctional high-density lipoprotein (HDL) that is heavily oxidized in hyperglycemia, which may explain why raising HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) does not reliably prevent coronary artery disease (CAD) in diabetes. Methods and Results In this observational study using longitudinal data from the ACCORD (Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes) lipid trial, time-varying (achieved) HDL-C updated at 4, 8, and 12 months, and annually thereafter over a mean of 4.7 years, was analyzed in relation to risk of CAD and secondary outcomes using Cox proportional hazards regression with time-varying covariables among participants with (n=1781) and without (n=3191) the Hp2-2 phenotype.

However, much less is known about the interplay between environmental and genetic risks relevant to ADHD-a better understanding of which could inform both mechanistic models and clinical prediction algorithms.
Methods: Two independent data sets, the population-based Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study (ABCD) ( = 11,876) and the case-control Oregon-ADHD-1000 ( = 1449), were used to examine additive (G + E) and interactive (GxE) effects of selected polygenic risk scores (PRS) and environmental factors in a cross-sectional design.
Background Air pollution has been recognized as an untraditional risk factor for myocardial infarction (MI). However, the MI risk attributable to long-term exposure to fine particulate matter ≤2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter (PM) is unclear, especially in younger populations, and few studies have represented the general population or had power to examine comorbidities.

Methods and Results We developed and externally validated a checklist risk score to predict in-hospital mortality among adults admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit with Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions Shock Stage C or greater cardiogenic shock using 2 real-world data sets and Risk-Calibrated Super-sparse Linear Integer Modeling (RiskSLIM). We compared this model to those developed using conventional penalized logistic regression and published cardiogenic shock and intensive care unit mortality prediction models.

Background: PM exposure has been associated with intima-media thickness (cIMT) increase. However, very few studies distinguished between left and right cIMT in relation to PM exposure.
Aim: To evaluate associations between chronic exposure to PM and cIMT at bilateral, left, and right in adults from Mexico City.
Introduction: We compared the ranking of Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD) among the leading causes of death (LCODs) between those according to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) and the World Health Organization (WHO) lists by sex.
Method: The number of deaths in each LCOD category was obtained from CDC WONDER.
Results: According to the WHO list, ADRD was the second LCOD from 2005 to 2013, the first from 2014 to 2020, and the third in 2021, respectively, for women and was the second in 2018 and 2019, the third in 2020, and the fourth in 2021, respectively, for men.

Stroke is the leading cause of disability worldwide, the second most common cause of dementia and the third leading cause of death. Though the etiology of stroke has been explored extensively, there remains open questions in the scientific and clinical study of stroke. Traditional imaging techniques, such as magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography, have been applied extensively and remain mainstays in clinical practice.

Background The evidence is equivocal on the association between meat consumption and ischemic heart disease (IHD) risk. To what extent the variation of individuals' metabolic responses to the same diet may account for this association is not fully understood. We aim to identify metabolomic signatures characterizing consumption of unprocessed red meat and processed meat and whether such signatures are associated with IHD risk.
