This study investigated the impact of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) on dietary function in patients who underwent pharyngoesophageal defect reconstruction using a free jejunal flap. A retrospective chart review of 36 patients who underwent circumferential pharyngoesophageal defect reconstruction using a free jejunal flap was performed. The European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer head and neck cancer module questionnaire was used.

Several studies have shown an association between sarcopenia and clinical outcomes in patients with Crohn's disease (CD). However, studies have shown different results, and the association between prognosis and wasting conditions in pediatric patients with CD is uncertain. In this study, we evaluated the clinical significance of wasting in pediatric CD patients.

Chronic hand ischemia causes cold intolerance, intractable pain, and digital ulceration. If ischemic symptoms persist despite pharmacologic treatments, surgical interventions should be considered. This retrospective study evaluated the long-term results after ulnar and radial reconstruction using an interpositional deep inferior epigastric artery (DIEA) graft combined with periarterial sympathectomy.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of coronary artery occlusion (CAO) and myocardial perfusion defect (MPD) identified on non-gated enhanced chest CT in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We retrospectively assessed 99 patients with AMI (group 1, = 33) and without AMI (group 2, = 66) who underwent non-gated chest CT. We analyzed the presence of MPD and CAO on non-gated chest CT.

Pluripotent stem cell-derived mesenchymal progenitor cells (PSC-MPCs) are primarily derived through two main methods: three-dimensional (3D) embryoid body-platform (EB formation) and the 2D direct differentiation method. We recently established somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT)-PSC lines and showed their stemness. In the present study, we produced SCNT-PSC-MPCs using a novel direct differentiation method, and the characteristics, gene expression, and genetic stability of these MPCs were compared with those derived through EB formation.

Purpose: To determine whether subtherapeutic anticoagulation regimens are noninferior to therapeutic anticoagulation regimens following stent placement for nonthrombotic lower extremity venous disease.
Materials And Methods: Fifty-one consecutive patients (88% women; mean age, 44 years) who underwent stent placement for nonthrombotic lower extremity venous disease between 2002 and 2016 were retrospectively identified. The patients were divided into 2 cohorts: those who received prophylactic enoxaparin or no anticoagulation (subtherapeutic) after the procedure and those who received therapeutic doses of anticoagulation with enoxaparin, warfarin, and/or rivaroxaban (therapeutic) after the procedure.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of patent with ductus arteriosus (PDA) based on the availability of pretest information on routine chest CT with 3 mm slice-thickness. We retrospectively evaluated CT of 64 patients with PDA. The enrolled patients were categorized as group 1 (presence of pretest information) and 2 (absence of pretest information, silent PDA).

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided tissue acquisition of pancreatic solid tumor requires a strict recommendation for its proper use in clinical practice because of its technical difficulty and invasiveness. The Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy appointed a Task Force to draft clinical practice guidelines for EUS-guided tissue acquisition of pancreatic solid tumor. The strength of recommendation and the level of evidence for each statement were graded according to the Minds Handbook for Clinical Practice Guideline Development 2014.

Endoscopic ultrasonography-guided intervention has gradually become a standard treatment for peripancreatic fluid collections (PFCs). However, it is difficult to popularize the procedure in Korea because of restrictions on insurance claims regarding the use of endoscopic accessories, as well as the lack of standardized Korean clinical practice guidelines. The Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (KSGE) appointed a Task Force to develope medical guidelines by referring to the manual for clinical practice guidelines development prepared by the National Evidence-Based Healthcare Collaborating Agency.

Antithrombotic agents, including antiplatelet agents and anticoagulants, are increasingly used in South Korea. The management of patients using antithrombotic agents and requiring gastrointestinal endoscopy is an important clinical challenge. Although clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for the management of patients receiving antithrombotic agents and undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopy have been developed in the Unites States, Europe, and Asia Pacific region, it is uncertain whether these guidelines can be adopted in South Korea.

Background/aims: Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) are diagnosed and classified using the latest Rome IV criteria, released in 2016. Epidemiology of FGID diagnosed by the Rome IV criteria and current clinical application of gastrointestinal motility testing in Asian countries are not well known. The aims of this survey are to elucidate the present situation of epidemiology and diagnostic tests of FGID in clinical practice in some East and Southeast Asian countries.

This study investigated the potential role of paracardiac fat stranding (FS) interspersed with multiple fluid collections (FC) as a clue to differentiate between pleural tuberculosis (pleural TB) and malignant pleural effusion (MPE). The authors retrospectively analyzed chest computed tomography (CT) findings of 428 patients, 351 with pleural TB and 77 with MPE, focusing on the paracardiac fat, and level of pleural adenosine deaminase (ADA) and blood C-reactive protein (CRP). Two radiologists independently evaluated the chest CT findings regarding the paracardiac fat pad ipsilateral to the effusion, including FS, FC, phlegmonous appearance (a combination of the FS and multiple FC), and the presence of lymph node enlargement (>1 cm in short axis diameter).

Purpose: A linear valve-like structure at the pulmonary artery terminus is identified on CT in some patients with patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and can potentially be mistaken for endarteritis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the differences in CT features between adult patients with PDA and a linear structure and those without.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated ECG-gated cardiac CT of 38 patients with PDA dividing them into two groups [patients with linear symmetrical valve-like structure (group1, n = 16), and those without (group 2, n = 22)].
Background: This study compared the efficacy/safety of the camptothecin analogues belotecan and topotecan for sensitive-relapsed small-cell lung cancer (SCLC).
Methods: One-hundred-and-sixty-four patients were randomised (1:1) to receive five consecutive daily intravenous infusions of topotecan (1.5 mg/m) or belotecan (0.

Although surgery was the standard treatment for early gastrointestinal cancers, endoscopic resection is now a standard treatment for early gastrointestinal cancers without regional lymph node metastasis. High-definition white light endoscopy, chromoendoscopy, and image-enhanced endoscopy such as narrow band imaging are performed to assess the edge and depth of early gastrointestinal cancers for delineation of resection boundaries and prediction of the possibility of lymph node metastasis before the decision of endoscopic resection. Endoscopic mucosal resection and/or endoscopic submucosal dissection can be performed to remove early gastrointestinal cancers completely by en bloc fashion.
