Aim: To compare tissue levels of the regulatory enzymes related to the Krebs cycle between low, and high-grade supratentorial gliomas.
Material And Methods: Forty patients who underwent surgery for supratentorial gliomas (19 with low-grade and 21 with high-grade gliomas) were evaluated. The regulatory enzymes directly involved in the Krebs cycle, namely pyruvate dehydrogenase, citrate synthase, ?-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, and isocitrate dehydrogenase, and two enzymes that indirectly regulate the Krebs cycle, namely glutamate dehydrogenase and glutaminase, were quantitatively studied in tumor tissues using ELISA.

Background: The efficacy of continuous antibiotic prophylaxis in preventing urinary tract infection (UTI) in infants with grade III, IV, or V vesicoureteral reflux is controversial.
Methods: In this investigator-initiated, randomized, open-label trial performed in 39 European centers, we randomly assigned infants 1 to 5 months of age with grade III, IV, or V vesicoureteral reflux and no previous UTIs to receive continuous antibiotic prophylaxis (prophylaxis group) or no treatment (untreated group) for 24 months. The primary outcome was the occurrence of the first UTI during the trial period.

Introduction: The feasibility and standardization of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) and unstable angina (UA) remain topics of ongoing debate. In this study, feasibility and early-term outcomes of CABG in patients with NSTE-ACS and UA were discussed.
Methods: This study enrolled 79 patients who underwent on-pump CABG with complete revascularization between January 2020 and May 2022.

Hypertriglyceridemia is a type of dyslipidemia characterized by high triglyceride levels in the blood and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Conventional management includes antilipidemic medications such as statins, lowering LDL and triglyceride levels as well as raising HDL levels. However, the treatment may be stratified using omega-3 fatty acid supplements such as eicosatetraenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), aka fish oil derivatives.

Secondary immunodeficiency (SID) can occur as a result of multiple factors, including hematological malignancies, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), immunosuppressive treatment, biologics, and anti-inflammatory drugs. SID includes disorders resulting from impairment of both cellular and humoral immunity. This review focuses on the current risk factors, implications, and challenges in managing SID patients with impaired humoral immunity, which includes quantitative (hypogammaglobulinemia) and/or functional antibody and B-cell deficiencies specifically related to hematological malignancies and post-HSCT.

Background: Aortic valve diseases are life-threatening conditions with increasing prevalence worldwide. Risk factors include gender, age, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and type 2 diabetes. Obesity is closely related to these risk factors and has been linked to a higher risk of developing aortic valve diseases.

Importance: Radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS) represents the earliest detectable preclinical phase of multiple sclerosis (MS) punctuated by incidental magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) white matter anomalies within the central nervous system.
Objective: To determine the time to onset of symptoms consistent with MS.
Design, Setting, And Participants: From September 2017 to October 2022, this multicenter, double-blind, phase 3, randomized clinical trial investigated the efficacy of teriflunomide in delaying MS in individuals with RIS, with a 3-year follow-up.

Ionizing radiation (IR) exposures have increased exponentially in recent years due to the rise in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. A number of small-scale studies investigated the long-term effect of IR on health workers or immediate effects of IR on patients undergoing catheterization procedures; however, the long-term impact of multiple cardiac catheterizations on DNA damage on a patient population is not known. In this study, the effects of IR on DNA damage, based on micronuclei (MN) frequency and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) as markers in peripheral lymphocytes, were evaluated in patients who previously underwent multiple cardiac catheterization procedures.

Background: The Meta-Analysis Global Group in Chronic Heart Failure (MAGGIC) is a scoring system that is easy to use in outpatient clinics or at the bedside, and was developed to predict the survival of heart failure patients after hospitalization.
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the relationship between the MAGGIC score and cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) in patients with acute decompensated heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).
Methods: This retrospective, single-center study, included 706 patients with New York Heart Association II-IV who were hospitalized and discharged for acute decompensated heart failure between 2016 and 2021.

Purpose: Trabecular bone score (TBS) is a grey-level textural measurement acquired from dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry lumbar spine images and is a validated index of bone microarchitecture. In 2015, a Working Group of the European Society on Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases (ESCEO) published a review of the TBS literature, concluding that TBS predicts hip and major osteoporotic fracture, at least partly independent of bone mineral density (BMD) and clinical risk factors. It was also concluded that TBS is potentially amenable to change as a result of pharmacological therapy.

Purpose: In patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF), functional changes are observed in the left atrium (LA) after pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) procedure. Although previous studies have investigated the altered mechanical functions of the LA with radiofrequency (RF) ablation, changes in the LA functions in the early period after cryoablation (CB-2) have not been clearly demonstrated. This study aims to explore the early periodical changes in mechanical functions of the LA in patients with PAF who underwent CB-2 based ablation through the help of echocardiographic methods which contain Doppler and strain parameters.

Background: Patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) who discontinue fingolimod might present with rebound activity. The reasons for the development of rebound have been identified, but there are limited data on the long-term clinical outcomes of these patients. This study aimed to compare the long-term outcomes of patients with MS with and without rebound activity after fingolimod discontinuation.

Background: In the general population, maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy is associated with worse maternal outcomes; however, only one study so far has evaluated COVID-19 clinical outcomes in pregnant and postpartum women with multiple sclerosis, showing no higher risk for poor COVID-19 outcomes in these patients.
Objective: In this multicenter study, we aimed to evaluate COVID-19 clinical outcomes in pregnant patients with multiple sclerosis.
Methods: We recruited 85 pregnant patients with multiple sclerosis who contracted COVID-19 after conception and were prospectively followed-up in Italian and Turkish Centers, in the period 2020-2022.
