[Fluorides in water for consumption in northern and western Mexico].

The amount of fluoride in water in some regions of Mexico represents a public health problem. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review of original studies that report fluoride levels in tap and bottled water from the northern and western regions of Mexico. A systematic review was conducted using the PRISMA method in PubMed, Scopus, Medigraphic and Scielo databases.

The cardiorenal syndrome is a complex entity in which a primary heart dysfunction causes kidney injury (Types 1 and 2) and vice versa (Types 3 and 4), being either acute or chronic events, or maybe the result of a systemic disease that involves both organs (Type 5). Approximately 49% of heart failure cases present some grade of kidney dysfunction, significantly increasing morbidity and mortality rates. Its pathogenesis involves a variety of hemodynamic, hormonal and immunological factors that in the majority of cases produce fluid overload; the diagnosis and treatment of such constitutes the disease’s management basis.

Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is a condition that has no clinical signs and symptoms. LTBI patients are characterized by persistent immune responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and approximately 5-10% of these infected individuals will develop active TB at some point in their lives. The antigen transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP1) is a protein involved in the transport of the antigen from the cytoplasm to the endoplasmic reticulum by means of the association with MHC class I molecules.

La terapia de reemplazo renal continuo (CRRT, por sus siglas en inglés) se utiliza en pacientes críticamente enfermos con lesión renal aguda (LRA). Este tratamiento tiene una historia cargada de tintes pasionales y ambiciosos que han revolucionado el tratamiento en las Unidades de terapia intensiva. Avances tecnológicos permiten remover toxinas y ajustar líquidos y moléculas de manera paulatina y segura, lo que que plausiblemente mejora el pronóstico clínico.

La lesión renal aguda (LRA) o injuria renal aguda, como se describe en Sudamérica, está sobreestimada por estudios epidemiológicos de países de alto nivel económico. En Latinoamérica (LA) existe un vacío de información sobre la epidemiología de la LRA. Se realizó una búsqueda de artículos publicados en LA referentes a la LRA y se hallaron 61 estudios, que representan a 10,670 pacientes latinoamericanos, en los cuales se distingue entre población adulta y pediátrica, LRA adquirida en la comunidad (LRA-AC) y adquirida en el hospital (LRA-AH), y se describen sus etiologías y desenlaces.

Introduction: Osteocalcin has been shown to have an inverse relationship with blood glucose, insulin resistance and adiposity.

Objective: To determine osteocalcin normal serum concentration in Mexican healthy adults and compare it with values reported in other populations.

Method: Carboxylated and undercarboxylated osteocalcin serum concentrations were determined in 100 healthy adults by means of enzyme immunoassay; osteocalcin total concentration was calculated.
