Cancer is a global health issue, increasingly prevalent and a leading cause of mortality. Despite extensive research, conventional treatments remain aggressive, often damaging healthy cells, and exhibit limited efficacy. Addressing drug resistance and enhancing treatment effectiveness are critical challenges in advancing cancer therapy.

Globally, intron 22 inversions (Inv22s) of the factor VIII gene (F8) are the most frequent pathogenic variants and account for 45-50% of severe hemophilia A (SHA) cases, while intron 1 inversion (Inv1) explains 1-5% of SHA cases. The detection of both inversions by an inverse shifting-polymerase chain reaction (IS-PCR) is the first choice worldwide for the diagnosis of patients and carriers of SHA. To improve its sensitivity and reproducibility in the visualization of PCR products, we approached the IS-PCR with fluorescent capillary electrophoresis instead of agarose electrophoresis.

Introduction: Obesity is characterized by low-grade chronic inflammation, which can be modulated by lipid mediators derived from omega-3 (-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Obesity is a multifactorial disease, where genetic and environmental factors strongly interact to increase its development. In this context, the gene encodes the delta-5 desaturase protein, which catalyzes the desaturation of PUFA.

Toxoplasmosis is a disease caused by the intracellular protozoan , which has infected a third of the global population. Immunocompromised individuals and children with congenital disorders are most likely to be impacted by toxoplasmosis, and accurate diagnosis is essential. Toxoplasmosis is associated with HIV, schizophrenia, and diabetes.

Th17 cells are known for producing IL-17 and their role in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune diseases, including myositis. Likewise, the participation of the IL-23/IL-17 pathway in autoimmunity has been confirmed. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the behavior of cytokines in myositis, focusing on the autoantibodies profile and the myositis core set measures.

Diabetes is a public health problem with an estimated worldwide prevalence of 10% and a prevalence of 12% in Mexico. The costs resulting from this chronic-degenerative disease are significant. Treatment for diabetes involves different medication groups, some of which can cause significant gastrointestinal adverse effects, such as dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation.

The characteristics of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are essential in orthodontic and prosthetic treatments. Previous studies have suggested an association between articular eminence inclinations (AEI) and occlusal plane characteristics using radiographs, but no bilateral analysis has been conducted using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). This study aimed to investigate the specific characteristics of the occlusal plane inclinations associated with unilateral and bilateral AEI using CBCT.

This study investigates how traumatic injuries alter joint movements in the ankle and foot. We used a brain injury model in rats, focusing on the hippocampus between the CA1 and dentate gyrus. We assessed the dissimilarity factor (DF) and vertical displacement (VD) of the ankle and metatarsus joints before and after the hippocampal lesion.

Liver diseases represent a worldwide health problem accountable for two million deaths per year. Oxidative stress is critical for the development of these diseases. N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is effective in preventing liver damage, both in experimental and clinical studies, and evidence has shown that the pharmacodynamic mechanisms of NAC are related to its antioxidant nature and ability to modulate key signaling pathways.

Introduction: Despite the improvement in survival in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), there are still cases with evasion of chemotherapy-induced apoptosis. The IKK/NF-κB signaling pathway contributes to antiapoptotic gene expression. Pentoxifylline (PTX) inhibits IkB phosphorylation, blocking NF-κB and antiapoptotic activity.

Intestinal failure (IF) is a debilitating condition characterized by the insufficient function of the gastrointestinal tract to absorb nutrients and fluids essential for life. This review consolidates recent advancements and challenges in managing IF among adult and pediatric populations, highlighting differences in etiology, management, and outcomes. Over the recent years, significant strides have been made in the nutritional and medical management of IF, significantly reducing mortality rates and improving the quality of life for patients.

Background/objectives: Estrogens and HPV are necessary for cervical cancer (CC) development. The levels of the G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) increase as CC progresses, and HPV oncoproteins promote GPER expression. The role of this receptor is controversial due to its anti- and pro-tumor effects.

Chronic migraines have been described chiefly only from a clinical perspective. However, searching for reliable molecular markers has allowed for the discovery of the expression of different genes mainly associated with inflammation, neuro-vascularization, and pain-related pathways. The interest in microRNAs (miRs) that can regulate the expression of these genes has gained significant relevance since multiple miRs could play a key role in regulating these events.

Obesity is a globally prevalent metabolic disorder characterized by an increased number of adipose cells and excessive fat in adipocytes. Herbal medicines, such as ginger, have shown potential in treating obesity by inhibiting adipogenesis and reducing adipocyte hypertrophy. Ginger contains bioactive compounds, particularly gingerols, which have demonstrated anti-adipogenic and/or lipolytic effects.

Health funding agencies are increasingly prioritizing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) strategies. This shift, while essential, can inadvertently lead to 'helicopter research', especially among junior researchers, due to insufficient institutional support. We warn against such unethical practices and propose strategies for academia and funding bodies to address them.
