Background: Cumaceans mostly inhabit marine environments, where they play a crucial role in marine food webs and actively participate in the transfer between benthic and pelagic systems. Scientific interest in these crustaceans has been increasing, but is limited to certain geographic areas, which do not include extreme environments such as hydrothermal vents.
New Information: Therefore, this study aimed to report the distribution of cumaceans in shallow-water hydrothermal vents at Banderas Bay and to identify the specimens present.

Substance use disorder (SUD) significantly impacts public health, economics, and legal systems worldwide. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) was initially developed in the late 1980s as a therapeutic approach for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), using bilateral stimulation to integrate traumatic memories with calming physiological responses. However, the effectiveness of EMDR in treating SUD remains unclear.

This study investigated the association between the rs13306703 and rs8192288 variants of the superoxide dismutase 3 () gene and breast cancer (BC) in the Mexican population, conducting both genetic and in silico analyses. 357 healthy women and 386 BC patients were studied using TaqMan assays, qPCR, and RFLP-PCR. The genotype and a recessive pattern of these variants were risk factors for BC ( < 0.

Yttrium vanadate (YVO) is a non-toxic ceramic matrix that, when doped with lanthanides, can be used as a photoluminescent biosensor. In this study, we meticulously synthesized upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) of YVO via chemical coprecipitation, using Er and Yb ions for codoping. The light emission achieved through upconversion mechanisms enables the excitation of nanoparticles with infrared light rather than ultraviolet light, enhancing the potential of current bioimaging techniques.

The popularity of genomic selection as an efficient and cost-effective approach to estimate breeding values continues to increase, due in part to the significant saving in phenotyping. Ridge regression is one of the most popular methods used for genomic prediction; however, its efficiency (in terms of prediction performance) depends on the appropriate tunning of the penalization parameter. In this paper we propose a novel, more efficient method to select the optimal penalization parameter for Ridge regression.

In plant breeding, Multi-Environment Trials (METs) evaluate candidate genotypes across various conditions, which is financially costly due to extensive field testing. Sparse testing addresses this challenge by evaluating some genotypes in selected environments, allowing for a broader range of environments without significantly increasing costs. This approach integrates genomic information to adjust phenotypic data, leading to more accurate genetic effect estimations.

In this paper, we present the synthesis of composite materials comprised of α-cellulose and sugarcane bagasse cellulose fibers grafted with lactic acid and ε-caprolactone. These fibers were incorporated as reinforcements into a PLA matrix by extrusion, producing composite materials with improved mechanical properties. The grafting of lactic acid and ε-caprolactone onto the fibers was confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy, demonstrating the chemical modification of the fibers.

Electromyography (EMG) stands out as an accessible and inexpensive method for identifying muscle contractions on the surface and within deeper muscle tissues. Using specialized electronic circuits for amplification and filtering can help develop simple but effective systems for detecting and analyzing these signals. However, EMG devices developed by research teams frequently lack rigorous methodologies for validating the quality of the signals they record compared to those obtained by commercial systems that have undergone extensive testing and regulatory approval for market release.

Deep learning methods have been applied when working to enhance the prediction accuracy of traditional statistical methods in the field of plant breeding. Although deep learning seems to be a promising approach for genomic prediction, it has proven to have some limitations, since its conventional methods fail to leverage all available information. Multimodal deep learning methods aim to improve the predictive power of their unimodal counterparts by introducing several modalities (sources) of input information.

Despite extensive research into the phylogenetic relationships of the genus , Neotropical taxa have been neglected. This is partly because their numbers have recently doubled and now account for almost half of the global richness. Therefore, by sampling one-third of all Neotropical taxa their relationships were studied using morphological, nuclear, and plastome data.

Globally, intron 22 inversions (Inv22s) of the factor VIII gene (F8) are the most frequent pathogenic variants and account for 45-50% of severe hemophilia A (SHA) cases, while intron 1 inversion (Inv1) explains 1-5% of SHA cases. The detection of both inversions by an inverse shifting-polymerase chain reaction (IS-PCR) is the first choice worldwide for the diagnosis of patients and carriers of SHA. To improve its sensitivity and reproducibility in the visualization of PCR products, we approached the IS-PCR with fluorescent capillary electrophoresis instead of agarose electrophoresis.

This study investigates how traumatic injuries alter joint movements in the ankle and foot. We used a brain injury model in rats, focusing on the hippocampus between the CA1 and dentate gyrus. We assessed the dissimilarity factor (DF) and vertical displacement (VD) of the ankle and metatarsus joints before and after the hippocampal lesion.

Microquasars are laboratories for the study of jets of relativistic particles produced by accretion onto a spinning black hole. Microquasars are near enough to allow detailed imaging of spatial features across the multiwavelength spectrum. The recent extension measurement of the spatial morphology of a microquasar, SS 433, to TeV gamma rays localizes the acceleration of electrons at shocks in the jet far from the black hole.

Genomic selection is revolutionizing both plant and animal breeding, with its practical application depending critically on high prediction accuracy. In this study, we aimed to enhance prediction accuracy by exploring the use of graph models within a linear mixed model framework. Our investigation revealed that incorporating the graph constructed with line connections alone resulted in decreased prediction accuracy compared to conventional methods that consider only genotype effects.

Nanocomposites prepared with a terpolymer of poly(L-lactide) (PLLA)-poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)-poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and partially oxidized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were synthesized and characterized to evaluate their ability to act as an effective nanocarrier of the anticancer drug methotrexate. The homopolymers of PLLA and PCL were synthesized through ring-opening polymerization (ROP) and characterized through gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The PLLA-PCL-PEG terpolymers were synthesized through a four-step chemical route using oxalyl chloride as a linker agent and analyzed with H-NMR, C-NMR, and FTIR spectroscopies.

Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis is a demyelinating disease that causes paralysis in laboratory rats. This condition lacks treatment that reverses damage to the myelin sheaths of neuronal cells. Therefore, in this study, treatment with EPO as a neuroprotective effect was established to evaluate the ERK 1/2 signaling pathway and its participation in the EAE model.
