The BALB/c model of pristane-induced lupus (PIL) exhibits cognitive impairment features resembling neuropsychiatric lupus (NPLSE). Osteopontin (OPN) is associated with disease activity in SLE; however, its involvement in NPLSE is not yet entirely determined. Our study aims to elucidate the contribution of full-length OPN (OPN-FL) plasma expression, OPN N-half, and to cognitive impairment in the PIL mice model.

Cancer is a global health issue, increasingly prevalent and a leading cause of mortality. Despite extensive research, conventional treatments remain aggressive, often damaging healthy cells, and exhibit limited efficacy. Addressing drug resistance and enhancing treatment effectiveness are critical challenges in advancing cancer therapy.

Despite extensive research into the phylogenetic relationships of the genus , Neotropical taxa have been neglected. This is partly because their numbers have recently doubled and now account for almost half of the global richness. Therefore, by sampling one-third of all Neotropical taxa their relationships were studied using morphological, nuclear, and plastome data.

Neuronal splicing regulator RNA binding protein, fox-1 homolog 3 (NeuN/RbFox3), is expressed in postmitotic neurons and distributed heterogeneously in the cell. During excitotoxicity events caused by the excess glutamate, several alterations that culminate in neuronal death have been described. However, NeuN/RbFox3 organization and distribution are still unknown.

Multi-taxa approaches are increasingly used because they describe complementary aspects of ecosystem dynamics from a community ecology perspective. In west-central Mexico, the complex biogeography and topography have created an environment where temperate and tropical forests converge, resulting in great biological diversity. Within this region, the Sierra de Quila Natural Protected Area (SQPA) offers an important example for understanding ecological community dynamics.

There is a lack of information about Salmonella enterica strains under acidic conditions and their association with their genome. This study characterized intraspecies variability in the growth of 167 S. enterica isolates under two acid conditions (pH 4 and 5) and linked to the whole genome sequencing (WGS) data.

Neuroinflammation and oxidative stress are important features in the pathogenesis and development of synucleinopathies, the glial activation and upregulation of pro-inflammatory and oxidative mediators induce alpha-synuclein (α-syn) accumulation. Recent studies have shown that bee venom (BV) has beneficial effects on symptoms of these neurodegenerative diseases. BV is known to exert anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects.

CMTM6 is a membrane protein that acts as a regulator of PD-L1, maintaining its expression on the cell surface, and can prevent its lysosome-mediated degradation. It is unknown if CMTM6 is present in the plasma of patients with cervical cancer, and if it has non-canonical subcellular localizations in cell lines derived from cervical cancer. Our objective was to determine whether CMTM6 is found in plasma derived from cervical cancer patients and its subcellular localization in cell lines.

Background: The insoluble tangles of alpha-synuclein (α-syn) protein in the nigrostriatal circuit, characteristic of synucleinopathy, originate from low molecular weight oligomers, whose appearance and dissemination are related to neuroinflammation. These oligomeric forms of α-syn are considered highly cytotoxic but transient, so knowing the timing in which they appear remains challenging. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the abundance of oligomeric forms of α-syn and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) between 3 and 7 days after inducing neuroinflammation with lipopolysaccharide (LPS).

In Mexico, land use changes have significantly impacted the diversity of amphibians and reptiles in a negative way. In light of this, we evaluate the alpha and beta components of the taxonomic diversity of amphibians and reptiles in a heterogeneous landscape in west-central Mexico. Additionally, we provide a checklist of amphibian and reptile species recorded over nine years of observations within the studied landscape and surrounding areas.

To achieve global herd immunity, widespread vaccination is the most effective strategy. Vaccines stimulate the immune system, generating cytokines and chemokines, isotype antibodies, and neutralizing antibodies; all these molecules collectively provide a more comprehensive characterization of the immune response post-vaccination. We conducted a longitudinal study in northwestern Mexico, involving 120 individuals before vaccination and after the first dose of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, and 46 individuals after their second dose.

Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) remains the only licensed vaccine against tuberculosis (TB). While BCG protects against TB in children, its protection against pulmonary TB in adults is suboptimal, and the development of a better TB vaccine is a global health priority. Previously, we reported two recombinant BCG strains effective against murine TB with low virulence and lung pathology in immunocompromised mice and guinea pigs.

pathogenic variants are related to the improper functioning of the WNT/β-catenin pathway, promoting the development of different types of cancer of somatic origin. Bioinformatics analyses of genetic variation are a great tool to understand the possible consequences of these variants on protein structure and function and their probable implication in pathologies. The objective of this study is to describe the impact of the missense variants of uncertain significance (VUS) of the gene on structure and function of the β-catenin protein.

Cervical cancer (CC) poses a significant health burden, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. NK cells play a crucial role against CC; however, they can become exhausted and lose their cytotoxic capacity. This work explores the expression of costimulatory receptors (ICOS, 4-1BB, OX-40) in exhausted NK cells from CC patients.

Furin (Fur) is a member of the protease convertase family; its expression is crucial for cleaving and maturing many proteins. Fur also represents a therapeutic target in cancer, autoimmune diseases, and viral infections. Pioglitazone (PGZ) and rosiglitazone (RGZ) are thiazolidinediones prescribed to type 2 diabetes patients and are structurally similar to the known Fur inhibitors naphthofluorescein (NPF) and pirfenidone (PFD).

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental affliction characterized by compulsive behaviors often manifested in intrusive thoughts and repetitive actions. The quinpirole model has been used with rats to replicate compulsive behaviors and study the neurophysiological processes associated with this pathology. Several changes in the dendritic spines of the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and dorsolateral striatum (DLS) have been related to the occurrence of compulsive behaviors.

Earth harbours an extraordinary plant phenotypic diversity that is at risk from ongoing global changes. However, it remains unknown how increasing aridity and livestock grazing pressure-two major drivers of global change-shape the trait covariation that underlies plant phenotypic diversity. Here we assessed how covariation among 20 chemical and morphological traits responds to aridity and grazing pressure within global drylands.

We searched for the prevalence of actionable somatic mutations in exon 2 of the gene in western Mexican patients with CRC. Tumor tissue DNA samples from 150 patients with sporadic CRC recruited at the Civil Hospital of Guadalajara were analyzed. Mutations in exon 2 of the gene were identified using Sanger sequencing, and the data were analyzed considering clinical-pathological characteristics.
