Introduction And Objectives: Magnesium sulphate has been used in anesthesia because it has relevant clinical features such as: analgesia, autonomic response control and muscle relaxation. Using the agent to establish adequate conditions for tracheal intubation remains controversial. The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of magnesium sulfate and rocuronium for rapid sequence tracheal intubation in adults.

A cell surface arabinogalactan-peptide influences root hair cell fate.

Root hairs (RHs) develop from specialized epidermal trichoblast cells, whereas epidermal cells that lack RHs are known as atrichoblasts. The mechanism controlling RH cell fate is only partially understood. RH cell fate is regulated by a transcription factor complex that promotes the expression of the homeodomain protein GLABRA 2 (GL2), which blocks RH development by inhibiting ROOT HAIR DEFECTIVE 6 (RHD6).

This paper aims to present the use of triangulation in qualitative research as a strategy to achieve the proposed objectives, to ensure credibility, reliability, and greater scientific accuracy in its achievement. In this sense, triangulation - since it is not restricted to the use of only one method, theory, data source or researcher in the process of analyzing an event - allows the apprehension of a given reality from several angles, enabling information confrontation, in order to minimize bias resulting from a single analytical perspective. Thus, aiming at evidencing the possibilities of using such a methodological design, we used as an example a qualitative study about experiences of caregivers for patients with head and neck neoplasms, developed through multiple triangulation, namely: methodological (intra-method), data, researcher and environmental triangulation.

The Lazy Life of Lipid-Linked Oligosaccharides in All Life Domains.

J Chem Inf Model

February 2020

Centro de Biotecnologia , Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul , Porto Alegre , RS 91509-900 , Brazil.

Lipid-linked oligosaccharides (LLOs) play an important role in the N-glycosylation pathway as the donor substrate of oligosaccharyltransferases (OSTs), which are responsible for the transfer of glycan chains onto a nascent polypeptide. The lipid component of LLO in both eukarya and archaea consists of a dolichol, and an undecaprenol in prokarya, whereas the number of isoprene units may change between species. Given the potential relevance of LLOs and their related enzymes to diverse biotechnological applications, obtaining reliable LLO models from distinct domains of life could support further studies on complex formation and their processing by OSTs, as well as protein engineering on such systems.

Electronic address:

Background: After serious epidemics of chikungunya (CHIKV) and Zika (ZIKV) in the Americas, dengue (DENV) have reemerged in most countries. We analyzed the incidence, incidence rates, and evolution of DENV cases in Honduras from 2015 to 2018 and the ongoing 2019 epidemic.

Methods: Using epidemiological weeks (EW) surveillance data on the DENV in Honduras, we estimated incidence rates (cases/100,000 population), and developed maps at national, departmental, and municipal levels.

Schistosomiasis treatment is dependent on a single drug, praziquantel (PZQ). The development of resistance of PZQ has drawn the attention of many researchers to alternative drugs. One viable and promising treatment is the study of medicinal plants as a new approach to the experimental treatment for Schistosomiasis.

Data on the association of blood pressure (BP) phenotypes with office and out-of-office markers of vascular stiffness and pressure wave reflection are sparse. This study investigated office and 24-h measures of brachial BP, pulse wave velocity (PWV), and central augmentation index (AIx) across hypertension phenotypes among individuals not using BP-lowering medications [normotension (NT), white-coat hypertension (WH), masked hypertension (MH) and sustained hypertension (SH)] and those using BP-lowering medications [controlled hypertension (CH), white-coat uncontrolled hypertension (WUCH), masked uncontrolled hypertension (MUCH) and sustained uncontrolled hypertension (SUCH)]. We evaluated 454 untreated (age = 45 ± 15 years, 50% males) and 238 treated (age = 52 ± 15 years, 45% males) individuals who underwent office and 24-h brachial BP, PWV, and AIx measures using a Mobil-O-Graph PWA monitor.

Article Synopsis
  • The study highlights that measuring blood pressure in a doctor's office can often be inaccurate, which may lead to misdiagnosis of conditions like masked hypertension (MH) and white-coat hypertension (WCH).
  • It analyzed data from 1,273 participants with pre-hypertensive and stage 1 hypertensive conditions using home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM) over a four-day period, revealing significant differences between casual and home measurements.
  • The findings showed that a substantial number of participants were misdiagnosed, with 22.9% having sustained hypertension, 11.4% with MH, and 21.9% with WCH, indicating a need for more accurate out-of-office blood pressure assessments to prevent these errors

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate and compare the prevalences of dental fluorosis in Brazilian cities supplied with non-fluoridated water and in locations that uses groundwater. In December of 2016, cross-sectional studies were searched in eight databases, including the "grey literature". The prevalences were estimated through a mixed random effects model considering the locations as subgroups.
