Background: Congenital intracranial dermoid tumors are very rare. The location of these dermoid lesions in the cavernous sinus and the complexity of the operative procedure for these lesions have been noted by several authors. Dermoid tumors originating in the cavernous sinus are usually interdural, and thus blurred vision is an uncommon presentation.

Diabetes mellitus is an epidemic multisystemic chronic disease that frequently is complicated by complex wound infections. Innovative topical antimicrobial therapy agents are potentially useful for multimodal treatment of these infections. However, an appropriately standardized in vivo model is currently not available to facilitate the screening of these emerging products and their effect on wound healing.

Introduction: The elderly population admitted for acute myocardial infarction is increasing. This group is not well studied in international trials and is probably treated with a more conservative approach.
Objectives: To evaluate the presentation and treatment of myocardial infarction according to age, particularly in very elderly patients.

Aims: An epidemiological survey of diabetic foot infections (DFIs) in Lisbon, stratifying the bacterial profile based on patient demographical data, diabetic foot characteristics (PEDIS classification), ulcer duration and antibiotic therapy.
Methods: A transversal observational multicenter study, with clinical data collection using a structured questionnaire and microbiological products (aspirates, biopsies or swabs collected using the Levine method) of clinically infected foot ulcers of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM).
Results: Forty-nine hospitalized and ambulatory patients were enrolled in this study, and 147 microbial isolates were cultured.

Introduction: Obese patients submitted to elective coronary angioplasty have a paradoxical reduction in hospital and long-term mortality. In primary angioplasty setting, the relation with Body Mass Index (BMI) is less studied.
Objectives: To evaluate the impact of obesity in the results after ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction treated by primary angioplasty.

Introduction: Carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) is considered an early marker for atherosclerosis, but there are few studies on the expression of this marker in younger populations.
Objectives: To evaluate cIMT in younge patients (aged 30-50 years) and its expression according to cardiovascular risk factors.
Methods: We analyzed individuals admitted for an invasive cardiac procedure.

Introduction: Obesity is an important risk factor for the development of diabetes, hypertension, coronary disease, left ventricular dysfunction, stroke and cardiac arrhythmias. Paradoxically, previous studies in patients undergoing elective coronary angioplasty showed a reduction in hospital and long-term mortality in obese patients. The relation with body mass index (BMI) has been less studied in the context of primary angioplasty.

Negative pressure pulmonary oedema is an uncommon complication of traqueal extubation (approximately 0,1%) mostly caused by acute upper airway obstruction. Upper airway obstruction from glottis closure leads to marked inspiratory effort, which generates negative intrathoracic pressure transmitting to pulmonary interstitium, and inducing fluid transudation from pulmonary capillary bed(1-5). We report a case of post-extubation pulmonary oedema in a fifteen years old patient, submitted to surgery following traumatic amputation of his left leg.
