Metastatic prostate cancer treatment is based on androgen deprivation, with pharmacological or surgical castration. This treatment may be complemented with the addition of antiandrogenic drugs. In the setting of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) progression and subsequent suspension of the antiandrogenic drug, there might occur a phenomenon of antiandrogen withdrawal, leading to a decrease in PSA and/or improvement in imaging or clinical outcomes after discontinuation of the antiandrogenic agent.

Purpose: Intermediate age-related macular degeneration (iAMD) is a risk factor for progression to advanced stages, but rates of progression vary between individuals. Predicting individual risk is advantageous for programing timely and effective treatment and for patient stratification into future clinical trials.
Methods: We conducted a prospective and noninterventional study following patients with iAMD for 24 months.

Background: Arteriovenous grafts (AVGs) are used for patients deemed unsuitable for the creation of an autogenous arteriovenous fistula (AVF) or unable to await maturation of the AVF before starting hemodialysis. However, AVGs are prone to infection and thrombosis resulting in low long-term patency rates. The novel aXess Hemodialysis Graft consists of porous polymeric biomaterial allowing the infiltration by cells and the growth of neotissue, while the graft itself is gradually absorbed, ultimately resulting in a fully functional natural blood vessel.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a multifactorial disease, whose complete pathogenesis is still unclear. Local hemodynamics may play a crucial role in its manifestation and progression. To evaluate choroidal and retinal vascular parameters, a total of 134 eyes were analyzed, 100 with intermediate AMD and 34 age matched healthy controls.

This study reports an exceptional case of a 14-year-old girl with sickle cell disease that was diagnosed with agenesis of the vermiform appendix and ileal duplication. Both consist of extremely rare gastrointestinal malformations whose association has never been described. The preadolescent girl presented with abdominal pain and vomiting, and the ultrasound was suggestive of acute appendicitis.

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is an extremely common and well-established procedure in adults which is rarely performed in children. We present a case of a successful left main coronary artery stenting in a small infant with a congenital coronary artery anomaly. We highlight the technical challenges of performing a PCI in a small patient, the risks of antithrombotic prophylaxis in this age group, and the importance of the combined work of the adult and pediatric interventional cardiologist.

Diabetic macular edema (DME) is the main cause of visual impairment associated with diabetic retinopathy (DR) and macular laser, during approximately three decades, and was the single treatment option. More recently, intravitreous injections of anti-angiogenics and corticosteroids modified the treatment paradigm associated with significant vision improvements. Nevertheless, not all patients respond satisfactorily to anti-VEGF or corticosteroid injections, so an adequate treatment choice and a prompt switch in therapeutic class is recommended.

Among older adults, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a prevalent disabling condition that begins as subtle visual disturbances and can progress to permanent loss of central vision. In its late neovascular form, AMD is treatable with inhibitors of vascular endothelial growth factor, the key driver of exudative disease. In the atrophic form, treatment remains elusive.

Subretinal fluid accumulation in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) may represent a diagnostic challenge. We present a case of a 43-year-old man with baseline diagnosis of SLE and hydroxychloroquine-associated maculopathy who reported progressive vision loss on the right eye, associated with corticosteroids use for an arthritic crisis. Ophthalmological examination did not reveal any acute finding.

Solitary neurofibromas of the larynx are extremely rare, with a total of 15 cases described in the literature. Nonetheless, acquaintance with this diagnosis is important, as misdiagnoses can have negative consequences. Presenting symptoms are non-specific and depend on tumour size and location.

They present most frequently in cases of superior vena cava (SVC) obstruction and are related to the recruitment of the cavo-mammary-phrenic-hepatic-capsule-portal and the cavo-superficial-umbilical-portal pathways. We present the case of a 52-year-old female patient with an highly aggressive retroperitoneal liposarcoma with SVC obstruction caused by external compression due to a mediastinal metastatic mass.

Background/aims: To investigate the influence of anterior chamber depth (ACD) and lens thickness (LT) on 9 intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulas accuracy, in patients with normal axial lengths.
Methods: Retrospective case series, including patients having uncomplicated cataract surgery with insertion of a single IOL model, divided into three groups according to preoperative ACD. Each group was further subdivided into three subgroups, according to the LT.
Introduction: Perifoveal exudative vascular anomalous complex (PEVAC) is an underdiagnosed macular entity. A striking feature of this entity is the unresponsiveness to anti-VEGF treatment. Continuous wave milipulse yellow laser 577 nm (CWMYL-577) has a high absorption peak for oxyhaemoglobin, which allows for low power density use.

Background: Resistance training (RT) is an effective way to increase muscle mass but little is known about its role to prevent sarcopenia in advanced cancer. Furthermore, the preferred setting for this training is not known. Considering home is frequently the place of care and death preferred by cancer patients, it is important to find out whether this would also be the best training setting as opposed to the most common one, hospital.

Objectives: To assess the efficacy of golimumab in combination with methotrexate (MTX) versus MTX monotherapy in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) dactylitis.
Methods: Multicentre, investigator-initiated, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-design phase 3b trial in 11 Portuguese rheumatology centres. Patients with PsA along with active dactylitis and naive to MTX and biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) were randomly assigned to golimumab or placebo, both in combination with MTX.
