Myofascial pain syndrome is a painful condition characterized by trigger points in muscles that can be treated effectively with acupuncture. While cross-fiber palpation can help localize trigger points, needle accuracy may be limited and accidental puncture of delicate structures, such as the lung, is a risk, as evidenced by reports of pneumothorax after acupuncture. Ultrasound imaging can help in reducing the risk of iatrogenic pneumothorax from needling, but there is a paucity of papers describing the use of ultrasound imaging during acupuncture.

Introduction: In patients with cryptogenic stroke, one of the most frequently found abnormalities is patent foramen ovale (PFO). Percutaneous 'deviceless' systems based on surgical suture-mediated PFO closure have recently been introduced and show a favorable efficacy and safety profile with clear advantages.
Objectives: To present procedural details of the technique and baseline characteristics of patients who underwent the procedure in our center.

Paraoesophageal hernias are common, but symptoms are not always present nor pathognomonic of this condition, and patients may be suffering for many years before a diagnosis is made. Incarceration and strangulation are rare, but they are life-threatening complications, warranting an emergent surgical repair. Hiatal hernia incarceration causing distal oesophagus perforation is even rarer.

Recent evidence indicates the relevant role of the tryptophan (TRP) metabolites in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases via inflammatory and oxidative stress mechanisms. Therefore, quantification of TRP and its metabolites in biological samples can be a powerful tool to elucidate the disease mechanisms. The aim of this work was to develop and validate a liquid chromatography with ultraviolet (UV) and fluorescence detection (FD) (LCUV/FD) method for the quantification of TRP and its metabolites (L-kynurenine (KYN) and kynurenic acid (KA)) in urine samples from heart failure (HF) patients.

Introduction: Coronary intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is increasingly important in catheterization laboratories due to its positive prognostic impact. This study aims to characterize the use of IVUS in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in Portugal.
Methods: A retrospective observational study was performed based on the Portuguese Registry on Interventional Cardiology of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology.

We present a 36 year-old female patient with a popliteo-femoral deep vein thrombosis whose further workup revealed a thigh tumor later diagnosed as hibernoma. Hibernoma is a very rare benign tumor stemming from vestigial remnants of fetal brown adipose cells, usually disclosed as a slow and painless growing, mass. It is impossible to distinguish it on clinical grounds from the more aggressive and ominous liposarcoma.
