Abnormal diaphragmatic motion (ADM) due to phrenic nerve injury is a recognized complication of cardiac surgery and several diagnostic techniques can be used to determine the diagnosis. Due to its relationship with the diaphragm, cardiac kinetics is affected by the abnormal movement of the diaphragm in cases of left hemidiaphragm paralysis. The authors present a case of diaphragmatic paralysis in which the initial diagnosis is made through echocardiography.

A 67-year-old previously healthy woman presented with progressive visual impairment including bitemporal hemianopsia. A brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed a contrast-enhancing mass in the optic chiasm, spreading along the left optic tract. The patient underwent a transcranial biopsy of the left optical tract that yielded a diagnosis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Unlabelled: Synchronous tumours are defined as two or more independent primary neoplasms of different origins diagnosed at the same time in 1 individual. Although rare, its incidence is increasing and the proper diagnosis and staging of each tumour is crucial in defining the patient prognosis and the best therapeutic choice. We present a case of a 56-year-old woman presenting with a lung adenocarcinoma and pulmonary metastases initially diagnosed as stage IV and who was started on a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (erlotinib).

Congenital anomalies of the systemic venous return to the right atrium are rare and stem from variations in the embryogenesis of the venous system. They are usually asymptomatic, and such the major clinical significance of their recognition is to prevent misdiagnosis, in addition to some having technical implications on invasive procedures.Typically, the venous blood from the upper half of the body is carried by the right-sided, superior vena cava (SVC), and some common congenital abnormalities found are persistent left SVC, SVC duplication, anomalous drainage of the brachiocephalic veins, or interruption of the SVC.
