  • This study looked at how low levels of a type of white blood cell (called lymphocytes) in COVID-19 patients can affect their health outcomes.
  • It included 912 adult patients in intensive care units in Portugal and Brazil to see how many had low lymphocyte counts and how it impacted their condition.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed a 9-point score to predict positive outcomes for patients undergoing endovascular therapy (EVT) in late-presenting strokes (6-24 hours after last known well), based on a multinational study involving over 3,200 patients.
  • The score takes into account factors like age, early CT changes, and stroke severity, with higher scores indicating a better chance of functional recovery at 90 days compared to those receiving only medical management.
  • Validation of the score showed it is a useful tool for estimating EVT outcomes, particularly benefiting patients with lower to midrange scores in terms of good functional results and independence.

  • The TuberOus SClerosis registry (TOSCA) aims to gather and present baseline data on patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), focusing on the prevalence and types of epilepsy associated with the condition.
  • A comprehensive collection of patient data from multiple countries revealed that 83.6% of patients reported having epilepsy, with infantile spasms and focal seizures being the most common types, often diagnosed early in life.
  • The findings highlight the importance of genetic factors in predicting the onset of seizures and the effectiveness of GABAergic drugs in treating epilepsy, suggesting better seizure control may correlate with a lower incidence of intellectual disabilities.
