Introduction: Managing burn patients is a challenge requiring a multidisciplinary team with the ability to predict complications and act early to avoid them. There are few studies characterizing the population of critically ill burn patients in need of ventilatory support. This study aimed to describe the population of burn patients in need of invasive mechanical ventilation support and assess in-hospital mortality and the factors associated with it.

Controversy exists regarding whether a combined posterior-anterior approach with total synovectomy is necessary to avert recurrence or malignancy. An 18-year-old Caucasian male presented to the outpatient clinic with clinical and imaging findings indicative of a stage III PSO.

Objectives: Anti-SSA autoantibodies can be differentiated according to their antigenic target proteins as anti-Ro60 (60 kDa) or anti-Ro52 (52 kDa). Anti-SSA(Ro60) antibodies are clearly associated with connective tissue diseases (CTD), but the clinical significance of anti-SSA(Ro52) antibodies remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to analyse the disease phenotype of patients with anti-Ro52 and/or anti-Ro60 antibodies.

Introduction: HIV late presentation (LP) remains excessive in Europe. We aimed to analyze the factors associated with late presentation in the MSM population newly diagnosed with HIV in Portugal between 2014 and 2019.
Methods: We included 391 newly HIV-1 diagnosed Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), from the BESTHOPE project, in 17 countrywide Portuguese hospitals.

The impact of ambulatory resistant hypertension (ARH) on the occurrence of heart failure (HF) is not yet completely known. We performed for the first time a meta-analysis, by using published data or available data from published databases, on the risk of HF in ARH. Patients with ARH (24-h BP ≥ 130/80 mmHg during treatment with ≥3 drugs) were compared with those with controlled hypertension (CH, clinic BP < 140/90 mmHg and 24-h BP < 130/80 mmHg regardless of the number of drugs used), white coat uncontrolled resistant hypertension (WCURH, clinic BP ≥ 140/90 mmHg and 24-h BP < 130/80 mmHg in treated patients) and ambulatory nonresistant hypertension (ANRH, 24-h BP ≥ 130/80 mmHg during therapy with ≤2 drugs).

Introduction The management of sialorrhea in children with multiple disabilities is extremely important not only for aesthetic/psychosocial reasons but also for functional and clinical ones. There are several recommended management methods with strong evidence of the effectiveness of intraglandular application of botulinum toxin A. Materials and methods In this four-year retrospective report, we compare two populations who received intraglandular type A botulinum toxin injections in the pediatric unit of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Department at a central hospital.

Introduction/objectives: The study aims to define the clinical and subclinical calcinosis prevalence, the sensitivity of radiographed site and clinical method for its diagnosis, and the phenotype of Portuguese systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients with calcinosis.
Method: A cross-sectional multicenter study was conducted with SSc patients fulfilling Leroy/Medsger 2001 or ACR/EULAR 2013 classification criteria, registered in the Reuma.pt.

Objectives: Anxiety and depression are relevant comorbidities in asthma, but, in Portugal and Spain, data on this topic are scarce. We assessed, in patients with asthma, the frequency of anxiety and depression using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the European Quality of Life Five Dimension Questionnaire (EQ-5D); the level of agreement between these questionnaires, and the factors associated with these symptoms.
Methods: This is a secondary analysis of the INSPIRERS studies.

Background: Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is a syndrome caused by sensitisation to inhaled antigens that leads to an abnormal immune response in the airways and lung parenchyma. Some patients previously diagnosed with certain types of fibrotic interstitial lung diseases (f-ILDs), including fibrotic HP (f-HP), are susceptible to develop a progressive fibrosing phenotype (PF-ILD), despite initial state-of-the-art management.
Objectives: To characterise a cohort of patients with a multidisciplinary diagnosis (MTD) of chronic f-HP, who were followed up in an ILD outpatient clinic of a hospital in Portugal, and to assess the prevalence of PF-ILD criteria in these patients.

Objectives: We intend to describe a case of McCune-Albright Syndrome (MAS), a rare disease characterized by fibrous dysplasia (FD), cutaneous hyperpigmentation and hyperfunctioning endocrinopathies (HFE).
Case Presentation: We report the case of a 13-year-old male child who presented with a macule in the lumbosacral region and disabling polyostotic FD, requiring several surgical interventions and bisphosphonates from the age of 3 years (Y) + 9 months (M) due to persistent and severe pain. Hyperthyroidism (HT) became apparent at 5 Y + 1 M with a T3/T4 ratio greater than 20.

Background The natural history of subclinical hypothyroidism (SHT) is influenced by the underlying etiology, being the most common Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and isolated hyperthyrotropinemia (IH). Additionally, controversy exists surrounding the need for pharmacological treatment. Methods A retrospective observational study that included patients diagnosed with SHT caused by HT or IH at pediatric age, under levothyroxine therapy and with follow-up at Centro Hospitalar Baixo Vouga between January/2014 and July/2019.

The increase in life expectancy along with technological advances has translated into a higher number of pituitary adenomas (PA) diagnosed from the age of 65. In the elderly, symptoms related to comorbidities might overlap with endocrine dysfunction, in addition to increasing anesthetic and surgical risks. This study aimed to compare baseline clinical and tumor features between patients with PA from different age groups: younger adults (YA), 18 to 64 years, and older adults (OA), ≥65 years.

Introduction Faster insulin aspart (fASP) is the new formulation of insulin aspart (ASP) with a left-shifted pharmacokinetic profile, allowing better control of early postprandial hyperglycemia and a reduction in the risk of late post-meal hypoglycemia. However, it can be associated with more frequent infusion set changes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate efficacy and safety one, three, and six months after starting fASP in continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) systems.

Although advanced age is one of the main factors associated with greater diabetic foot ulcer severity, there are no studies evaluating diabetic foot ulcer location specifically in the elderly population in an outpatient setting. This study evaluated diabetic foot ulcer location and age-group interactions in diabetic foot presentation.

Background: The ATN scheme was proposed as an unbiased biological characterization of the Alzheimer's disease (AD) spectrum, grouping biomarkers into three categories: brain Amyloidosis-A, Tauopathy-T, Neurodegeneration-N. Although this scheme was mainly recommended for research, it is relevant for diagnosis.
Objective: To evaluate the ATN scheme performance in real-life cohorts reflecting the inflow of patients with cognitive complaints and different underlying disorders in general neurological centers.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness and safety of original (Enbrel®) and biosimilar (Benepali®) etanercept in Biologic Disease-modifying Antirheumatic Drug (bDMARD)-naïve patients, measured by persistence rates over 36 months of follow-up.
Methods: A retrospective multicentre observational study using data collected prospectively from The Rheumatic Diseases Portuguese Registry (Reuma.pt) was performed, including patients with: age ≥ 18 years old; diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) or Spondyloarthritis (SpA) (axial or peripheral) with active disease and biologic-naïve who initiated treatment with etanercept as the first line biological treatment after 2010.
