Background: In 2021, the National Institute of Public Health (INSPQ) (Quebec, Canada), published an update of the palliative and end-of-life care (PEoLC) indicators. Using these updated indicators, this qualitative study aimed to explore the point of view of PEoLC experts on how to improve access and quality of care as well as policies surrounding end-of-life care.
Methods: Semi-directed interviews were conducted with palliative care and policy experts, who were asked to share their interpretations on the updated indicators and their recommendations to improve PEoLC.

Background: Our aim was to assess temporal trends and compare quality indicators related to Palliative and End-of-Life Care (PEoLC) experienced by people dying of cancer (trajectory I), organ-failure (Trajectory II), and frailty/dementia (trajectory III) in Quebec (Canada) between 2002 and 2016.
Methods: This descriptive population-based study focused on the last month of life of decedents who, based on the principal cause of death, would have been likely to benefit from palliative care. Five PEoLC indicators were assessed: home deaths (1), deaths in acute care beds with no PEoLC services (2), at least one Emergency Room (ER) visit in the last 14 days of life (3), ER visits on the day of death (4) and at least one Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission in the last month of life (5).

Background: This study evaluated the efficacy of the selective personality-targeted PreVenture program in reducing cannabis and stimulant use over a 7-year period spanning adolescence and early adulthood.
Methods: A cluster randomized controlled trial was conducted in 14 Australian schools. Schools were randomized to PreVenture, a brief personality-targeted selective intervention, comprising two 90-minute facilitator-led sessions delivered one week apart, or a control group (health education as usual).

Optimizing mammalian cell growth and bioproduction is a tedious task. However, due to the inherent complexity of eukaryotic cells, heuristic experimental approaches such as, metabolic engineering and bioprocess design, are frequently integrated with mathematical models of cell culture to improve biological process efficiency and find paths for improvement. Constraint-based metabolic models have evolved over the last two decades to be used for dynamic modelling in addition to providing a linear description of steady-state metabolic systems.

Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) biosensing is a well-established tool for the investigation of binding kinetics between a soluble species and an immobilized (bio)molecule. While robust and accurate data analysis techniques are readily available for single species, methods to exploit data collected with a solution containing multiple interactants are scarce. In a previous study, our group proposed two data analysis algorithms for (1) the precise and reliable identification of the kinetic parameters of N interactants present at different ratios in N mixtures and (2) the estimation of the composition of a given mixture, assuming that the kinetic parameters and the total concentration of all interactants are known.

The adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviours including age-appropriate amounts of physical activity, limited sedentary and screen time, and healthy eating are the foundations for youth development and thriving. In reviewing extant evidence, we observe that the COVID-19 pandemic has been associated with marked reductions in physical activity, increased sedentary and screen time, and increased food intake and unhealthy snacking. Deleterious effects in movement behaviours appear to be more pronounced among vulnerable groups and food insecurity has become more widespread.

Understanding the fluctuations of observables is one of the main goals in science, be it theoretical or experimental, quantum or classical. We investigate such fluctuations in a subregion of the full system, focusing on geometries with sharp corners. We report that the angle dependence is super-universal: up to a numerical prefactor, this function does not depend on anything, provided the system under study is uniform, isotropic, and correlations do not decay too slowly.

Tumor cells are known to favor a glycolytic metabolism over oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos), which takes place in mitochondria, to produce the energy and building blocks essential for cell maintenance and cell growth. This phenotypic property of tumor cells gives them several advantages over normal cells and is known as the Warburg effect. Tumors can be treated as a metabolic disease by targeting their bioenergetics capacity.

Background: Despite the increased emphasis placed on the use of evidence for policy development, relatively few initiatives have been developed to support evidence-informed decision-making, especially in West Africa. Moreover, studies examining the conditions under which policy-makers use research-based evidence are still scarce, but they show that their attitudes and opinions about research are one of the main determinants of such use. In February 2017, Burkina Faso's Minister of Health planned to create a unit to promote evidence-informed decision-making within the ministry.

Objectives: Painful sexual intercourse (dyspareunia) is a distressing condition affecting a large proportion of gynecological cancer survivors, yet treatments remain limited and poorly studied. This multicenter prospective interventional study examined the feasibility, acceptability and effects of multimodal pelvic floor physical therapy in gynecological cancer survivors with dyspareunia.
Methods: Thirty-one endometrial and cervical cancer survivors with dyspareunia participated in 12 weekly 60-min physical therapy sessions combining education, manual therapy, pelvic floor muscle exercises using biofeedback and home exercises, which included the use of a dilator.

Background: When a family member resides in long term care facility (LTC), family carers continue caregiving and have been found to have decreases in mental health. The aim of My Tools 4 Care - In Care (an online intervention) is to support carers of persons living with dementia residing in LTC through transitions and increase their self-efficacy, hope, social support and mental health. This article comprises the protocol for a study to evaluate My Tools 4 Care-In Care (MT4C-In Care) by asking the following research questions: 1) Is there a 2 month (immediately post-intervention) and 4 month (2 months post-intervention) increase in mental health, general self-efficacy, social support and hope, and decrease in grief and loneliness, in carers of a person living with dementia residing in LTC using MT4C-In CARE compared to an educational control group? 2) Do carers of persons living with dementia residing in LTC perceive My Tools 4 Care- In Care helps them with the transitions they experience?
Methods: This study is a single blinded pragmatic mixed methods randomized controlled trial.

After blood donation, the red blood cells (RBCs) for transfusion are generally isolated by centrifugation and then filtrated and supplemented with additive solution. The consecutive changes of the extracellular environment participate to the occurrence of storage lesions. In this study, the hypothesis is that restoring physiological levels of uric and ascorbic acids (major plasmatic antioxidants) might correct metabolism defects and protect RBCs from the very beginning of the storage period, to maintain their quality.

We argue that dramatic social change arising from collective action does not represent the worst-case scenario for group members. Specifically, we introduce the concept of collective inertia: a societal state where group members face a macro system devoid of clearly articulated collective goals and values coupled with dysfunctional social and normative structures. Our analysis emphasizes the dynamic process of social change, involving a shift from one societal state to another.

Background: Microalgae have been proposed as potential platform to produce lipid-derived products, such as biofuels. Knowledge on the intracellular carbon flow distribution may identify key metabolic processes during lipid synthesis thus refining culture/genetic strategies to maximize cell lipid productivity. A kinetic metabolic model simulating cell metabolic behavior and lipid production was first applied in the microalgae platform Chlorella protothecoides under heterotrophic condition.
