This paper presents a high-performance circularly polarized (CP) magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna optimized for wideband millimeter-wave (mm-wave) frequencies, specifically targeting advancements in 5G and 6G technologies. The CP antenna is excited through a transverse slot in a printed ridge gap waveguide (PRGW), which operates in a quasi-transverse electromagnetic (Q-TEM) mode. Fabricated on Rogers RT 3003 substrate, selected for its low-loss and cost-effective properties at high frequencies, the design significantly enhances both impedance and axial ratio (AR) bandwidths.

Vanadium dioxide (VO) and its unique phase transition from semiconductor to metal near room temperature ( = 68 °C) offer significant potential for applications in smart materials and advanced technologies. This transition is accompanied by a drastic modulation of VO's optical properties in the near- and far-infrared regions. Tungsten (W) has been successfully used as a dopant to lower the transition to room temperature.

We measure the light-driven response of a magnetic multilayer structure made of thin alternating layers of cobalt and platinum at the few-femtosecond timescale. Using attosecond magnetic circular dichroism, we observe how light rearranges the magnetic moment during and after excitation. The results reveal a sub-5 fs spike of magnetization in the platinum layer, which follows the shape of the driving pulse.

In this study, unique BiVO-Au-CuO nanosheets (NSs) are well designed and multiple charge transfer paths are consequently constructed. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurement during a light off-on-off cycle and redox capability tests of the photo-generated charge carriers confirmed the formation of Z-scheme heterojunction, which can facilitate the charge carrier separation and transfer and maintain the original strong redox potentials of the respective component in the heterojunction. The ultrathin 2D structure of the BiVO NSs provided sufficient surface area for the photocatalytic reaction.

InP quantum dots (QDs) are promising building blocks for use in solar technologies because of their low intrinsic toxicity, narrow bandgap, large absorption coefficient, and low-cost solution synthesis. However, the high surface trap density of InP QDs reduces their energy conversion efficiency and degrades their long-term stability. Encapsulating InP QDs into a wider bandgap shell is desirable to eliminate surface traps and improve optoelectronic properties.

Antennas that generate orbital angular momentum (OAM) have the potential to significantly enhance the channel capacity of upcoming wireless systems. This is because different OAM modes that are excited from a shared aperture are orthogonal, which means that each mode can carry a distinct stream of data. As a result, it is possible to transmit multiple data streams at the same time and frequency using a single OAM antenna system.

We have investigated the dissociation mechanisms of the prototypical heavy polar molecule OCS into the two break-up channels of the dication, OCS → O + CS and OC + S, in phase-locked two-color intense laser fields. The branching ratio of the breaking of the C-O and C-S bonds followed a pronounced 2-oscillation with a modulation depth of 11%, depending on the relative phase of the two-color laser fields. The fragment ejection direction of both break-up channels reflects the anisotropy of the tunneling ionization rate, following a 2-periodicity, as well.

Sufficient sunlight absorption and exciton generation are critical for developing efficient nonfullerene organic solar cells (OSCs). In this work, polyelectrolyte polystyrenesulfonate (PSS)-coated plasmonic gold nanorods (GNRs@PSS) were incorporated, for the first time, into the inverted nonfullerene OSCs as rear interfacial modifiers to improve sunlight absorption and charge generation via the near-field plasmonic and backscattering effects. The plasmonic GNRs effectively improved the sunlight absorption and enhanced the charge generation.

Surgeons face great challenges in acquiring high-performance imaging because fluorescence probes with desired thermal stability remains rare. Here, hybrid lead sulfide/zinc sulfide quantum dots (PbS/ZnS QDs) nanostructures emitting in the long-wavelength end of the second near-infrared (NIR-IIb) window were synthesized and conjugated with Ribonuclease-A (RNase A). Such formed RNase A@PbS/ZnS QDs exhibited strong NIR IIb fluorescence and thermal stability, as supported by the photoluminescent emission assessment at different temperatures.

Plasmonic nanocrystals and their assemblies are excellent tools to create functional systems, including systems with strong chiral optical responses. Here we study the possibility of growing chiral plasmonic nanocrystals from strictly nonchiral seeds of different types by using circularly polarized light as the chirality-inducing mechanism. We present a novel theoretical methodology that simulates realistic nonlinear and inhomogeneous photogrowth processes in plasmonic nanocrystals, mediated by the excitation of hot carriers that can drive surface chemistry.

CdSe@CdS Core@shell quantum dots (QDs) have been widely studied in recent years, due to their architecture which allows to tailor properties by controlling structure and composition. However, since CdSe and CdS have the same crystal structure, same cations, and similar lattice parameters, it is very challenging to image the interface. Herein, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, high-angle annular dark-field imaging, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy elemental mapping are combined to characterize the core@shell structure and identify the interface in the CdSe@CdS QDs with different CdS shell thicknesses.

All-inorganic metal halide perovskites have attracted considerable attention due to their high application potentials in optoelectronics, photonics, and energy conversion. Herein, two-dimensional (2D) CsPbBr nanosheets with a thickness of about 3 nm have been synthesized through a simple chemical process based on a hot-injection technique. The lateral dimension of CsPbBr nanosheets ranges from 11 to 110 nm, which can be tuned by adjusting the ratio of short ligands (octanoic acid and octylamine) over long ligands (oleic acid and oleylamine).

This work focuses on the dependence of the features of PbS films deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) subsequent to the variation of the background pressure of helium (P). The morphology of the PLD-PbS films changes from a densely packed and almost featureless structure to a columnar and porous one as the He pressure increases. The average crystallite size related to the (111) preferred orientation increases up to 20 nm for P ≥ 300 mTorr.

Ferroelectric materials may be used as effective photoelectrocatalysts for water splitting due to enhanced charge carrier separation driven by their spontaneous polarization induced internal electric field. Compared to other ferroelectric materials, BiFeO exhibits a high catalytic efficiency due to its comparatively smaller bandgap, which enables light absorption from a large part of the solar spectrum and its higher bulk ferroelectric polarization. Here, we compare the photoelectrochemical properties of three different BiFeO morphologies, namely, nanofibers, nanowebs, and thin films synthesized via electrospinning, directly on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass substrates.
