EGFR status assessment is mandatory for adjuvant decision-making of resected stage IB-IIIA non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NS-NSCLC). It is questionable whether single-gene RT-PCR versus next-generation sequencing (NGS) should be used for this evaluation. Moreover, co-occurring mutations have an impact on tumor behavior and may influence future therapeutic decision-making.

Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is defined by the absence of expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors, as well as the absence of overexpression of HER2. Accounting for 10 to 15% of breast cancers, it remains characterized by an aggressive phenotype with an increased risk of early recurrence and overall survival less favorable compared to other subtypes. The challenges in management and therapeutic evolution are likely related to the demonstrated high biological heterogeneity of this subtype.

Background: Mycosis fungoides (MF) usually has an indolent course. However, some patients develop more aggressive disease and few prognostic parameters have been identified. Isolated cases of pustular MF (pMF) suggest an unfavourable prognosis.

Diffuse paediatric-type high-grade glioma, H3-wildtype and IDH-wildtype (H3/IDH-wt-pHGG) is a newly defined entity amongst brain tumours, primarily reported in children. It is a rare, ill-defined type of tumour and the only method to diagnose it is DNA methylation profiling. The case we report here carries new knowledge about this tumour which may, in fact, occur in elderly patients, be devoid of evocative genomic abnormalities reported in children and harbour a misleading mutation.

Electronic address:

Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common intraocular tumour in adults, with dismal prognosis once metastases develop, since therapeutic options for the metastatic disease are ineffective. Over the past decade, novel cancer therapies based on immunotherapy have changed the landscape of treatment of different forms of cancer leading to many hopes of improvement in patient overall survival (OS). VISTA, LAG-3 and PRAME are novel promising targets of immunotherapy that have recently gained attention in different solid tumours, but whose relevance in UM remained to be comprehensively evaluated until now.

Deciphering the Impact of Alterations on Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer: From Biological Mechanisms to Therapeutic Approaches.

J Pers Med

October 2022

Laboratory of Clinical and Experimental Pathology, Université Côte d'Azur, Pasteur Hospital, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Nice, Biobank BB-0033-00025, 06000 Nice, France.

Despite the recent increase in the number of types of treatments, non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains the major cause of death from cancer worldwide. So, there is an urgent need to develop new therapeutic strategies. The gene codes for tyrosine kinase receptor whose alterations are known to drive carcinogenesis.

Article Synopsis
  • * A Delphi consensus method was used, where a committee of 17 experts drafted 52 statements on managing treatment initiation, adverse effects, special populations, patient communication, and adherence, with 49 statements reaching consensus through voting.
  • * The findings aim to improve side effect management of PARP inhibitors, enhance patient adherence, and maintain quality of life, marking the first Delphi consensus on this topic.

mutations are among the most frequent genomic alterations identified in non-squamous non-small cell lung carcinomas (NS-NSCLC), notably in lung adenocarcinomas. In most cases, these mutations are mutually exclusive, with different genomic alterations currently known to be sensitive to therapies targeting , , , , and . Recently, several promising clinical trials targeting mutations, particularly for -mutated NSCLC, have established new hope for better treatment of patients.

Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common malignant intraocular tumour in the adult population. It is a rare cancer with an incidence of nearly five cases per million inhabitants per year, which develops from the uncontrolled proliferation of melanocytes in the choroid (≈90%), ciliary body (≈6%) or iris (≈4%). Patients initially present either with symptoms like blurred vision or photopsia, or without symptoms, with the tumour being detected in routine eye exams.

Socio-aesthetics has become very popular in recent years. Suffering from a lack of recognition and in the absence of a regulatory framework, it is still too often associated, in a somewhat caricatured way, with softness, relaxation or cocooning. While it is certainly a profession whose vocation is to "cause well-being", this is not its only mission.

[Therapeutic strategies in advanced ALK positive non-small cell lung cancer].

Département d'oncologie multidisciplinaire et Innovations thérapeutiques, Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Marseille, 13354 Marseille, France; Aix Marseille université, CNRS, Inserm, CRCM, 13354 Marseille, France.

Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangement is a therapeutically targetable oncogenic driver found in 5% of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The objective of this paper is to synthesise current knowledge on ALK rearrangement and its impact on the management of advanced NSCLC. Several inhibitors of the tyrosine kinase of ALK (crizotinib, ceritinib, alectinib) have been approved as first line therapies in patients with advanced ALK positive NSCLC, which are associated with a better median progression-free survival than conventional chemotherapy.

Purpose: In oncology clinical trials, nonconformity issues are frequently reported. Radiological workload is increasing, thus reducing radiologists' availability and affecting diagnostic quality. We compared performances of a standard radiological workflow (SW) and a novel "hybrid workflow" (HW).

Image-guided radiation therapy consists in acquiring in-room images to improve patient and mainly tumour set up accuracy. Many devices based on ionising or non-ionising radiations were designed in recent years. The use of such devices is of major importance in the management of patient radiotherapy courses.

Purpose: The current gold standard treatment of localized painful bone lesion is radiotherapy but this technique has limitations. Our study aims to demonstrate that cementoplasty is an efficient alternative for these palliatives indications when lesions involve extraspinal bones. We prospectively followed 20 patients who received a percutaneous cementoplasty on painful lytic bone lesions between May 2008 and May 2010.

Objective: We performed a prospective multicenter study to assess dryness and irritation of hands of staff in care facilities, and to show that disinfection with alcohol-based hand rub is better tolerated than classic hand washing with mild soap.

Method: Dryness and irritation were self-evaluated by volunteers and hetero-evaluated by a team of investigators. The study took into account most of the individual and environmental risk factors of dryness and irritation (season, age, gender, use of protective agent, constitutional, personal and external factors, institution, function, number of consecutive working days).

[Neck dissection following chemoradiation for node positive head and neck carcinomas].

Cancer Radiother

December 2009

Département de radiothérapie, oncologie, centre de lutte contre le cancer Antoine-Lacassagne, 33 avenue Valombrose, Nice cedex 2, France.

The optimal timing and extent of neck dissection in the context of chemoradiation for head and neck cancer remains controversial. For some institutions, it is uncertain whether neck dissection should still be performed upfront especially for cystic nodes. For others, neck dissection can be performed after chemoradiation and can be omitted for N1 disease as long as a complete response to chemoradiation is obtained.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer death in the western world. Even with the significant improvement in traditional chemotherapy, there remain limitations with this treatment. One of the most promising new targets in the treatment of CRC is the epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR).
