Preventive Medication Patterns in Bipolar Disorder and Their Relationship With Comorbid Substance Use Disorders in a Cross-National Observational Study.

Objective: The potential role of sub-optimal pharmacological treatment in the poorer outcomes observed in bipolar disorder (BD) with vs. without comorbid substance use disorders (SUDs) is not known. Thus, we investigated whether patients with BD and comorbid SUD had different medication regimens than those with BD alone, in samples from France and Norway, focusing on compliance to international guidelines.

[Positioning of nurses in Criavs and the role of specialized literature].

The circular of August 8, 2008, which founded the resource centers for those working with perpetrators of sexual violence (Criavs), integrates a multidisciplinary vision including nurses. In an entity that does not function like a traditional medical unit, this role necessarily questions its positioning. In order to build up their skills, Criavs nurses will have to call upon all the information available to them, of which the specialized literature is an integral part.

The impact of school-based screening on service use in adolescents at risk for mental health problems and risk-behaviour.

Early detection and intervention can counteract mental disorders and risk behaviours among adolescents. However, help-seeking rates are low. School-based screenings are a promising tool to detect adolescents at risk for mental problems and to improve help-seeking behaviour.

Experiences of parents and patients hospitalised in a child psychiatric unit for anorexia nervosa after reorganisation of care imposed by the COVID-19 Pandemic in France: a qualitative study-The QUALICOVID study.

Background: Anorexia nervosa is a serious, albeit common mental illness that generally occurs during adolescence. Although outpatient care is recommended, hospitalisation is sometimes required. There is a dedicated hospitalisation unit caring for children and adolescents presenting with anorexia nervosa in Nancy, France.

Benefit of cognitive behavioral therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorders in Huntington's disease: a case report.

We describe the management of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD), through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in a Huntington's disease (HD) patient.Even with a psychopharmacological treatment to manage PTSD and OCD, psychiatric disorders remained in the HD patient. We proposed CBT essentially based on progressive exposure.

Online SPE UPLC-MS/MS method for the simultaneous determination of 33 psychoactive drugs from swab-collected human oral fluid samples.

Oral fluid is easy and safe to collect and allows the detection of drugs of abuse after local exposure by oral, smoked, and/or inhaled intake, or systemic exposure. A routine online solid-phase extraction UPLC-MS/MS method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 33 psychoactive drugs in oral fluid. The selected drugs were fourteen fentanyl analogs and nineteen other abused psychoactive compounds, including classical narcotics, which were analyzed in a run of 10 min.

Telomere length and mitochondrial DNA copy number in bipolar disorder: identification of a subgroup of young individuals with accelerated cellular aging.

The 10-15-years decrease in life expectancy observed in individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) has been linked to the concept of accelerated cellular aging. Telomere length (TL) and mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn) have been proposed as markers of cellular aging and comparisons between individuals with BD and healthy controls (HC) sometimes led to conflicting results. Previous studies had moderate sample sizes and studies combining these two markers into a single analysis are scarce.

Determinants of total incapacity to work duration among 231 victims of school violence in France.

Introduction: This study aimed to identify the factors that may influence the duration of the total incapacity to work (TIW) among victims of school violence from the perspective of clinical forensics practice.

Methods: It used a cross-sectional design to collect data from school violence victims examined at a French forensic unit following a judicial requisition. Logistic regression models were used to identify whether the victim's characteristics, the circumstances of the violence, or the evaluation itself could predict a TIW duration equal to or greater than 2 days.

Retinal electroretinogram features can detect depression state and treatment response in adults: A machine learning approach.

Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a major public health problem. The retina is a relevant site to indirectly study brain functioning. Alterations in retinal processing were demonstrated in MDD with the pattern electroretinogram (PERG).

The mood disorder spectrum vs. schizophrenia decision tree: EDIPHAS research into the childhood and adolescence of 205 patients.

Background: The early detection of patients at risk of developing schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and more broadly mood spectrum disorder, is a public health concern. The phenotypical overlap between the prodromes in these disorders calls for a simultaneous investigation into both illness trajectories.

Method: This is an epidemiological, retrospective, multicentre, descriptive study conducted in the Grand-Est region of France in order to describe and compare early symptoms in 205 patients: 123 of which were diagnosed with schizophrenia and 82 with bipolar disorder or mood spectrum disorder.

Case Report: Atonic PNES Capture in fMRI.

Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES) are a misunderstood and disabling pathology, characterized by a paroxysmal occurrence of clinical signs without the epileptic activity. Resting-state functional MRI (fMRI) studies in patients with PNES have shown abnormal functional connectivity of the resting-state networks, especially in the limbic and motor systems, and in the precuneus. However, the transient nature of PNES episodes prevents us from elucidating the underlying mechanisms of seizures.

Using polygenic scores and clinical data for bipolar disorder patient stratification and lithium response prediction: machine learning approach.

Background: Response to lithium in patients with bipolar disorder is associated with clinical and transdiagnostic genetic factors. The predictive combination of these variables might help clinicians better predict which patients will respond to lithium treatment.

Aims: To use a combination of transdiagnostic genetic and clinical factors to predict lithium response in patients with bipolar disorder.

Validation of the French Version of the Positivity Scale (P Scale).

Background: The purpose of this study is to assess the psychometric properties of the French version of the Positivity scale (P scale), a self-report measure of positivity, which is the tendency to view and address life and experience with a positive outlook. Positivity is seen as a latent factor underlying multiple cognitive concepts such as self-esteem, life satisfaction, and optimism.

Methods: We recruited 666 volunteers (540 women and 126 men).

Health-related quality of life in outpatients with substance use disorder: evolution over time and associated factors.

Background: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is an important element of patient care and clinical research. The aim of this study was to describe HRQoL changes and identify associated factors during a 6-month follow-up of outpatients starting care for alcohol or opioid dependence.

Methods: HRQoL was measured at baseline and 3 and 6 months later using the SF-12.

Self-Reported Pain and Emotional Reactivity in Bipolar Disorder: A Prospective FACE-BD Study.

In patients with bipolar disorder (BD), pain prevalence is close to 30%. It is important to determine whether pain influences BD course and to identify factors associated with pain in BD in order to guide BD management. This naturalistic, prospective study used data on 880 patients with BD from the French FACE-BD cohort who were divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of pain.

Factors associated with family involvement in a family-centered care program among incarcerated French adolescents with conduct disorder.

Purpose: This study aims to identify the patient characteristics that may influence family involvement in a family-centered care program during detention.

Design/methodology/approach: Little is known about the needs of incarcerated adolescents and their families. This exploratory study used a cross-sectional design to collect data from incarcerated adolescents with conduct disorder followed in a French outpatient psychiatric department.

Association between childhood maltreatment and the clinical course of bipolar disorders: A survival analysis of mood recurrences.

Objectives: Childhood maltreatment, also referred as childhood trauma, increases the severity of bipolar disorders (BD). Childhood maltreatment has been associated with more frequent mood recurrences, however, mostly in retrospective studies. Since scarce, further prospective studies are required to identify whether childhood maltreatment may be associated with the time to recurrence in BD.

Objective: Sex disparity is a major societal issue. The aim of this paper was to describe changes in the representation of women among speakers of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) annual meeting over 10 years, between 2009 and 2019 and to compare them to changes in the proportion of women among American psychiatrists.

Methods: Data were collected from the programs of the APA annual meetings of 2009 and 2019, and from the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Postictal psychosis, a cause of secondary affective psychosis: A clinical description study of 77 patients.

Objective: Postictal psychosis (PIP) is a severe complication occurring at least in 2% of patients with epilepsy. Since the 19th century, psychiatrists have reported the specificity of PIP presentation, but descriptions did not clearly distinguish PIP from after-seizure delirium. This study aimed to provide a precise description of psychiatric signs occurring during PIP, and improve recognition of PIP.

Using retinal electrophysiology toward precision psychiatry.

Precision medicine in psychiatry is based on the identification of homogeneous subgroups of patients with the help of biosignatures-sets of biomarkers-in order to enhance diagnosis, stratification of patients, prognosis, evaluation, and prediction of treatment response. Within the broad domain of biomarker discovery, we propose retinal electrophysiology as a tool for identification of biosignatures. The retina is a window to the brain and provides an indirect access to brain functioning in psychiatric disorders.

Functional MRI-based study of emotional experience in patients with psychogenic non-epileptic seizures: Protocol for an observational case-control study-EMOCRISES study.

Background: Psychogenic non epileptic seizures (PNES) are a frequent, disabling and costly disorder for which there is no consensual caring. They are considered as a dissociative disorder and they share many common characteristics with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Nevertheless, their pathophysiology is still unclear.
