We report that in birch leaf pectin, rhamnogalacturonan-I (RG-I) and galacturonan (HG) were found as separate polymers rather than domains of a complex macromolecule. RG-I and HG were separated by anion-exchange and size-exclusion chromatography and studied by using NMR spectroscopy. NMR spectra showed that methyl-esterified D-galactosyluronic acid residues were located only in HG.

The gasotransmitter hydrogen sulfide (HS) is an important biological mediator, playing an essential role in many physiological and pathological processes. It is produced by transsulfuration - an evolutionarily highly conserved pathway for the metabolism of sulfur-containing amino acids methionine and cysteine. Cystathionine-β-synthase (CBS) and cystathionine-γ-lyase (CSE) enzymes play a central role in cysteine metabolism and HS production.

Purpose: The concept of time perspective (TP) implies that a mental focus on past, present, or future affect a person makes decisions and take action. Inability to plan their life for a sufficiently long time perspective due to the COVID-19 pandemic appeared to have a pronounced impact on a human's lifestyle influencing their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, including eating behavior. This study tested two hypotheses: (a) that during COVID-19 isolation, the incidence rate of food addiction is increased, and (b) people with present TP are more likely exhibited signs of food addiction (FA).

Elucidating the causes of variability in food texture sensitivity is important for understanding the mechanisms underlying food choice and portion size, eating rates, and enjoyment of food. Since texture perception significantly affects eating behavior, it is assumed that ability to recognize food texture, in turn, may depend on eating behavior. of the study was to elucidate the relationship between the ability to recognize the hardness of an agar-gelatin gel, on the one hand, and the nutritional value of the diet, the type of eating behavior and the level of hunger and satiety feelings, on the other hand.

The micromechanical methods, among which optical trapping and atomic force microscopy have a special place, are widespread currently in biology to study molecular interactions between different biological objects. Optical trapping is reported to be quite applicable to study the mechanical properties of surface structures onto bacterial (pili and flagella) and eukaryotic (filopodia) cells. The review briefly summarizes the physical basis of optical trapping, as well as the principles of calculating the van der Waals, electrostatic, and donor-acceptor forces when two microparticles or a microparticle and a flat surface are used.

Neuronal cell death at late stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD) causes the release of cytosolic proteins. One of the most abundant such proteins, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), forms stable aggregates with extracellular amyloid-β (Aβ). We detect these aggregates in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from AD patients at levels directly proportional to the progressive stages of AD.
