Introduction: The significant increase in the emergence of notable zoonotic viruses in the previous decades has become a serious concern to global public health. Ninety-nine percent of infectious diseases have originated from zoonotic viruses with immense potential for dissemination, infecting the susceptible population completely lacking herd immunity.

Areas Covered: Zoonotic viruses appear in the last two decades as a major health threat either newly evolved or previously present with elevated prevalence in the last few years are selected to explain their current prophylactic measures.

Delay in wound healing is a diabetes mellites resulting disorder causing persistent microbial infections, pain, and poor quality of life. To delineate the genetic bases of primary congenital glaucoma (PCG), we ascertained a large cohort consisting of 48 consanguineous families. Of these, we previously reported 26 families with mutations in CYP1B1 and six families with LTBP2, whereas the genetic bases responsible for PCG in 16 families remained elusive. We employed next-generation whole exome sequencing to delineate the genetic basis of PCG in four of these 16 familial cases.

In nature, fungal endophytes often have facultative endohyphal bacteria (FEB). Can a model plant pathogenic fungus have them, and does it affect their phenotype? We constructed a growth system/microcosm to allow an isolate to grow through natural soil and then re-isolated it on a gentamicin-containing medium, allowing endohyphal growth of bacteria while killing other bacteria. PH-1 labelled with a gene staining the fungal nuclei fluorescent red was used to confirm the re-isolation of the fungus.

Here we report a consanguineous Pakistani family with multiple affected individuals with autosomal recessive congenital cataract (arCC). Exclusion analysis established linkage to chromosome 22q, and Sanger sequencing coupled with PCR-based chromosome walking identified a large homozygous genomic deletion. Quercetin (Qu) is a natural flavonoid present in many commonly consumed food items and is also identified as a potential anticancer agent. The present study evaluates the Qu-loaded polymeric mixed micelles (Qu-PMMs) against C6 and U87MG glioma cell lines. In this study we have provided forensic genetic data of 22 autosomal STRs for Pakhtun, Balochi and Balti population of Pakistan in total of 601 samples. Among these loci, Penta E was found the most discriminatory in all groups and allele 15 was observed most frequent at D22S1045 in Balti whereas in other two populations allele 8 was more common at TPOX. Rapidly mutating Y-chromosomal short tandem repeats (RM Y STRs) with mutation rates ≥ 10 per locus per generation are valuable for differentiating amongst male paternal relatives where standard Y STRs with mutation rates of ≤10 per locus per generation may not. Although the 13 RM Y STRs commonly found in commercial assays provide higher levels of paternal lineage differentiation than conventional Y STRs, there are many male paternal relatives that still cannot be differentiated. This can be improved by increasing the number of Y STRs or choosing those with high mutation rates.
