Improving the biomass and nutritional quality of is important for its breeding and resource conservation, but there are few studies on the effects of high altitude on its biomass and quality. In this study, 27 varieties of were cultivated both at 1600 m and 150 m altitudes to investigate the effect of different altitudes in the biomass and quality traits of . At high altitude, all varieties exhibited decreased picking period, reduced fresh and dry weights, diminished stem length and diameter, as well as lowered nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and kalium (K) contents.

Estuaries are subjected to continual environmental impacts from activities in the catchment areas. This research assessed the quality of two estuarine habitats located in Ilha do Maranhão, Brazil, through histological and genotoxic biomarkers in Centropomus undecimalis, comparing the data obtained to metal, physical, and chemical concentrations of water samples. The gill histological alterations were analyzed by the histological alteration index and genotoxic lesions in erythrocytes were detected by the Micronucleus Test.

Fruit fly sexual behaviour is directly influenced by chemical and non-chemical cues that play important roles in reproductive isolation. The chemical profiles of pheromones and cuticular hydrocarbons (CHs) of eight fruit fly populations of the Andean, Brazilian-1 and Brazilian-3 morphotypes of the Anastrepha fraterculus cryptic species complex originating from Colombia (four populations) and Brazil (four populations) were analysed using two-dimensional gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection. The resulting chemical diversity data were studied using principal component analyses.

Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) as a system for the detection of amino acids, organic acids, sugars, sugar alcohols, and fatty acids, we characterised six commercial potato cultivars (Hópehely, Katica, Lorett, Somogyi kifli, Vénusz Gold, and White Lady) with different pedigrees, starch contents, cooking types, and dormancy periods, in five developmental stages from harvest to sprouting. A highly significant quantitative trait locus (QTL) on pig chromosome 6, affecting intramuscular fat (IMF), has previously been detected by our group and others. Two genes of positional and biological interest, the small heterodimer partner (SHP; NR0B2) and the heart fatty acid binding protein (FABP3; H-FABP), were investigated for meat quality traits and IMF respectively. Demand for organically grown fruit, including sour cherry, is rising in Europe and the United States, but the limited tools for disease management have not been thoroughly investigated. In this study, management of brown rot blossom blight, caused by Monilinia laxa, was examined for organic sour cherry production in Hungary. Overwintering of conidia of Venturia inaequalis associated with shoots and buds was determined, and the contribution to early spring epidemics of apple scab was evaluated during three consecutive seasons (1999 to 2001) in the Netherlands. Examinations of shoot samples collected before bud break showed that the percentage of shoots with superficial black fungal mycelia or conidia was above 65%, and the mean number of conidia on a 1-cm piece of shoot length ranged from 581 to 1,033. However, germination tests showed that the viability of conidia on shoots was less than 1.
