Return to work after primary total knee replacement in patients under 55 years of age: a retrospective study of 129 cases.

Introduction: Primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has shown excellent results in the treatment of osteoarthritis, and its indications have now been extended to younger patients of working age. Few articles in the literature have studied the return to work of young subjects, and no specific studies have been conducted in France. Therefore, we carried out a retrospective study to 1) investigate the rate and delay of return to work after primary TKA in a population under 55 years of age and 2) identify factors influencing early return to work before 3 months, the period usually used as the duration of initial work stoppage (TS).

Aarskog-Scott syndrome: a clinical study based on a large series of 111 male patients with a pathogenic variant in and management recommendations.

Background: Aarskog-Scott syndrome (AAS) is a rare condition with multiple congenital anomalies, caused by hemizygote variants in the gene. Its description was based mostly on old case reports, in whom a molecular diagnosis was not always available, or on small series. The aim of this study was to better delineate the phenotype and the natural history of AAS and to provide clues for the diagnosis and the management of the patients.

How to Teach Clinical Reasoning in the Context of Rare Diseases in Undergraduate Medical Education.

While rare diseases are individually rare, they are collectively common. Physicians are likely to see patients presenting with rare diseases during their medical practice. Despite the fact that rare diseases present diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, they are not sufficiently addressed by undergraduate medical curricula.

Re-rupture rate and complications after percutaneous Tenolig® repair in acute midsubstance rupture of Achilles tendon.

Purpose: Acute midsubstance Achilles tendon ruptures are the most common tendon injuries in adults and the choice of surgical technique is still debated. The objective of this study is to evaluate the rate of iterative ruptures and postoperative complications at a minimum follow-up of one year of percutaneous sutures of the Achilles tendon, as well as to investigate the risk factors for rupture.

Methods: In this single-center retrospective study, 142 patients (119 men and 23 women, mean age of 46 years) were reviewed at a mean follow-up of 24 (12-38) months.

Background: Oximetry was proposed as an abbreviated exam, easily accepted by the child, for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) for children located in regions where access to pediatric sleep labs is limited. The objective of this study was to determine the diagnostic value of the oxygen desaturation index (ODI), the number of ≥ 3% oxygen desaturations per hour of recording, obtained by portable oximetry performed in parallel with video-polysomnography (PSG), in a cohort of children, with and without comorbidities, referred for OSA.

Methods: Data from portable oximetry performed in parallel with PSG were prospectively collected.

Introduction: Lipodystrophy syndromes are rare diseases characterized by a generalized or partial lipoatrophic morphotype and metabolic complications. Data on health-related quality of life and impact of genetic lipodystrophy on social or psychological well-being are lacking.

Patients And Methods: Patients with genetic lipodystrophy were recruited throughout the French national reference network for rare diseases of insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity.

Evaluating the added-value of video recording in respiratory polygraphy for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea in children.

Polysomnography (PSG) is the gold standard for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in children but not always available. Abbreviated exams exist, such as respiratory polygraphy (RP), but are less accurate for OSA diagnosis. Video recording (video-RP) may provide a more precise estimation of the total sleep time (TST) compared to RP alone.

Catheter Ablation or Antiarrhythmic Drugs for Ventricular Tachycardia.

Background: Patients with ventricular tachycardia and ischemic cardiomyopathy are at high risk for adverse outcomes. Catheter ablation is commonly used when antiarrhythmic drugs do not suppress ventricular tachycardia. Whether catheter ablation is more effective than antiarrhythmic drugs as a first-line therapy in patients with ventricular tachycardia is uncertain.

Long-term real world evidence of CPX-351 of high-risk AML patients identified high rate of negative MRD and prolonged OS.

CPX-351 has been approved for patients with therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML) or AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (MRC-AML). No extensive data are available on MRD and long-term clinical outcome using CPX-351 in AML in real-life. We retrospectively collected data from 168 patients in 36 centers in France and Italy who had received one or two cycles of induction with CPX-351.

Glenoid morphology variation between patients with hypermobile shoulder joints and controls: Identification of hyperlaxity-related morphologic bone changes.

Objective: Our study aims to quantitatively determine the concavity of the glenoid articular surface in patients with hypermobile shoulders compared to those without.

Method: We examined medical records of shoulder CTs from 2017 to 2022, selecting 50 patients with clinical signs of joint hypermobility for our case group and 54 for our control group. Two blinded readers independently assessed the glenoid morphology, calculating the glenoid concavity angle (GCA) and evaluating the articular surface shape as concave, flat, or convex.

Efficacy and safety of daratumumab in multiresistant immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.

The immunosuppressive treatment of immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP) in patients with intolerance or refractoriness to the B-cell depleting monoclonal antibody rituximab remains debated. Daratumumab, a plasma cell-directed monoclonal antibody targeting CD38, represents a therapeutic option, but data are scarce. The French Thrombotic Microangiopathies Reference Center conducted a nationwide survey on iTTP patients treated with daratumumab.

Development and evaluation of an algorithm for peripheral venous catheter placement (ALCOV): protocol for a quasi-experimental study.

Introduction: Multiple punctures during peripheral venous catheter (PVC) placement increase the risk of complications. Scoring for adult difficult intravenous access (A-DIVA Scale) exists but has never been assessed in the framework of a care algorithm (scoring associated with a new decision-making tree for puncture conditions, the A-DIVA Tree). We seek to implement an catheter placement algorithm to decrease the mean number of punctures per patient.

Clinical features and treatment outcomes of bone and joint nontuberculous mycobacterial infections according to immune status: a 9-year retrospective observational cohort.

Objectives: Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) bone and joint infections (BJIs) are uncommon. We evaluated the characteristics of BJIs and identified differences according to immune status.

Methods: We performed a multicenter retrospective study in France involving patients with documented NTM BJI over a 9-year period.

Traction-assisted endoscopic submucosal dissection for resection of ileocecal valve neoplasia: a French retrospective multicenter case series.

Background: The ileocecal valve (ICV) is considered to be one of the most difficult locations for endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of traction-assisted ESD in this situation.

Methods: All patients who underwent traction-assisted ESD for an ICV lesion at three centers were identified from a prospective ESD database.

Persistent and symptomatic periodic breathing beyond the neonatal period in full-term infants: A case series.

Introduction: Periodic breathing (PB) is considered physiological in the neonatal period and usually disappears in the first months of life. There are few data available on persistent PB after the neonatal period. The objective of this study was to characterize infants born at term with persistent PB after the age of 1 month through polysomnography (PSG) performed during symptoms.

Machine learning based analysis and detection of trend outliers for electromyographic neuromuscular monitoring.

Purpose: Neuromuscular monitoring is frequently plagued by artefacts, which along with the frequent unawareness of the principles of this subtype of monitoring by many clinicians, tends to lead to a cynical attitute by clinicians towards these monitors. As such, the present study aims to derive a feature set and evaluate its discriminative performance for the purpose of Train-of-Four Ratio (TOF-R) outlier analysis during continuous intraoperative EMG-based neuromuscular monitoring.

Methods: Patient data was sourced from two devices: (1) Datex-Ohmeda Electromyography (EMG) E-NMT: a dataset derived from a prospective observational trial including 136 patients (21,891 TOF-R observations), further subdivided in two based on the type of features included; and (2) TetraGraph: a clinical case repository dataset of 388 patients (97,838 TOF-R observations).

Management of fixed flexion contracture in primary total knee arthroplasty: recent systematic review.

Introduction: This study aimed to systematically review the literature and identify the surgical management strategy for fixed flexion contracture in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) surgery, pre-, intra-, and post-operatively. Secondary endpoints were etiologies and factors favoring flexion contracture.
