The psychosocial age: a tool to reduce the institutional stigma of elderly people with mental disorders.

In line with previous studies on elderly with mental disorders discrimination, a concept called "Psychosocial age" has been methodologically formalized and mathematically modelized. Its aim is to support health providers and hinder stigmatization process which is influenced by social representations of our population. This article presents the construction of this indicator and its clinical implications.

Ethanol (EtOH)-Related Behaviors in α-Synuclein Mutant Mice and Association of SNCA SNPs with Anxiety in EtOH-Dependent Patients.

Background: Data have shown a role of α-synuclein in anxiety and also in addiction, particularly in alcohol use disorders (AUD). Since the comorbidity between AUD and anxiety is very high and because anxiety is an important factor in ethanol (EtOH) relapse, the aim of the present study was to investigate the role of α-synuclein in moderating EtOH intake, the anxiolytic effects of EtOH, and EtOH withdrawal-induced anxiety and convulsions in mice. The study aimed to determine whether SNCA variants moderated anxiety in EtOH-dependent patients.

Originally developed to treat malformations and disabling physical mutilations, rapid advances were made after the First World War. Today, 90% of French people would undergo reconstructive surgery in the event of significant physical impairment.

Palliative care remains associated with images of death and generates fears. It is difficult to envisage supporting patients at the end of life anywhere other than in specialised places. With situations of critical care, professionals and volunteers use their complementary skills to work together in caring for the patient.

Nursing students approach their first encounter with another person's body and its care through the pedagogy and active methods used in training. The pedagogical support must answer the questions raised by the role plays and simulations and take into account the theoretical and practical prerequisites and any apprehensions expressed before students start their first practice placement.
