Background: The 2 × 2 PEACE-1 study showed that combining androgen-deprivation therapy with docetaxel and abiraterone improved overall and radiographic progression-free survival in patients with de novo metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer. We aimed to examine the efficacy and safety of adding radiotherapy in this population.

Methods: We conducted an open-label, randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial with a 2 × 2 factorial design (PEACE-1) at 77 hospitals across Europe.

Dieterich's disease or avascular osteonecrosis of the metacarpal head is rare and not often described in the literature. It affects typically the middle of metacarpal bones and can occur at all age groups. A case of a teenager with chronic pain of the third and fourth metacarpal head is presented.

Cabozantinib plus atezolizumab versus sorafenib for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (COSMIC-312): final results of a randomised phase 3 study.

Background: The aim of the COSMIC-312 trial was to evaluate cabozantinib plus atezolizumab versus sorafenib in patients with previously untreated advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. In the initial analysis, cabozantinib plus atezolizumab significantly prolonged progression-free survival versus sorafenib. Here, we report the pre-planned final overall survival analysis and updated safety and efficacy results following longer follow-up.

Background & Aims: Whether severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is a risk factor for splanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT) is unknown. This study aims to assess the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the presentation and prognosis of recent SVT and to identify specific characteristics of SARS-CoV-2-associated SVT.

Methods: This is a retrospective study collecting health-related data of 27 patients presenting with recent SVT in the context of SARS-CoV-2 infection in 12 Vascular Liver Disease Group (VALDIG) centres and in comparison with 494 patients with recent SVT before the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

A model for individualized prediction of liver-related death in outpatients with alcohol-associated cirrhosis.

Introduction: In alcohol-associated cirrhosis, an accurate estimate of the risk of death is essential for patient care. We developed individualized prediction charts for 5-year liver-related mortality among outpatients with alcohol-associated cirrhosis that take into account the impact of abstinence.

Methods: We collected data on outpatients with alcohol-associated cirrhosis in a prospective registry.

Quantification of primary mitral regurgitation by echocardiography: A practical appraisal.

The accurate quantification of primary mitral regurgitation (MR) and its consequences on cardiac remodeling is of paramount importance to determine the best timing for surgery in these patients. The recommended echocardiographic grading of primary MR severity relies on an integrated multiparametric approach. It is expected that the large number of echocardiographic parameters collected would offer the possibility to check the measured values regarding their congruence in order to conclude reliably on MR severity.

Endoscopic Ultrasound-guided Radiofrequency Ablation Versus Surgical Resection for Treatment of Pancreatic Insulinoma.

Background & Aims: Endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (EUS-RFA) is emerging as a safe and effective treatment for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. We aimed to compare EUS-RFA and surgical resection for the treatment of pancreatic insulinoma (PI).

Methods: Patients with sporadic PI who underwent EUS-RFA at 23 centers or surgical resection at 8 high-volume pancreatic surgery institutions between 2014 and 2022 were retrospectively identified and outcomes compared using a propensity-matching analysis.
