The diagnosis of primary hyperaldosteronism (PHPA) has progressively increased over the last years and some authors consider it as the main cause of secondary hypertension. We studied the prevalence of PHPA in hypertensive patients followed at the Hypertension Unit from July 1999 to July 2017. A total of 2500 patients were included and diagnosis of PHPA was done in 79 of them (3.

Unlabelled: We report a rare case of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) secondary to a primary Epstein-Barr (EBV) infection, in a 22-year-old male. Symptomatic infectious mononucleosis and ADEM are both quite uncommon conditions in this age group.
Learning Points: ADEM is a very rare CNS disorder; it is more common in childhood but can also be described in adults.

Unlabelled: We report a case of brainstem infarction following a C5-C6 cervical transforaminal injection, a rare and serious neurological complication of this procedure. Cervical transforaminal steroid injection is a common therapy for patients with persistent cervical radiculopathy not relieved by conservative treatment, and is effective in 65-70% of cases. Unfortunately, this procedure may lead to serious complications such as neurological damage.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is strongly related to the in-hospital and short-term prognosis in patients with cardiovascular diseases needing surgical or invasive interventions. How T2DM might influence the treatment of aortic stenosis (AS) has not been completely elucidated for surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The aims of this study were: (1) to describe the use of aortic valve replacement procedures (TAVI and SAVR) among hospitalized patients with and without T2DM; and (2) to identify factors associated with in hospital mortality (IHM) among patients undergoing these procedures.

Background: Our objectives were to describe and compare trends in the incidence of hospitalization for atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with and without chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Spain during 2004-2013 and to assess the effect of COPD on the in-hospital mortality (IHM) of patients with AF.
Methods: We performed a retrospective study using the Spanish National Hospital Discharge Database. The study population comprised patients≥40years with a primary diagnosis of AF.

This study is a review of the literature on Zarate's partial subcutaneous symphysiotomy. Unfortunately, this operation is now forgotten since many obstetricians in western countries and even those of developing countries feel that symphysiotomy is an obsolete obstetric procedure. Partial subcutaneous symphysiotomy is an operation intended to widen the maternal pelvis in order to enable vaginal delivery in the presence of moderate feto-pelvic disproportion.

We report a case of spontaneous rupture of unscarred uterus, during labour and under epidural analgesia in a 43 year-old patient at her third pregnancy and third delivery. The tear was vertical and took place on the left postero-lateral side of the uterus, occurring in the whole height of the lower segment and overlapping towards the uterine corpus and cervix. Analysis of medical, surgical, gynaecological and obstetrical past history has displayed no predisposing factors explaining this rare occurrence.
