Let's "game" it!: Dangerous games, a new health challenge.

In the past several years, children and adolescents have increasingly been enticed into playing dangerous and challenging games, particularly through social networks. Epidemiological data regarding this phenomenon are particularly difficult to come by, as is information regarding the somatic and psychological consequences of these activities, which can end up having fatal outcomes. We here report the case of a suspicion of child abuse that turned out to be due to participation in a challenge game known as "The Deodorant Challenge" by a 10-year-old child who presented with burn-like lesions.

Shaping tomorrow: how the STEP training course pioneered noninvasive brain stimulation training for psychiatry in France.

Over the past three decades, non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques have gained worldwide attention and demonstrated therapeutic potential in various medical fields, particularly psychiatry. The emergence of these novel techniques has led to an increased need for robust training programs to provide practitioners, whether clinicians or scientists, with the necessary skills and knowledge. In response, a comprehensive training curriculum for NIBS in psychiatry has been developed in France.

Cognitive effort increases the intensity of rewards.

An important body of literature suggests that exerting intense cognitive effort causes mental fatigue and can lead to unhealthy behaviors such as indulging in high-calorie food and taking drugs. Whereas this effect has been mostly explained in terms of weakening cognitive control, cognitive effort may also bias behavioral choices by amplifying the hedonic and emotional impact of rewards. We report parallel findings with animals and humans supporting this hypothesis.

[Women's particular pulmonary susceptibility to tobacco: the example of COPD].

THE EXAMPLE OF COPD . Women are more susceptible to the harmful effects of smoking than men, even with moderate exposure, and this vulnerability begins in childhood. The prevalence of smoking has even increased, in certain age groups of women, in France between 2019 and 2021.

Investigating brain structure and tDCS response in obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterized by intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors, with associated brain abnormalities in various regions. This study explores the correlation between neural biomarkers and the response to transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in OCD patients. Using structural MRI data from two tDCS trials involving 55 OCD patients and 28 controls, cortical thickness, and gray matter morphometry was analyzed.

[How can we prevent teenage smoking ?].

Smoking rates in Europe are falling steadily among teenagers. The main reasons why young people start smoking are highlighted. Preventing young people from starting to smoke is based on a combination of three approaches: firstly, interventions in schools, incorporating educational programs from an early age; secondly, comprehensive tobacco control measures, such as bans on sales to minors and higher taxes on tobacco products; -thirdly, targeted communication campaigns.

Treating refractory obsessive compulsive disorder with cathodal transcranial direct current stimulation over the supplementary motor area: a large multisite randomized sham-controlled double-blind study.

Background: The present study evaluated the therapeutic efficacy and tolerability of 10 transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) sessions in treatment-resistance obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients using a multisite double-blind sham-controlled design.

Methods: Eighty treatment-resistance outpatients suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder were randomized to receive either active or sham transcranial direct current stimulation. The cathode was positioned over the supplementary motor area and the anode over the right supraorbital area.

In the context of smoking cessation, the shared educational assessment (BEP) enables us to assess the smoker's needs, define specific objectives and set up appropriate educational workshops. This multidisciplinary approach helps smokers to maintain their smoking cessation. The BEP is the first step in the educational process, exploring the various classic dimensions of therapeutic patient education (TPE) and then defining an action plan based on the priorities identified.

Is intimate partner sexual violence a singular violence?

Objective: This study aims to examine the specificities of intimate partner sexual violence among heterosexual partners, as well as to contrast them to the sexual violence perpetrated by strangers or acquaintances.

Method: A narrative review was conducted to identify relevant findings in the scientific and medical literature to inform about intimate partner sexual violence. Findings were also analysed with the lens of the clinical experience of the authors working with men convicted of intimate partner sexual violence.

Neurological soft signs as trait markers of a subset of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder with low insight and altered cognitive abilities.

Neurological soft signs (NSS) are subtle motor control impairments that include involuntary movements and abnormalities of motor coordination, sensory integration and lateralization. They engage different brain networks, including the prefrontal networks that support the higher cognitive functions that are dysfunctional in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This study investigated the relationships between the presence of NSS and patients' severity of OCD symptoms, insight, and treatment resistance in a sample of 63 patients.

Delay of punishment highlights differential vulnerability to developing addiction-like behavior toward sweet food.

Resistance to punishment is commonly used to measure the difficulty in refraining from rewarding activities when negative consequences ensue, which is a hallmark of addictive behavior. We recently developed a progressive shock strength (PSS) procedure in which individual rats can titrate the amount of punishment that they are willing to tolerate to obtain food rewards. Here, we investigated the effects of a range of delays (0-12 s) on resistance to punishment measured by PSS break points.

Insomnia and parasomnia induced by validated smoking cessation pharmacotherapies and electronic cigarettes: a network meta-analysis.

We aim to assess the relationship between validated smoking cessation pharmacotherapies and electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) and insomnia and parasomnia using a systematic review and a network meta-analysis. A systematic search was performed until August 2022 in the following databases: PUBMED, COCHRANE, CLINICALTRIAL. Randomized controlled studies against placebo or validated therapeutic smoking cessation methods and e-cigarettes in adult smokers without unstable or psychiatric comorbidity were included.

[Tobacco and tuberculosis: the nature of the links and the consequences of this association].

Tuberculosis and smoking are responsible for significant mortality worldwide. Smoking is spreading in emerging countries, and its prevalence is high in developed countries among socially disadvantaged populations; it could be the source of a resurgence of tuberculosis in future years. The aim of this review is to clarify the consequences of the association between smoking and tuberculosis, and the benefits of smoking cessation for smokers with tuberculosis.

Therapeutic Effects of Tamsulosin in Nightmare Disorder: A Randomized, Double Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Cross-Over, Pilot Study.

Nightmare disorder is associated with functional impairment, distress, and low quality of life; however, studies on pharmacotherapy of this debilitating disorder yielded mixed results. Prazosin, a non-selective α blocker is reported to be effective in treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder-related nightmares. We aimed at investigating therapeutic effects of tamsulosin which has higher affinity for blocking α and α adrenoceptors in treatment of nightmare disorder.

Functioning, clinical severity, education and sex moderate the inverse relationship between insight and quality of life in patients with schizophrenia.

Background: In schizophrenia, insight, the recognition that one has a medical illness that requires treatment, has long been related to deteriorated quality of life, a phenomenon that has been described as the "insight paradox". Here, we aimed to determine whether certain socio-demographic and clinical characteristics strengthen or weaken this negative relationship.
