Exploring and targeting potential druggable antimicrobial resistance targets ArgS, SecY, and MurA in Staphylococcus sciuri with TCM inhibitors through a subtractive genomics strategy.

Funct Integr Genomics

July 2023

Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS-PCMD), University of Karachi, Karachi, 75270, Pakistan.

Article Synopsis
  • * Research was conducted to examine the druggable genome of S. sciuri, identifying three promising gene targets (ArgS, SecY, MurA) linked to antibiotic resistance, and created 3D protein models of these targets.
  • * A screening of over 36,000 Traditional Chinese Medicine compounds was performed, with molecular docking revealing how well these compounds fit into the protein targets, while simulations showed how these compounds can influence the structure and stability of the protein-l

Article Synopsis
  • Typhoid fever is spread through contaminated food and water, predominantly in developing countries with poor hygiene, prompting research for new treatment options.
  • A subtractive genomics approach was used to analyze the genomes of Salmonella Typhi, identifying essential genes and potential drug targets, leading to the creation of 3D protein models for further testing.
  • Four promising inhibitors were selected from a large drug-like library after assessing their binding properties, with the goal of developing new therapies alongside current treatments for typhoid Salmonellosis.

Burkholderia cepacia complex (BCC) is a group of gram-negative bacteria composed of at least 20 different species that cause diseases in plants, animals as well as humans (cystic fibrosis and airway infection). Here, we analyzed the proteomic data of 47 BCC strains by classifying them in three groups. Phylogenetic analyses were performed followed by individual core region identification for each group.

The COVID-19 pandemics and the relevance of biosafety facilities for metagenomics surveillance, structured disease prevention and control.

Biosaf Health

National Institute of Science and Technology for Innovation on Diseases of Neglected Populations (INCT-IDPN), Centre for Technological Development in Health (CDTS), Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Avenida Brasil 4365, Manguinhos, Rio de Janeiro, RJ 21045-900, Brazil.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic represents an enormous challenge to all countries, regardless of their development status. The manipulation of its etiologic agent SARS-CoV-2 requires a biosafety containment level 3 laboratories (BSL-3) to understand virus biology and in vivo pathogenesis as well as the translation of new knowledge into the preclinical development of vaccines and antivirals. As such, BSL-3 facilities should be considered an integral part of any public health response to emerging infectious disease prevention, control and management.

Introduction: There is an urgent need for health authorities across Europe to fully realize potential savings from increased use of generics to sustain their healthcare systems. A variety of strategies were used across Europe following the availability of generic losartan, the first angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) to be approved and marketed, to enhance its prescribing vs. single-sourced drugs in the class.
