Introduction: There are 200 million girls and women alive worldwide that have undergone the practice of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and 4 million girls are at risk of undergoing the practice each year. FGM/C provides no known health benefits, while puts a plethora of medical, psychological, and sexual health risks into perspective. One of the countries where the prevalence of FGM/C is the highest in the World, even though local authorities legally banned the practice in 2008, is Egypt.

Changes in context, typology and programme outcomes between early and recent periods of sex work among young female sex workers in Mombasa, Kenya: A cross-sectional study.

Introduction: The sex work context and typology change continuously and influence HIV related risk and vulnerability for young female sex workers (YFSW). We sought to describe changes in the context and typology of sex work between the first (early) and past month (recent) of sex work among YFSW to inform HIV prevention programming for sex workers.

Methods: We used data from a cross-sectional survey (April-November 2015), administered using physical location-based sampling to 408 cis-women, aged 14-24 years, who self-identified as sex workers, in Mombasa, Kenya.

Introduction: Administration of dexamethasone (DEX) has been used experimentally to suppress androgenization of external genitalia in 46,XX fetuses with congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Despite this, the prenatal biological mechanism-of-action of DEX on fetal development is not known. This study aimed to examine direct effects of DEX on human fetal adrenal (HFA) steroidogenic activity including possible effects on the subsequent response to ACTH-stimulation.

Comprehensive sexuality education for out-of-school young people living with HIV and young people with disabilities: findings from a formative research study in Malawi.

This formative study was undertaken between June 2020 and April 2021 to provide evidence to inform the design and delivery of comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in Malawi for young people living with HIV (YPLHIV) and young people with disabilities (YPWD). The study included a desk review of the situation of these two groups and a mapping of CSE programmes and delivery approaches in Malawi. The study findings show that YPWD and YPLHIV in Malawi are marginalised groups, face stigma and discrimination, and are more vulnerable to abuse, warranting CSE that addresses their needs.

Assessing trends and reasons for unsuccessful implant discontinuation in Burkina Faso and Kenya between 2016 and 2020: a cross-sectional study.

Objectives: Contraceptive implant use has grown considerably in the last decade, particularly among women in Burkina Faso and Kenya, where implant use is among the highest globally. We aim to quantify the proportion of current implant users who have unsuccessfully attempted implant removal in Burkina Faso and Kenya and document reasons for and location of unsuccessful removal.

Methods: We use nationally representative data collected between 2016 and 2020 from a cross-section of women of reproductive age in Burkina Faso and Kenya to estimate the prevalence of implant use, proportion of current implant users who unsuccessfully attempted removal and proportion of all removal attempts that have been unsuccessful.

Landscape of mast cell populations across organs in mice and humans.

Mast cells (MCs) are tissue-resident immune cells that exhibit homeostatic and neuron-associated functions. Here, we combined whole-tissue imaging and single-cell RNA sequencing datasets to generate a pan-organ analysis of MCs in mice and humans at steady state. In mice, we identify two mutually exclusive MC populations, MrgprB2+ connective tissue-type MCs and MrgprB2neg mucosal-type MCs, with specific transcriptomic core signatures.

Objective: Functioning gonadotroph adenomas (FGAs) are rare pituitary tumours stimulating ovarian function with potential life-threatening consequences in women. However, a lack of aggregated clinical experience of FGAs impairs management in affected women. The aim of this study is to present the clinical course of FGA-induced ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) cases as identified by some of the largest UK pituitary endocrine tertiary centres with a view to increasing awareness and improving diagnosis and management of women with FGA.

In the survivorship setting, adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors frequently demonstrate little knowledge of infertility risk, are unclear regarding their fertility status, and may under- or overestimate their treatment-related risk for infertility. In female AYA survivors, ovarian function usually parallels fertility, and can be assessed with serum hormone levels and ultrasonography. Posttreatment fertility preservation may be appropriate for survivors at risk for primary ovarian insufficiency.

Standardised 25-Step Traditional Thai Massage (TTM) Protocol for Treating Office Syndrome (OS).

Traditional Thai massage (TTM) is a unique form of whole body massage practiced to promote health and well-being in Thailand since ancient times. The goal of the present study was to create a standardised TTM protocol to treat office syndrome (OS) diagnosed based on the identification of the palpation of at least one so-called myofascial trigger point (MTrP) in the upper trapezius muscle. The new 90 min TTM protocol, which was developed following appropriate review of the literature and in consultation with relevant experts, has 25 distinct steps (20 pressing steps, 2 artery occlusion steps, and 3 stretching steps).

Few victims of sexual assault (SA) report to the police. Research on the role of support persons in victims' reporting is sparse. We address this gap by examining the association of victim, assailant, victimization incident, and support characteristics with reporting rates among victims attending sexual assault care centers (SACCs).

Comparison of the Clinical Accuracy of Xpert HPV Assay on Vaginal Self-Samples and Cervical Clinician-Taken Samples within the VALHUDES Framework.

The accuracy of high-risk human papillomavirus testing with the Xpert HPV assay on vaginal self-samples was compared with clinician-taken samples within the VALidation of HUman papillomavirus assays and collection DEvices for Self-samples and urine samples (VALHUDES) framework. Five-hundred and twenty-three women were recruited in five Belgian colposcopy clinics, of whom 483 (median age, 40 years; interquartile range, 31 to 49 years) were included in the main analysis (226 collected with Evalyn Brush and 257 collected with Qvintip). Cervical samples were collected with Cervex-Brush.

Here we report on thulium-based cubic-phase downshifting nanoparticles (α-TmNPs) with 1,632 nm fluorescence amplification.

Clinical profiling of specific diagnostic subgroups of women with chronic pelvic pain.

Introduction: Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a common condition affecting up to 26.6% of women, with many suffering for several years before diagnosis and/or treatment. Its clinical presentation is varied and there are frequently comorbid conditions both within and outside the pelvis.
