Objective: This study aimed to assess and compare the internal fit of custom-made posts and cores fabricated using digital impressions (DI) and conventional vinyl polysiloxane (VPS) impressions in restorative dentistry.

Materials And Methods: A typodont tooth model, simulating the anatomy of the root canal of a central incisor, was utilized for the study. Two groups were formed, Group A and Group B, and each group provided a total of 18 impressions of two types: DIs and VPS impressions.

Background: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) often affects the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) caused by an abnormal immune system that includes overactive inflammatory processes. Salivary biomarkers may be a powerful tool that can help establishing diagnosis, prognosis and monitor disease progress.

Objective: The objective was to investigate biomarkers in parotid saliva and blood plasma in relation to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in patients with JIA and healthy individuals.

Background: Stress in patients with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) has been found to be associated with orofacial pain, psychological distress, jaw dysfunction and loss of daily activities in a cross-sectional study. The aim of this study was to investigate the relations between stress and change of stress over time versus changes in orofacial pain, psychosocial factors and jaw function over a two-year period in patients with JIA.

Methods: This is a two-year prospective follow-up study involving 40 JIA patients.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE AND SCORING OF ORAL HEALTH IMPACT PROFILE VERSIONS.

J Evid Based Dent Pract

March 2022

Department of Orofacial Pain and Jaw Function, Faculty of Odontology, Malmö University, Sweden; Scandinavian Center for Orofacial Neurosciences; Centre for Oral Rehabilitation, Folktandvården Östergötland, Linköping, Sweden.

Background: OHIP's original seven-domain structure does not fit empirical data, but a psychometrically sound and clinically more plausible structure with the four OHRQoL dimensions Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact has emerged. Consequently, use and scoring of available OHIP versions need to be revisited.

Aim: We assessed how well the overall construct OHRQoL and its four dimensions were measured with several OHIP versions (20, 19, 14, and 5 items) to derive recommendations which instruments should be used and how to score them.

Objective: The aim was to analyze how malocclusion relates to perception of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQOL), oral function and orofacial aesthetics among a group of adolescents in Sweden.

Material And Methods: Thirty patients with a need for orthodontic treatment (IOTN-DHC grade 4 and 5) and 30 patients with normal occlusion (IOTN-DHC grade 1), aged 13-17 years, were included in the study. A questionnaire containing three parts was used; The Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-S14), Jaw Functional Limitational scale (JFLS-20) and Orofacial Aesthetic scale (OES).

Mapping Oral Disease Impact with a Common Metric (MOM)-Project summary and recommendations.

J Oral Rehabil

March 2021

Department of Orofacial Pain and Disfunction, Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact-the dimensions of oral health-related quality of life-capture dental patients' oral health problems worldwide and regardless of whether the patient currently suffers from oral diseases or intends to prevent them in the future. Using scores for these dimensions, the project Mapping Oral Disease Impact with a Common Metric (MOM) aims to provide four-dimensional oral health impact information across oral diseases and settings. In this article, project authors summarize MOM's findings and provide recommendations about how to improve standardized oral health impact assessment.

Background: It has been suggested that botulinum toxin A (BONT-A) is a safe and effective treatment in relieving pain in patients with persistent idiopathic dentoalveolar pain (PIDP).

Objectives: This study aimed to systematically evaluate all the available studies investigating the pain-relieving effects of BONT-A in patients with PIDP.

Methods: A systematic search with specific search terms was made in PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus.

The impact of oro-facial appearance on oral health-related quality of life: A systematic review.

J Oral Rehabil

March 2021

Department of Orofacial Pain and Jaw Function, Faculty of Odontology, Malmö University, Malmö, Sweden.

Esthetics in the oro-facial region are important for perceived oral health and a common reason for treatment of discoloured, missing or crowded teeth. As one of the fundamental bricks of a patient's oral health, changes in the domain of oro-facial esthetics resides within the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of an individual. Four main dimensions, oral function, oro-facial pain, oro-facial appearance and psychosocial impact, are suggested to cover the concept of OHRQoL.

There is a strong association between periodontal disease and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disorders. A key event in the development of atherosclerosis is accumulation of modified lipoproteins within the arterial wall. We hypothesise that patients with periodontitis have an altered lipoprotein profile towards an atherogenic form.

Myofascial temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are the most common cause of chronic pain in the orofacial region. Microdialysis has been used to study metabolic changes in the human masseter muscle. The insertion of the microdialysis probe causes acute tissue trauma that could affect the metabolic milieu and thereby influence the results when comparing healthy subjects to those with TMD.

Objectives: For jaw functional limitations measured by the Jaw Functional Limitation Scale (JFLS), (a) determining prevalence in the Swedish general adult population, (b) investigating the influence of demographic factors and self-reported dental status and (c) deriving normative values.

Methods: A random sample of the general adult population in Sweden was approached (response rate: 46%, N = 1,372). Prevalence was determined for the JFLS summary score and individual items.

Objective: Repetitive jaw-muscle activity characterized by clenching or grinding of the teeth and/or by bracing or thrusting of the mandible, ie, bruxism, is traditionally linked to pain and unpleasantness in the active muscles. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of standardized craniofacial muscle contractions on self-reported symptoms.

Methods: Sixteen healthy volunteers performed six 5-minute bouts of 20% maximal voluntary contraction task of the jaw-closing (Jaw), the orbicularis-oris (O-oris), and the orbicularis-oculi (O-oculi) muscles.

Hepatocyte growth factor in patients with coronary artery disease and its relation to periodontal condition.

Results Immunol

December 2013

PEAS Institute, Linköping, Sweden ; Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, University Hospital, Linköping, Sweden.

Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is an angiogenic, cardioprotective factor important for tissue and vascular repair. High levels of HGF are associated with chronic inflammatory diseases, such as coronary artery disease (CAD) and periodontitis, and are suggested as a marker of the ongoing atherosclerotic event in patients with CAD. Periodontal disease is more prevalent among patients with CAD than among healthy people.
